Here's a Super Bowl commercial that most of us probably missed, even those of you who stayed on the couch for all four quarters and didn't even get up during halftime.

It's a fantastic car-chase commercial that features a first-generation Cadillac CTS-V and a pair of iconic Panther-platform Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. The ad is promoting high-speed Exo service for Canadian cable provider Shaw, which explains the couch potatoes and flatscreens riding atop each car.

Check it out after the jump, and get another chuckle now that the newness of the U.S.-market spots has worn off.
Continue reading Canada's Shaw creates a Super Bowl commercial, Canadian-style

Canada's Shaw creates a Super Bowl commercial, Canadian-style originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 06 Feb 2012 18:26:00 EST.
One rear-drive coupe with over 500 horsepower would be enough for most automakers. But not General Motors. The biggest of the Detroit automakers just couldn't get by with what some rivals would put on a showroom turntable with more flood-lights than an ATF raid. That's why it makes the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and ZR1, the Camaro ZL1 and the Cadillac CTS-V. (And that's before we get into overseas products like the Holden Commodore GTS/Vauxhall VXR8.)

The question is, which one is best for burnouts? To bring us one step closer to the answer we all crave, our compatriots over at Inside Line took two such 500+hp GM super-coupes - the Z06 Centennial Edition and the CTS-V Coupe - down to the Streets of Willow for the fifth installment of their Burnout Super Test.

So, which of the General's eight-cylinder muscle machines laid down the longest strip of rubber? We won't spoil it for you, so follow the jump to watch the video clip and the link for the full article.
Continue reading Chevy Corvette Z06 Centennial goes head-to-head with Cadillac CTS-V Coupe in Burnout Super Test

Chevy Corvette Z06 Centennial goes head-to-head with Cadillac CTS-V Coupe in Burnout Super Test originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 25 Jan 2012 15:00:00 EST.
Cadillac has just spilled the beans on how it plans to keep its MVP fresh for the 2012 model year. The recipe for the 2012 CTS lineup hinges on a new Touring package (from $2,065) that adds many of the features of the high-performance CTS-V range without adding any actual power.

Offered on all three bodystyles, the CTS Touring pack includes such niceties as a buttoned-up suspension (presumably not the actual magnetic ride control setup at the CTS-V given the price), faux suede inserts on the seats and steering wheel, Sapele wood trim and metal pedal pads. The extensive package also includes exterior touches like HID headlamps, dual exhaust, a darker grille finish, different wheel packages and a decklid spoiler cribbed from the V.

There are some equipment differences with the Touring Package depending on whether you stick with the base 3.0-liter V6 or opt for the 3.6-liter. The 3.0-liter package costs less at $2,065, but the 3.6-liter Touring group ($2,810) also includes grippy Recaro seats and larger 19-inch wheels shod in either summer or all-season tires. While we'd much rather have the 556-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 of the real-deal CTS-V, either package seems like a screaming deal for all of the extra equipment.

For 2012, General Motors has also updated the entire CTS range with Bluetooth as standard fit and added blind spot assist and rain-sensing wipers to the options list. New paint colors include Opulent Blue Metallic, Black Diamond Tri-Coat and Mocha Steel Metallic. Pricing starts at $36,790 for the sedan, $39,590 for the rakish coupe and $39,890 for the Sport Wagon.
Continue reading 2012 Cadillac CTS gets new V-Series-like Touring option

2012 Cadillac CTS gets new V-Series-like Touring option originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 22 Dec 2011 15:59:00 EST.
Each year, the scribes at Car and Driver go through every new vehicle on sale and pick the ten best cars available here in the United States. And while some major automotive awards are only shelled out to vehicles that are all-new or significantly updated for a certain model year, C/D's approach is to look at the full scope of cars currently on sale. After all, there are some cars that are simply perennial favorites, even if they haven't changed year over year.

For 2012, the Chevrolet Volt and Hyundai Sonata have fallen off the list to make room for the Audi A6/A7 and Ford Focus. The other eight vehicles that round out the 10Best list have carried over from the 2011 winners, but we can't say we're surprised. These ten cars indeed represent some of the best vehicles on sale today.

The 2012 Car and Driver 10Best winners are:

John Hennessey recently returned to the Texas Mile with his 700-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon for another shot at high-speed glory. The long-roof rocket managed to clip off a top speed of 189.7 miles per hour in the standing mile, which beat out last year's figure by a safe margin.

