<br />
To celebrate its tenth anniversary in the ever-hungry, ever-growing Chinese market, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche/">Porsche</a> is unleashing a special edition version of its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/911+turbo">911 Turbo S</a>. The car comes with the Turbo S' 530-horsepower, twin-turbo flat-six, mated to Porsche's PDK sequential gearbox.<br />
<br />
Rather than go crazy with mechanical mods, Porsche is sticking with an appearance package for the commemorative <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/911">911</a>. Outside, there's special Gold Bronze Metallic paint set off with flat black and carbon fiber accents. The car rides on sexy black 19-inch Fuchs-style alloys borrowed from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/07/22/2010-porsche-911-sport-classic-quick-spin-road-test-review/">911 Sport Classic</a>.<br />
<br />
Inside, customers get a gold commemorative plaque, and all the Alcantara you could ever want. Porsche sets off the acres of black fabric with contrasting gold stitching.<br />
<br />
If you want one, you're pretty much out of luck. Porsche is only going to build 10 examples, and they're all going to China.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/01/porsche-celebrates-10-years-in-china-with-special-edition-911-tu/">Porsche celebrates 10 years in China with special edition 911 Turbo S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Jun 2011 18:30:00 EST. <small>9ff GT9-R - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />
Bonkers is a relative term, when you think about it. Case in point: the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/top-speed-test-on-sunday-sell-on-monday-9ff-offering-limited-r/">9ff GT9</a>. With 973 horsepower and a 409 km/h top speed - that's 254 mph, friends - this was already one bonkers supercar. And then <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/9ff">9ff</a> comes along with the GT9-R, an even faster version with - wait for it - 1120 horsepower and a claimed 414 km/h (257 mph) top speed. That's enough to outgun the 412 km/h (256 mph) record set by the SSC Ultimate Aero TT to claim the top-speed crown. That's right: pending outside verification at least, this is the world's fastest car. On the way, it'll hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.4 and 300 (186 mph) in 14.9. Right, bonkers. <br />
<br />
Although - like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/26/pics-aplenty-9ff-speed9-takes-the-porsche-911-turbo-cabrio-to-t/">9ff's tuner cars</a> - the GT9-R is loosely based on a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/911">Porsche 911</a>, it only bears what could barely be described as a passing resemblance. Just about the entire thing is built from scratch, with a 4.0-liter boxer six all but completely rebuilt.<br />
<br />
Only twenty examples of the range-topping GT9-R will be offered, although the *ahem* <em>lesser</em> versions with 750 or 987 horsepower are also available, each built to order to the customer's specifications. We're just afraid to ask how much many euros that entails, especially when the existing GT9 went for half a million. Details in the press release after the jump and photos in the gallery below.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Porsche 911 GT3 R - click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Over its nearly half-century of its existence, the Porsche 911 seems to have spawned nearly as many racing variants as production models. The newest one announced is the 911 GT3 R, which, as the name implies, is targeted at GT3 class racing worldwide. The GT3 R is the followup to the GT3 Cup S model and just as with its road cars, Porsche has aimed to make the new racer both faster and easier to drive. <br />
<br />
The GT3 R is derived from the most recent <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/26/pavlovs-bellporsche-reveals-prices-new-911-gt3-cup-racer-ahead-of-frankfurt/">Cup car that was launched in September</a>. It uses a larger normally aspirated 4.0-liter version of the classic flat-six that cranks out 480 horsepower. Like other road racing 911s, this one is rear-wheel drive only and uses a six-speed gearbox. The GT3 will be shown publicly in January at the Birmingham Motor Show in the UK before deliveries to teams start next spring. Since we can't afford one, we're hoping to see a few of these in the ALMS' new GT Challenge class next season. High-res gallery below, official press release after the jump.<br />

<br />
Here's the facts: Two Canadian men in a Porsche 997 encountered a woman (who jumped in front of their car) claiming that a man in a nearby Pontiac Wave (that's a Chevrolet Aveo to me and you) had just tried to assault her. The woman climbed in the back of the 997, and with the police on the phone, the Porsche boys chased the Pontiac all over Ottawa at speeds up to 170 km/h (around 105 mph). The chase, which sometimes involved residential roads, lasted about 20 minutes with the perp finally heading the wrong way through a McDonald's drive through and entering a roadblock set up by the police.<br />
<br />
