Although the car was wearing DBRS9 badges, it's actually believed to be the DBS that is expected to take the place of the outgoing Vanquish in the A-M lineup. The car was caught unattended after a high speed run on one of Germany's Autobahnnen. There's still some confusion about how the Aston-Martin range will look once the DBS and DBX join the family, but with productiion of the Vanquish coming to an end and this car going on sale in late fall, we think this Bond-ride makes sense as the Vanquish replacement, with the DBX slotting in above it.

Latest rumors have the DBS 6.0 litre V12 putting out 520-ish hp, routed through a proper six-speed stick. The car is also expected to be about 200 lbs. lighter than the current DB9 on which it is based. That should add up to the DBS being the quickest production Aston ever. Changes to the DB9 body include a carbon-fiber aero kit consisting of a revised nose, rockers and tail with integrated diffuser, carbon ceramic brakes, unique 20-inch wheels, and a suspension that has been lowered by 20mm. Several larger photos are posted on the PistonHeads site. The winning bid was £144,500 (that's $275,648 to us Yanks). Some might say that the money would be better spent on a brand spanky new Vanquish, which "only" sets you back $255,000 by comparison.

It's a compelling argument on the surface, but really, the Bond car's machine guns, grille-mounted heat-seeking missiles, dual shotguns, ejector seat, and handy cloaking/invisibility mode are easily worth the extra 20 grand. Road ragers who direct their animosity toward this car's new owner do so at their peril.

[Source: PistonHeads]
Bond's Vanquish from Die Another Day auctioned off originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 09 Aug 2006 16:01:00 EST.