That speed is certainly a feather worth sticking in the Hammer Wagon's cap, but it may not be the most impressive part of this story. Hennessey didn't trailer the CTS-V Sport Wagon to the track. Instead, the builder drove the car to the event, made his full-speed run, topped off the tank with pump gas and headed 175 miles home.

Could this be the perfect vehicle? We certainly hold a special place in our hearts for the stock CTS-V Sportwagon, and Hennessey's efforts with the platform have made the vehicle no less desirable. Hit the jump to check out a video of the Texas Mile run for yourself.
Continue reading Hennessey Cadillac CTS-V Wagon breaks own Texas mile speed

Hennessey Cadillac CTS-V Wagon breaks own Texas mile speed originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 25 Oct 2011 19:00:00 EST.
Yes, the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V is fast. So fast it makes our heads spin just thinking about it. So fast that lesser cars go home and cry to their mommies. So fast it's gone plaid. Better still, it can be purchased in sedan, coupe and, our particular favorite, wagon bodystyle.

But what happens when you take the CTS-V Wagon-shaped dial and turn it up to 11? To find out, current Motor Trend scribe and Autoblog alumn Jonny Lieberman turned to the tuners at D3, who served up a healthy dose of its so-called Battlewagon.

Fitted with a host of goodies like a new pulley driving the supercharger, a larger intercooler and a reflashed computer, the D3-tuned CTS-V makes 675 horsepower (or more...) and is therefore expected to be more than a hair bit quicker than its stock counterpart. But just how much faster is it?

Last year, we sampled Hennessey's 700 horsepower version of the Cadillac CTS-V, and quite frankly, it frightened us. As Jonny Lieberman said at the time, "we simply weren't prepared for the fury of the V700."

Of course, adding a little under 150 horsepower to the CTS-V is just getting started for Hennessey. The Texas tuner has just released a preview of its upcoming Twin-Turbo CTS-V Coupe model packing no less than 1,000 horsepower. The heart of the car is a 427 cubic-inch LS V8 featuring upgraded internals like forged low compression pistons, forged steel connecting rods, forged steel crank and ARP main studs and head bolts. A set of dual ball bearing turbochargers packs atmosphere into the combustion chambers, assisted by high-flow cylinder heads. Additional upgrades include items like 15-inch carbon ceramic brakes, a fortified transmission, lowered suspension and Hennessey's CarbonAero widebody kit. As a bonus, buyers will also receive a one day track experience with retired General Motors test driver supreme John Heinricy.

Hennessey plans to build just 12 of the V1000 Twin-Turbos, and pricing has not yet been released. You can view the full list of V1000 features and upgrades after the jump.
Continue reading Hennessey previews limited edition 1,000-horsepower CTS-V Coupe

Hennessey previews limited edition 1,000-horsepower CTS-V Coupe originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 13:32:00 EST.
Last month, following an IM conversation between myself and Autoblog's Test Fleet Manager, Steve Ewing, I tweeted this. I love the Supersonic Blue paint GM offers on the Chevrolet Corvette, you see, and I think it'd look killer on the Cadillac CTS-V. I hadn't given it much thought until yesterday, when I attended a Cadillac event at the Monticello Motor Club. Parked outside the clubhouse next to the pit road, was the car you see above, a new CTS-V sedan finished in Supersonic Blue with satin graphite wheels. Inside, the Recaro seats and door trim matched the exterior. It's wicked.

I immediately asked Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell if this was a new paint color for the 2012 model. It's not. Not yet, at least. Caddy prepped the car and brought it out to Monticello to gauge reaction to the color before a final decision is made. If it winds up happening, it'll likely be a new special edition, in the vein of this year's Black Diamond package. Personally, I think this is a no-brainer, and said as much to the Caddy reps on hand. Maybe you think differently, though, so here's your shot to weigh in.

Use the poll below to tell Cadillac if you think they should have the CTS-V go Supersonic. Before you vote, just imagine the Sport Wagon done up like this. Got that mental image? Good. Now go vote.
Episode #236 of the Autoblog Podcast is here, one day later than usual. Chris, Zach and Dan start with a chat about the hillclimb records that were smashed at Pikes Peak and Mt. Washington and then we move on to consider whether Lamborghini should create an SUV or sedan. Nissan and its exceptionally ambitious Power88 plan is our next topic before we discuss the intense worldwide demand for the Jeep Wrangler and lament the reported shelving of a pickup derivative. Your questions and comments finish us up, and it's a tidy hour and twenty-three minutes this week. Live podcasts will be back soon at our UStream channel, but we went with the legacy format this week because of schedules. We've embedded our Q&A module after the jump for you to scroll through and follow along, too. Thanks for listening!