Now, of course, the police knew where the Pontiac was because of the actions of the men in the Porsche. And therein lies the dilemma. In Canada, "some [are] hailing the men as heroes while others are denouncing them as reckless cowboys." Ottawa Police Chief Vern White says that the dispatcher should have told the men in the Porsche to stop their pursuit - but didn't. As far as heroics, "When they put her in the back of the car, that was heroism," White said. "What happened after wasn't." Your thoughts? <em>Thanks to Ben for the tip!</em><br />

However, thanks to the arcane keystrokes of AB reader Matt, the Turbo configurator has been discovered, and you can play with it... at least until Porsche disables it.<br /><br />To play: go to the <a href="http://cc.porsche.com/pva_new/colorConfigurator.do?userID=US&amp;lang=us&amp;PARAM=parameter_internet_us&amp;ORDERTYPE=997520&amp;screen=1280x1024&amp;RT=1252613093430">911 C4S configurator</a> and click "Models," then "From Scratch," then choose the 911, and then choose any one of the 13 variants offered. A pre-configured car will come up, choose "View Configuration," then "Customize," then "Accept Changes," and <em>voil&agrave;!</em> a Porsche Turbo canvas awaits your tasteful palette. You can't change the red interior color, however. <br /><br />It's a little work, sure, but it's a Porsche Turbo of your very own - and besides, what else were you really going to do with your Friday night?<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo">2010 Porsche 911 Turbo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010porsche911turbo_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010porsche911turbo_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010porsche911turbo_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010porsche911turbo_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-porsche-911-turbo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2010porsche911turbo_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://cc.porsche.com/pva_new/colorConfigurator.do?userID=US&amp;lang=us&amp;PARAM=parameter_internet_us&amp;ORDERTYPE=997520&amp;screen=1280x1024&amp;RT=1252613093430">Porsche</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/11/hidden-porsche-turbo-configurator-discovered-play-with-it-whi/">Hidden Porsche Turbo configurator discovered - play with it while you can...</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 11 Sep 2009 15:58:00 EST. <br /> You know what the biggest problem with Porsche's 997 Turbo is? Too slow. They're like German desert tortoises. Just kinda clumsy and always in the way. 480 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque rotating all four wheels might <em>sound</em> fast on paper, but it just isn't. Understanding this, Porsche came out with the more powerful GT2. However, 530 horsepower is still like standing still and rear-wheel drive is for drag racers. You need the traction of AWD, and something with more power than some <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/">dirty old Cadillac</a>. A lot more power.<br /> <br /> Meet the Switzer Perfomance P800 997. Here's the quick stats: 800 hp, zero-to-sixty in less than three seconds and the quarter-mile in just a smidge over ten seconds. Now that's <em>fast</em>. Oh yeah -- the P800's AWD, too. No one is going to mistake you for a Mustang with a blower. Where does an extra 320 hp vs. stock come from? Custom GT30 turbochargers, <span class="il">Switzer</span> MONSTER intercoolers, electronic boost control, fancy headers and exhaust, plus a carbon clutch pack. We'll take it. In yellow. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />A 1980 Porsche 911 SC Targa was deposited in my driveway during the spring of 1999. A good friend left it in my care while a contractor remodeled his garage. I'd never driven a Porsche, let alone a 911, but I would tend his car for three full months. With a 3.0-liter flat-6 hung way out back, the 180-horsepower engine was noisy, its open chassis flexible, and the whole thing smelled like dirty motor oil. Regardless of its rudimentary technology and semi-backwards handling tendencies, it was an absolute challenging thrill to drive. One decade later, d&eacute;j&agrave; vu, as a brand-new 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is sitting in the driveway. A direct descendant of the classic SC, it represents the pinnacle of Porsche engineering and the latest iteration of the rear-engine sports car. A week with the car reveals some surprises, exposes a few pitfalls, and confirms many theories. Read about all of them <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/21/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-carrera-4s/">after the jump...