<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-audi-a6-allroad-quattro-quick-spin/"><img alt="2012 Audi A6 Allroad Quattro" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2012/04/2012-audi-a6-allroad-quattro-fd.jpg" style="margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; width: 628px; height: 417px;" /></a><br />
<br />
As an American living in Italy, there are often entire month-long stretches where I drive nothing but European cars that will sadly never come out to play on American soil. Such is the case for the abundantly adored Audi A6 Allroad Quattro seen here. I was initially of the assumption that since the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/14/2012-audi-a4-allroad-quattro-first-drive-review/">A4 Allroad</a> had already been confirmed for the U.S. that the A6 Allroad would be coming as well, but I am dismayed to report otherwise.<br />
<br />
Such a pity, too. The business case for giving North America the whole range of Audi models that Germany offers apparently just doesn't pan out financially - and for some of us, it's the old predictable story of unrequited love across the chilly Atlantic.<br />
<br />
Team Ingolstadt brought me into their home in Neckarsulm just north of hilly Stuttgart for this drive through the area's precisely cultivated fields of hops. The aroma of beer is everywhere here, which may go some way toward explaining just why the new A6 Allroad felt so good under and around me as we freight-trained along the Swabian two-lanes.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/11/2012-audi-a6-allroad-quattro-quick-spin-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 Audi A6 Allroad Quattro biturbo diesel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/11/2012-audi-a6-allroad-quattro-quick-spin-review/">2012 Audi A6 Allroad Quattro biturbo diesel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 11:57:00 EST. <br />
The return of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/audi+allroad/">Audi Allroad</a> is nigh... possibly! Rumors have been swirling like camouflage that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/15/geneva-preview-2010-audi-a4-allroad-quattro-ready-for-its-close/">Audi is working on a new A4 Allroad</a>. Our spy photographers spotted a camo-covered Allroad undergoing hot weather testing in Southern Europe, but the up-rated wagon underneath these swirls is an A6 Avant.<br />
<br />
Is <a href="http://autoblog.com/audi">Audi</a> getting ready to bring out a variety of Allroads? It's possible, and we'd happily welcome both an A4 and A6 Allroad with open arms. Of course, we know how this story plays out here in the States. While we may see one of the two Allroad variants, it's unlikely that both will wind up in U.S. dealer showrooms. Time will tell.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/20/2013-audi-a6-based-allroad-spotted-will-we-get-this-one/">2013 Audi A6-based Allroad spotted... will we get this one?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Sep 2011 14:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the Saab 9-3X</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Saab debuted its 9-3X at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, and while it's a new market for the Swedish brand (we'll try to forget about the body-on-frame 9-7X, thank you), we suspect that the lifted load-lugger will probably outsell the standard SportCombi by a healthy margin Stateside, given America's appetite for such things.<br /><br />It's quite handsome in person and the inherently less-sharp handling of a sportstilts wagon ought to paper over the 9-3's occasionally soggy dynamics. Said another way, a lack of razor-sharp handling in the 9-3 platform would seem to be more appropriate/acceptable in a softroader than a sporty wagon or sedan.<br /><br />While basically the same as the 2.0-liter Sportcombi, the 9-3X has a 1.4-inch higher stance and standard Cross-Wheel Drive (XWD), a fantastically grippy system that figures to give the new model sufficient softroading abilities to be a worthwhile alternative to the Subaru Outback or Volvo XC70. Other model-specific cues include contrasting lower cladding and flared fenders, unique 17-inch wheels, and a roof rack for safely displaying all of one's lifestyle accessories.<br /><br />Given the effort to extract Saab from General Motors' portfolio and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/20/saab-files-for-bankruptcy-in-swedish-courts-wants-1b/">its uncertain future</a>, there is a very real possibility that the 9-3X will be the last new Griffin-badged product we see in the States - the badly-needed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/21/gm-confirms-launch-of-saab-9-3x-and-9-5-in-2009/">9-5 replacement is slated to debut before the year is out</a>, but we expect it will go to European markets first, and there has been some talk of Saab withdrawing from North America entirely even if it continues to exist. While the 9-3X can't be fairly tasked with saving the company, it's a compelling-looking package that would appear to deserve a shot.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x">Geneva 2009: 2010 Saab 9-3X</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-gen-09-9-3x-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-gen-09-9-3x-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-gen-09-9-3x-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04-gen-09-9-3x-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/05-gen-09-9-3x-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/04/geneva-2009-2010-saab-9-3x-ideal-wagon-for-lingonberry-picking/">Geneva 2009: 2010 Saab 9-3X ideal wagon for lingonberry picking</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 04 Mar 2009 12:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>Click above for a hi-res gallery of the new Audi A4 allroad quattro</small></span><br /></div>