Paul One and Paul Two each took a shot at marrying Cadillac's edgy and modern Art and Science design philosophy for a recent series of episodes from the long-running American Chopper television program. While it's generally accepted by motorcycle fans that the show is really all about the drama and hysterics of the extremely dysfunctional Teutul family, the automotive connection in this build piqued our auto-obsessive interest enough to check in with the custom bike creating family.

In case you're behind in your American Chopper history, the Senior and Junior Pauls are no longer working together at Orange County Choppers. Paul Jr. is running his own shop and design firm (the imaginatively named Paul Junior Designs) and has been pitted against his own father in the last few seasons of the hit reality television show. So, as you might have figured, the father and son each designed and built (with the help of their respective crews, of course) their own takes on the Cadillac CTS-V.

Both builders went long and low with an emphasis on looking fast, and both painted their machines metallic black with plenty of chrome accents. But the details of each bike are unique, with the elder Teutul pushing the power angle with a monstrous V-twin engine and an extra shot of ponies courtesy of a hidden shot of nitrous. Paul the Younger differed in his approach by injecting as much of the actual CTS-V into his two-wheeled machine as possible.

Push come to shove, we think Junior's design more accurately depicts the Cadillac design theme. In any case, neither motorcycle would be all that useful as actual transportation devices, and neither is likely to be ridden more than a few feet in any direction for loading, unloading and general "See, it does work!" showing off.

In any real competition, there must be a winner and a loser. Discovery Channel, Cadillac and the two Teutuls have teamed up to pit these two motorcycles up against one another to raise money for the Cure Duchenne charity. Judging from the total number of fans, views and current top bid, it appears Junior's design holds the edge in the eyes of the public. Bidding on the two bikes will continue until July 31, 2011 at 5:59 PM EST.

Feel free to browse both bikes in our photo galleries, then pick your own winner in our included poll.

And now for something completely awesome: the 2010 Hennessey V650 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon doing terrible things to expensive tires. John Hennessey's love affair with all things Cadillac is no secret; his wife's daily driver is an HPE700-equipped CTS-V sedan. We've also seen Mr. Hennessey's insatiable lust for showing off his cars embarrassing more expensive metal.

This time, though, the car in question doesn't need to dust a Porsche off the line to prove its mettle. No, the V650 does a fine job of that on its own. With exhaust cutouts, an increase in boost from 9.5 to 13 psi and a quarter mile of open track ahead of it, the car burns its tires through first and second gears without skipping a beat.
The list of vehicles with an available manual transmission may become a bit smaller for 2012, as Inside Line is reporting that certain 2012 Cadillac CTS models will lose the ability to specify a third pedal. IL cites sources from within General Motors who say that models equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 will only be offered with an automatic transmission next year. The high-performance CTS-V sedan, coupe and wagon will still be offered with a manual transmission, as will CTS variants equipped with the torque-deprived 3.0-liter V6.

The General wouldn't specify why the 3.6-liter-equipped models would lose the manual option, but we're thinking that a low take rate at the dealership had something to do with the decision. And while we never like to see that owners lose out on the manual-equipped version of any vehicle, at least the CTS-V will retain row-your-own ability.

Cadillac is pretty excited to head back to the race track. It's no simple task, however, to go from luxury sports coupe to competitive racer in a short amount of time. Thus, the automaker is spending plenty of time making sure its got the CTS-V Coupe race car completely dialed in before heading off to compete in various SCCA events.

Cadillac is documenting this return to racing with a series of YouTube episodes titled Refueled: Return of the CTS-V. We have the trailer and episodes one through three waiting for you after the jump, showing the race cars' origins, the build process and the Cadillac race team testing out on the track.
Hennessey Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon versus 2011 Nissan GT-R - Click above to watch video after the jump

Hennessey is once again bringing its super station wagon out to the drag strip. The Texas tuner has taken Cadillac's 556-horsepower fast family-hauler and tweaked it so that the 6.2-liter V8 now produces 650 hp. We previously showed you how it fared against an (outdated) Porsche 911 Turbo, and now Hennessey has brought the CTS-V Sport Wagon back to the track, and this time, the opponent in the other line is driving a Nissan GT-R.

A 2011 Nissan GT-R to be more precise. The model that produces 485 horsepower and runs down Hennessey's track in 11.8-seconds. That's a hair slower than the 11.7-second run ripped off by the Sport Wagon - an amazing time for the 4,398-pound American muscle machine.