</a><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-c4s">In the Autoblog Garage - 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-c4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/c4s_1280__56_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-c4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/c4s_1280__08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-c4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/c4s_1280__06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-c4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/c4s_1280__05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-porsche-911-c4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/c4s_1280__03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><em><small>All photos Copyright </small></em><small></small></strong><small><strong><em>(C) 2009 </em></strong><strong><em>Michael C. <br />Most stock components in a production car can only be pushed so far. Keep adding horsepower and torque, and eventually...well, something is going to break. Some people, however, are all about exploring the limits. Take Tym Switzer, for example. His tuning company, Switzer Performance Innovation of Oberlin, Ohio has come up with a bolt-on tuning package for the Porsche 997 911 Turbo that offers<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/28/first-drive-bugatti-veyron/"> Bugatti Veyron</a> aping performance. So, how much power can the stock internals in Stuttgart's 3.8-liter flat-6 take? Apparently, quite a lot. <br /><br />The shop has recorded 850 horsepower and 727 lb-ft of torque on the rolling dyno, equating to over 1000 horsepower at the crank. Real world performance should be mind boggling, with the car reportedly reaching 60 miles-per-hour in the mid two second range, blowing through the 1/4 mile in just 9.79 seconds at 146 mph. Pricing looks to be just as fierce, with the Sledgehammer package retailing for $<span style="font-style: italic;">49,990</span>. While that's a lot of coin for a suite of bolt-ons, the performance would appear to speak for itself. <span style="font-style: italic;">Videos of both the dyno run and the 1/4 mile pass can be viewed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/tuner-creates-1000-horsepower-porsche-911-with-bolt-ons/">after the jump</a> as well as SPI's official press release. </span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer">SPI SLEDGEHAMMER</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spi-sledgehammer/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/sledgehammer_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.switzerperformanceinnovation.com/">Switzer Performance Innovation</a>]<br /><a target="_blank" href="http://swizterperformanceinnovation.com/"></a><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/tuner-creates-1000-horsepower-porsche-911-with-bolt-ons/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tuner creates 1000-horsepower Porsche 911... with bolt-ons.</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/09/tuner-creates-1000-horsepower-porsche-911-with-bolt-ons/">Tuner creates 1000-horsepower Porsche 911... with bolt-ons.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 20:32:00 EST. By the looks of it, the headlights are more vertical than the current model, and based on what's covered, the front and rear bumpers and valances will see the majority of the work. Intriguingly, the side mirrors on the car are from the 993, which we imagine are for testing purposes only. If the lower rear valance is any indication, the exhaust outlets could come in for revision, as well.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://globalmotors.net/more-spy-shots-next-generation-porsche-911-998/">Global Motors</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/27/spy-shots-998-porsche-911/">Spy Shots: 998 Porsche 911</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Nov 2008 11:28:00 EST. <br />Techart has worked its magic, yet again, on the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo, boosting output of the twin-turbo'd flat-six to 660 hp and 634 lb.-ft. of torque. The Techart GTstreet R benefits from a duo of new turbos, larger carbon fiber inlet pipes, revised intercoolers and a new cat-back exhaust mated to the revised manifold which all help to drop the 997's 0-60 time to 3.4 seconds when equipped with an auto 'box and 3.5 seconds with a manual. Top speed is a claimed 214 mph.<br /><br />Keeping the Techart-modified 911 planted at speed is a new coil-over kit and 20-inch wheels that work in conjunction with a wind-tunnel-tested body kit and carbon fiber spoiler to add another 22 pounds of down force. If those specs aren't enough to make it stand out, Techart also offers a new hood, carbon fiber headlights, side sills and air ducting for the rear bumper.<br /><br />Make the jump for all the details and check the gallery below for your next desktop.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r">Techart GTstreet R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_techart_gtstreet_r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_techart_gtstreet_r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/techart-gtstreet-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_techart_gtstreet_r_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/ass-engined-slot-car-of-the-gods-techart-gtstreet-r/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ass-engined slot-car of the Gods: Techart GTstreet R</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/29/ass-engined-slot-car-of-the-gods-techart-gtstreet-r/">Ass-engined slot-car of the Gods: Techart GTstreet R</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 19:28:00 EST. Porsche has followed up the debut of its freshened 997 rear-wheel-drive