<br />As devout gearheads you're undoubtedly aware today marks Audi's 100th anniversary, and in celebration of its centennial, one of Germany's most historic marques is kicking off the festivities with a star-studded event at the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt, Germany.<br /><br />The unveiling of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/officially-official-2010-audi-a5-sportback-revealed-not-coming/">A5 Sportback</a> was the first in a long line of events to take place over the coming days, but Audi also wanted to provide admirers a photographic glimpse into its past. And we're all too happy to oblige while snagging a few choice wallpapers in the process.<br /><br />Make the jump for Audi's press release on the celebration, along with a video introduction by Chairman Rupert Stadler. And be sure to check out the four massive galleries we've put together, broken down into "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-classic/">Classic</a>," "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/">Motorsport</a>," "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-concept/">Concept</a>" and, of course, "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-quattro/">Quattro</a>."<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/low/">Audi Centennial - Motorsport</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/01-audi-100-motorsport_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/02-audi-100-motorsport_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/03-audi-100-motorsport_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/04-audi-100-motorsport_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-centennial-motorsport/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/05-audi-100-motorsport_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/16/audi-observes-centennial-with-massive-historical-gallery-and-vid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Audi observes centennial with massive historical gallery and video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/16/audi-observes-centennial-with-massive-historical-gallery-and-vid/">Audi observes centennial with massive historical gallery and video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 19:58:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Audi TT sculpture - click above for high-res gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />It's not at all unusual for successive generations of a car line to grow larger the preceding edition. However, in an era where down-sizing is becoming more common, this is a bit absurd. Actually, the car shown here is a 33.5 foot long, 10-ton sculpture of the Audi TT coupe. <br /><br />The giant TT has actually been around for several years now, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/07/the-story-behind-the-automobile/">debuting in Berlin in 2006</a> and having been shown in Beijing, Munich, and Hong Kong since then. The outsized work of art has now been brought to Audi's Ingolstadt headquarters as part of the centenial celebrations of the automaker. The sculpture has been placed in the center of a roundabout in Ingolstadt where it should pose absolutely no issues with driver distraction... right, guys? Check out the high-res gallery of images below, as well as the press release and a video of the sculpture being trucked in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/audi-gifts-home-town-with-10-ton-tt-upon-its-centennial-w-video/">after the jump</a>.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/">Audi TT Sculpture</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/0713_audi_tt_skulptur_einweihung_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090500_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090501_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090502_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-sculpture/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/au090504_medium-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Audi]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/audi-gifts-home-town-with-10-ton-tt-upon-its-centennial-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Audi gifts hometown with 10-ton TT as part of centennial celebration [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/audi-gifts-home-town-with-10-ton-tt-upon-its-centennial-w-video/">Audi gifts hometown with 10-ton TT as part of centennial celebration [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 11:30:00 EST. <br />The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place this weekend, and every year the Earl of March, who manages the 12,000-acre Goodwood estate that hosts the event, commissions a giant art piece honoring that year's featured marque. Audi is the featured marque this year, which is timely since the Ingolstadt-based automaker is also celebrating its centennial. <br /><br />This year's sculpture that was commissioned for Audi is a big swoosh of tire tracks with a 1937 Auto Union streamliner and new Audi R8 V10 suspended at either end. Standing 135-feet tall and weighing 40 tonnes, as they say in Britain, the piece is made entirely of steel to support itself without braces or cables. <a href="http://www.judah.co.uk/">Gerry Judah</a> is the designer, as he has been for Goodwood's featured art installations since 1997 when he first designed one for Ferrari. This is also the second time he's produced a piece for Audi, the first one being back in 1999. <br /><br />It goes without saying that we all want to stick this in the flower bed in our front yard, but unfortunately you'll only be able to see it if you're in West Sussex this weekend to enjoy the Goodwood Festival of Speed. <br /><br />Check out more pics of this year's Audi sculpture, as well as art pieces from prior years, in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/">Goodwood Festival of Speed Art Sculptures</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Audi, Photos courtesy of <a href="http://www.judah.co.uk/">Gerry Judah</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/goodwood-festival-of-speed-featuring-135-foot-monument-to-audi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Goodwood Festival of Speed featuring 135-foot monument to Audi</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/goodwood-festival-of-speed-featuring-135-foot-monument-to-audi/">Goodwood Festival of Speed featuring 135-foot monument to Audi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 16:25:00 EST.