However, the 2012 Nissan GT-R pumps out 530 horsepower, runs from 0-60 miles per hour in less than three seconds and will cover a quarter-mile in about 11.6 seconds. Now, you can take that to mean Hennessey should've run against the newer GT-R... or that they've built one hell of a station wagon. Click past the jump to watch the two cars run down the strip.

In case anyone was accusing supercharged, the 556-horsepower LSA V8 that powers the Cadillac CTS-V of lacking versatility, refer to this video and stand corrected. Custom boatbuilder Seven Marine has taken the enormously powerful engines and adapted them to a marine outboard application.

According to Seven Marine, its 557 is the most powerful outboard ever made. The grunt is channeled to the water through an electronically-controlled ZF transmission. The Seven Marine 557 is also the first outboard ever to be joystick-controlled.

According to Seven, it can be hung as a single-engine setup on a 25 to 27-foot boat, or in a double, triple or quad setup on boats ranging up to 55 feet. Seven Marine claims the engine should be good for a 10-20 percent efficiency and performance increase over standard onboard engines because it requires fewer gear sets to operate, which means less drag. You can check the CTS-V-powered marine setup in the video after the jump.
There's really not a whole lot more we can tell you about the pair of Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Race Cars that will be forming a two-pronged attack of the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT starting on March 25 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

That said, we can still all stare at all the pretty pictures that General Motors has been so kind as to release upon the masses. Check out our high-res image gallery below, where you'll see the two cars in all their specially prepared, tire-squealing and exhaust-popping glory. Also note that this is the first time the cars have been displayed wearing the official livery of Andy Pilgrim (the No. 8 car) and teammate Johnny O'Connell (the No. 3 car) and they are lapping Sebring for a second session.

*Update: Video of the second testing session can be found after the break.

General Motors is showing off its sexy new Cadillac Black Diamond Edition CTS-V Sport Wagon at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, complete with its exotic SpectraFlair paint and snazzy yellow brake calipers. As you may recall, GM partnered up with JDSU for the special hue, and each Black Diamond Edition Caddy gets a three-coat paint process. Along with the shiny stuff, Cadillac bolted on a set of Satin Graphite 19-inch wheels that help make those wild calipers pop in a big way, and the interior makes use of plenty of micro suede and special wood accents.

The combined effect is one very sinister long-roof.

Prices for the gussied-up CTS-V coupe start at $70,490, which is a $4,850 premium over the run-of-the-mill V. Worth it? We'll just say that this machine is one of the few at this year's Chicago Auto Show that has earned a presence on our 'most wanted' list.
If you've spent any time on German roads, one thing you'll notice - right after the speed limit signs with a slash mark through them - is that station wagons are popular.

Nearly every manufacturer builds multiple models ranging from sub-compacts to near full-size behemoths. Mercedes-Benz E-Class and C-Class wagons are everywhere. Ditto for BMW 3 and 5 Series Tourings. Volkswagen, Fiat, Citroen, Seat, Skoda and Peugeot all sell lots of wagons. Perhaps it's a legacy of the Lamborghini Espada or the undeniable fact that the current M-B E63 AMG wagon is seriously cool, Europeans like wagons.

Americans, on the other hand, don't. Our country's collective notion of station wagons is stuck in Clark W. Griswold-land. Too bad. Most Americans have no idea what they're missing.

General Motors has just unveiled its new take on the mighty Cadillac CTS-V called the Black Diamond Edition. Available on all iterations of the supercharged beast (sedan, coupe and wagon), the appearance package dips the company's muscle-bound luxury fleet in new, proprietary SpectraFlair paint. The final product is achieved through a three-coat process that includes flakes of aluminum encapsulated in magnesium fluoride. The result is a paint that's as gorgeous as it will undoubtedly prove impossible to repair.

This is not a car that's to be left anywhere near a shopping cart.

The paint is joined by a set of Satin Graphite 19-inch wheels and yellow Brembo brake calipers outside. Slide yourself indoors and meet an interior that boasts microfiber suede Recaro seats and Midnight Sapele wood accents littered throughout the cabin. GM says that the whole package is meant to invoke images of a well-tailored tuxedo.

Prices start at $69,190 for manual transmission models and $70,490 for the automatic, including destination. Those figures mark a $4,850 bump over the standard CTS-V, and buyers can expect some fluctuation depending on whether they opt for the sedan, coupe or wagon body style. Follow the jump for the official press release and to see GM folks explain the Black Diamond Edition in a video.