range with the introductions of the all-wheel-drive 2009 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S. Visually, the C4 and C4S are immediately distinguishable from their 2WD counterparts via the red reflector strip spanning the width between the taillamps. That's a nice touch that brings back some fond memories of the 911s of our youth. The C4's rear bodywork is also wider than that of the 2WD cars. Up front, you'll find the same schnoz introduced a couple of weeks ago. <br /> <br /> As with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/06/officially-official-2009-porsche-911-gets-direct-injection-and/">Carrera and Carrera S</a>, the C4 range also gets the new, direct-injected engines and the optional seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) twin-clutch gearbox. Power is up, and so is efficiency, while emissions output goes down. The Carrera 4's 3.6L flat six makes a stout 345 horses, and the step-up Carrera 4S pumps out 385 ponies from its 3.8. It's not just the engine and tranny that are new -- the previous car's all-wheel-drive system has now been replaced by Porsche Traction Management, which trickles down to the C4 from the mighty 911 Turbo. Want to scoff at lousy weather <em>and </em>still drive a 911? Come October (in Europe) your new ride will be waiting.<br /> <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-4-and-carrera-4s">2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-4-and-carrera-4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_997carrera4_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-4-and-carrera-4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_997carrera4_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-4-and-carrera-4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_997carrera4_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-4-and-carrera-4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_997carrera4_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-4-and-carrera-4s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_997carrera4_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/25/porsche-unveils-2009-911-carrera-4-and-4s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche unveils 2009 911 Carrera 4 and 4S</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/25/porsche-unveils-2009-911-carrera-4-and-4s/">Porsche unveils 2009 911 Carrera 4 and 4S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 08:00:00 EST. The 3.6L and 3.8L engines to be found under the engine covers of Carrera and Carrera S models are new, featuring gasoline direct injection for the first time, and bringing more power and improved fuel economy in tow. The 3.6L engine now produces 345 horsepower (a 20-horse increase), while the 3.8 in Carrera S gets a 30-horsepower boost, coming in at a very healthy 385 HP. Both engines' fuel economy and emissions output levels are improved, with the Carrera Coupe boasting a 24 mpg (US) combined-cycle figure.<br /><br />Also contributing to the cars' improved performance and fuel economy is the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that arrives for 2009. Dubbed Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK), it replaces the Tiptronic S in the Carrera and Carrera S. Visually, the 2009 Porsche 997 is freshened with bi-Xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights, and restyled taillamps that now use LED illumination. Also in back, you'll see that the Carreras get ovoid dual exhaust outlets, while the Carrera S cars get a pair of double-barreled tips. The cars arrive in Europe next month with a U.S. launch to follow later in this year. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-and-carrera-s">2009 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-and-carrera-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_porsche997_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-and-carrera-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_porsche997_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-and-carrera-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_porsche997_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-and-carrera-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_porsche997_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-porsche-911-carrera-and-carrera-s/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/09_porsche997_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/06/officially-official-2009-porsche-911-gets-direct-injection-and/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Officially Official: 2009 Porsche 911 gets direct injection and dual-clutch gearbox</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/06/officially-official-2009-porsche-911-gets-direct-injection-and/">Officially Official: 2009 Porsche 911 gets direct injection and dual-clutch gearbox</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 06 Jun 2008 09:22:00 EST. The German tuning firm is offering a new kit for both the GT2 and its all-wheel-drive sibling, the Porsche Turbo, in the form of the Avalanche 600 EVO. As it's name would imply, Gemballa has coaxed 600 hp (not to mention 619 lb.