<small><br /></small>While every other automaker was pumping out SUVs by the truckload (so to speak), Audi insisted that its wagons could offer the same benefits as a sport-ute - all wheel drive, rugged looks, cargo capacity - without the drawbacks. Ingolstadt has jumped on the sport-ute bandwagon since then, but hasn't given up the ghost on the wagon/SUV debate. While the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/01/geneva-motor-show-audi-allroad-quattro/">A6-basded allroad quattro</a> had to hold down the fort all by itself until now, at the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, Audi will <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/29/audi-tt-rs-a4-allroad-rumored-to-appear-in-geneva/">give it a kid brother</a> based on the A4.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/01/spy-shots-2009-audi-a4-allroad-confirms-rumors/">Audi A4 allroad quattro</a> is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/10/enter-the-rumormill-audi-a4-allroad-quattro/">essentially an A4 Avant wagon</a>, only beefed up for that go-anywhere look. Ground clearance is jacked up to a more commodious 180mm, while the underbody is reinforced front and rear with steel plates. Contrasting lower body cladding and flared wheel arches contribute to the off-road look, along with a unique grille, restyled rear bumper and roof rails on top of the Avant's sleek roofline. Of course traction is provided by Audi's trademark quattro all-wheel-drive system, putting the power down from the 211 hp 2.0-liter TFSI, 170hp 2.0-liter TDI or 240hp 3.0-liter TDI (gas, diesel and diesel for those unfamiliar with VW Group lexicon) through the six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. All the details can be found in the press release after the jump, with a gallery of high-resolution photos accessible via the thumbnails below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-allroad">2010 Audi A4 allroad quattro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-allroad/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/a4q090001_medium_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-allroad/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/a4q090002_medium_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-allroad/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/a4q090003_medium_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-allroad/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/a4q090004_medium_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-audi-allroad/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/a4q090005_medium_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Audi]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/15/geneva-preview-2010-audi-a4-allroad-quattro-ready-for-its-close/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Geneva Preview: 2010 Audi A4 allroad quattro ready for its closeup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/15/geneva-preview-2010-audi-a4-allroad-quattro-ready-for-its-close/">Geneva Preview: 2010 Audi A4 allroad quattro ready for its closeup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 15 Feb 2009 07:45:00 EST. <br />Until the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FrankfurtMotorShow/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> returns to Germany later this year, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/geneva-motor-show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> is the closest thing to home for Germany's automakers, and Audi's not about to let the opportunity pass it by. So we're expecting the four-ringed circus to roll in from Ingolstadt with several significant premiers.<br /><br />First up, the long-awaited and highly-anticipated <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/29/audi-tt-rs-headed-to-geneva-motor-show/">debut of the Audi TT-RS</a>. The highest level of the stylish little coupe, is expected to pump some 340 horsepower from its 2.5-liter turbo five through Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system and S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Audi is also expected to take the wraps off of the first <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/19/spy-shots-a4-based-audi-allroad/">A4 Allroad</a>, which follows its A6-based big brother by modifying the A4 Avant wagon with extra body cladding and higher road clearance. Lastly, we're expecting to see the final, production version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/02/2010-audi-a5-s5-cabriolet-unveiled-just-in-time-for-winter/">A5/S5 cabrio</a>, replacing the previous A4 cabrio with the sleeker coupe-based variant. Who knows, maybe Audi will even give us a glimpse of its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/new-audi-r15-to-debut-in-march-at-sebring/">new R15 racer</a>, slated to debut around the same time at Sebring. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-rs-spy-shots">Audi TT-RS - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-rs-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/audittrs.rr1.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-rs-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/audittrs.rr2.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-rs-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/audittrs.rr3.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-rs-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/audittrs.rr4.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/audi-tt-rs-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/audittrs.rr5.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots">2009 Audi A4 Allroad - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http:// http://www.topcarblog.ch/727/audi-mit-drei-weltpremieren/">topcarblog.ch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/29/audi-tt-rs-a4-allroad-rumored-to-appear-in-geneva/">Audi TT-RS, A4 Allroad rumored to appear in Geneva</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 14:01:00 EST. Based on the A6 Avant, the Allroad's positioning as a more-than-a-wagon, less-than-an-SUV made it a versatile performer, but middling sales meant that U.S. consumers never got a crack at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/01/geneva-motor-show-audi-allroad-quattro/">second-generation model</a> available overseas since 2006.<br /><br />Judging by this newest prototype and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/01/spy-shots-2009-audi-a4-allroad-confirms-rumors/">a similar one spied back in February</a>, it appears that the current Allroad will get an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/01/spy-shots-2009-audi-a4-allroad-confirms-rumors/">A4 Avant-based</a> kid brother. Spy shots show a such a car testing in the kind of latitude that is home to the A4 Avant's primary competition,<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/13/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-volvo-xc70-w-video/"> Volvo's XC70</a>, not to mention the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/26/spy-shots-saab-9-3x-crossover-thingy-caught/">Saab 9-3X</a> that's right around the corner. With everyone going back to the 'small ball' playbook for a while, maybe Audi has the timing right this time. The only question now is: will it come to the States?<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots">2009 Audi A4 Allroad - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evospyshots/233208/audi_a4_allroad_quattro.html">EVO</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/19/spy-shots-a4-based-audi-allroad/">Spy Shots: 2010 Audi A4 Allroad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 19 Dec 2008 18:59:00 EST. Though merely a rumor early last month, an A4 Allroad is all but a lock now thanks to spy photographers who caught a mule testing in snowy Sweden. Yes, what you're looking at is the new A4 sedan, but that's only because Audi has yet to debut an A4 Avant and is using the sedan body for testing. Clearly visible is a raised ride height, grippy snow tires and thick fender flares that appear to do a good job of grabbing snow that's kicked up. <br /><br />Though Audi traditionally has only ever offered its Allroad lineup in wagon form, we're totally jonesing for a sedan version now after seeing these spy shots. This A4 Allroad mule looks like a sleeper rally car that's ready to jump a drift or plow through a bank of snow at a moment's notice. Perhaps Audi should consider offering an Allroad package for the sedan, as well. We can't imagine it would take much more investment to develop alongside the wagon version. <br /><br />[Photos: Brenda Priddy &amp; Co.]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots">2009 Audi A4 Allroad - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-audi-a4-allroad-spy-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/w_a4allroad_feb08_priddy9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/01/spy-shots-2009-audi-a4-allroad-confirms-rumors/">Spy Shots: 2009 Audi A4 Allroad confirms rumors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 01 Feb 2008 13:54:00 EST. Not enough off-road prowess to threaten the terrain tackling skills of the
new Q7 SUV, mind.&nbsp;Regardless, it&nbsp;does feature aluminum suspension components with an adaptive air suspension
that has five modes, including a manually selected lift mode that gives the Allroad 7.2 inches of ground clearance.
Should you venture into parts unknown, you shant fret about your Allroad's undercarriage, as Audi's including
stainless steel protection both fore and aft.<br /><br />The Allroad Quattro will be powered by a range of petrol and
diesel engines, including the 3.2 FSI V6 (255 bhp/243 ft-lbs), 4.2 FSI V8 (350 bhp/ 325 ft-lbs.), 2.7 TDI V6 (180
bhp/280 ft-lbs) and 3.0 TDI V6 (233 bhp/332 ft-lbs.).