-ft. of torque) from Porsche's turbocharged flat-six through the use of a new intercooler, race exhaust and a retuned ECU. The dash to 62 mph is dispatched in 3.5 seconds and the top speed has been increased to 199 mph.<br /><br />To compliment the 911's newfound power, Gemball has fitted its Avalanche body kit, which includes a new hood, front spoiler and bumper, EVO wing and a host of air inlets and outlets. The stock suspension has been pulled in favor of a coilover setup hidden behind 405 mm front and 380 mm rear discs and Gemballa "Racing Black Edition" wheels sized 20x9-inches in front and 20x11.5-inches out back. Aluminum pedals and door plates are available to spruce up the interior, along with leather, carbon and alacantara trim, new carpet and a 340 mm steering wheel with optional "F1" paddle shifters. For interested in being corrupted by absolute power, we've posted the press release after the jump.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo">Gemballa Avalanche 600 GT2 EVO</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/01_gemballa_gt2_avalanche_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/02_gemballa_gt2_avalanche_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/03_gemballa_gt2_avalanche_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/04_gemballa_gt2_avalanche_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/05_gemballa_gt2_avalanche_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Gemballa via <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080520.011/gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo">WCF</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/20/never-enough-gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Never enough: Gemballa Avalanche 600 GT2 EVO</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/20/never-enough-gemballa-avalanche-600-gt2-evo/">Never enough: Gemballa Avalanche 600 GT2 EVO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 May 2008 14:31:00 EST. <p><br />We'll start by saying that it's not exactly hearsay, but it's not anywhere near official, either. Take one 997 Porsche Turbo that has lapped the 'Ring in 7:40, practically fast enough to form one of those Stargate SG-1 vortexes behind it. Then take one Nissan GT-R, benchmarked against that Porsche Turbo, and flog that baby around the 'Ring as fast as possible. Add a few reporters on hand with stopwatches. And when the GT-R flies past the finish line, the reporters discover those stopwatches have come to rest after just 7:38.</p>
<p>So the story is that the GT-R is two seconds faster than the 911 Turbo on the Nurburgring. And the Skyline in the photos doesn't even look to be the mad-gunner EVO-spec version. If that's the case -- and yes, that's a big if -- and say you allow for the inaccuracy of handheld stopwatches and add two seconds, so the GT-R did the same time as the Porsche Turbo... Well, we're not crowning a victor, or speculating about the whats and whys, or what will happen when the real timed laps in production versions are done... we're just saying that's pretty good. That's all. </p>

Although the front clip of this EDO-tuned GT2 may look like the 997 variant that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/10/frankfurt-2007-2008-porsche-gt2-caught-behind-closed-doors/">debuted last week in Frankfurt</a>, it's actually a carbon fiber replica that makes use of the headlight design employed on the new breed of 911s. Obviously, there's much more to the EDO Competition GT2 R than just a facelift, as evidenced by its massive fender flares, extreme body kit and Chicago-style deep-dish wheels.<br /><br />The GT2 R gets a series of upgrades, beginning with the engine, which benefits from a new exhaust and a retuned ECU bumping power output to 542 HP and 557 lb.-ft. of torque. The stock suspension has been ditched in favor of KW adjustable coilovers, while the brakes have grown to 380 mm up front and 350 mm in the rear, clamped by 4-piston fixed calipers.<br /><br />The rolling stock is comprised of 18-inchers at all four corners, measuring 10-inches wide up front and a massive 13-inches in the rear. All four wheels are shod in top-of-the-line Michelin Pilot Sports, sized 235/45 in front and 335/30 out back.<br /><br />Top speed: 205 MPH. 0-62: 3.8 seconds. 0-124: 11 flat. Bad-ass factor: immeasurable.<br /><br />[Source: EDO Competition]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edo-997-gt2-r">Edo 997 GT2 R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edo-997-gt2-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/edo99701_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edo-997-gt2-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/edo99702_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edo-997-gt2-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/edo99703_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edo-997-gt2-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/edo99704_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edo-997-gt2-r/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/edo99705_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/18/edo-competition-reworks-the-911-gt2-r-now-with-997-flavor/">Edo Competition reworks the 911 GT2 R, now with 997 flavor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 18 Sep 2007 16:29:00 EST. <p>Tuners just can't get enough of the 997 Turbo, with a list so far including <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/12/speedart-porsche-turbo-comes-in-regular-xl/">SpeedART</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/02/techart-releases-new-shots-of-the-gtstreet/">TechArt</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/27/tunage-edo-shark-911-turbo/">Edo</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/30/rinspeed-releases-997-turbo-based-le-mans-600/">Rinspeed</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/19/check-your-toupee-9ffs-997-turbo-cabrio-trc-91/">9ff</a>. That latter tuner even rings three bells by winning the HP competition, the top speed run, <em>and</em> being a convertible. The Swiss modifier fiddles with the ECU, swaps out the stock turbos for its own units, installs a high-flow exhaust, new air filter, and a strengthened clutch. Sportech also adds hi-po brakes with 6-pot calipers, a sports suspension, and a new front spoiler and rear wing -- and some hot wheels. Then it tunes the entire thing in four stages: from a 530-hp Stage 1 package to a 580-hp Stage 4 time-bender that digs holes in the road with 564-lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 210 mph. We never complain about anyone who adds to the already fantastic 997 Turbo, but in such a crowded and nandrolone-infused field, this latest entrant could sound, well, excuse us for saying so, but... tame.</p>

They're clearer than the ones included in the brochure sca, which you can view by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-gt2-brochure/">click ing here</a>. The car'sessentials break down as follows:<br /><br /><strong>2008 Porsche 911 GT2</strong><br />
<ul>
    <li>3.6-liter twin turbo flat six</li>
    <li>530 horsepower at 5,600 rpm</li>
    <li>505 lb.-ft. of torque  from 2,200 to 4,500 rpm</li>
    <li>0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds</li>
    <li>0-100 mph in 7.1 seconds</li>
    <li>Top speed of 204 mph</li>
    <li>Curb weight:: 3,175 lbs</li>
    <li>Titanium exhaust</li>
    <li>6-speed manual gearbox</li>
    <li>Launch control system</li>
</ul>
The brochure spells it all out in greater detail, but suffice to say that the new GT2 is one of the most serious sports cars to come from Porsche -- ever, and it appears to be more than worthy of the "Respect Required" tagline the automaker applies to it. The 100,000th 997 has rolled out of Zuffenhausen, and the significance here is not the number, but how quickly it got there. The first 997 was completed in April 2004, and no other 911 generation has reached the 100,000 car mark in so short a time. The landmark vehicle, shown above, is a Guards Red 911 Carrera S with a manual transmission which will be delivered to a German customer. How'd Porsche get to the number so fast? Well, obviously there's demand for the car, and production capabilities have only improved over the years. We wouldn't be at all surprised to see the next-gen 911 repeat this feat. <br /><br />[Source: Porsche]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/11/porsche-997-hits-100-000-units-faster-than-any-other-911-generat/">Porsche 997 hits 100,000 units faster than any other 911 generation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 14:37:00 EST. The German tuning haus has taken the 997 Porsche Turbo convertible, stroked the 3.6-liter six to four-liters, modified every conceivable part of the motor, all in an effort to reach a top speed of 237 MPH.<br /><br />On the outside, the only thing that distinguishes the TRC 91 from its "sedate" ancestry is a set of 20-inch rollers, upgraded brakes, a revised front grille to increase airflow, a couple of aero bits and a trunk lid made entirely out of carbon fiber.<br /><br />The 4.0-liter mill was actually de-tuned from the hardtop model, which creates 910 HP and 671 lb.-ft. of torque, and allows the rear-engined rocket to make it to 60 just after you count to three. Insanity. But it's our kind of madness.<br /><br />[Source: Motor Authority]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-trc-91-997-porsche-turbo-cabrio">9ff TRC 91 997 Porsche Turbo Cabrio</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-trc-91-997-porsche-turbo-cabrio/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/9ff_trc_91_cabrio_1280_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-trc-91-997-porsche-turbo-cabrio/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/9ff_trc_91_cabrio_1280_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-trc-91-997-porsche-turbo-cabrio/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/9ff_trc_91_cabrio_1280_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-trc-91-997-porsche-turbo-cabrio/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/9ff_trc_91_cabrio_1280_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-trc-91-997-porsche-turbo-cabrio/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/9ff_trc_91_cabrio_1280_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/19/check-your-toupee-9ffs-997-turbo-cabrio-trc-91/">Check your toupee: 9ff's 997 Turbo cabrio TRC 91</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 10:24:00 EST.
