Saab lovers take notice. Swedish auction house KVD has some ultra rare Saab products on the block, and we're not talking about a 1950s Saab 92. Up for auction are a bunch of low-mileage Saab models being sold off as part of the bankrupted automaker's assets. Included in the lot of cars are models like the 2012 9-5 SportCombi (above), the 2012 9-4X (shown below) and even a 9-5 sedan driven by Victor Muller himself.

Discovered by PistonHeads, this Saab auction has numerous 9-5 SportCombi and 9-4X models, which should prove to be very rare cars. Only a small number of 9-4Xs were ever sold, and Saab closed up shop before the 9-5 SportCombi could even go on sale here. In addition to the rarity, many of the cars have fewer than 10 miles on their odometers and seemingly low reserve prices; a 9-4X 3.0 XWD Premium with just six miles has a current bid of 180,000 Swedish Krona (just over $27,000 USD) that has already met the reserve price. Some of the cars still have the protective factory shipping tape covering up the interior and exterior.

Other than the rare SportCombis and 9-4Xs being auctioned off, there's also a sharp 2012 9-3 Cabriolet with 11 miles on the clock and a V8-powered 2006 Saab 9-7X with just 3,003 miles.
Rare 9-5 SportCombi, 9-4X models being sold off in Saab asset auction originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 03 Dec 2012 08:59:00 EST.
After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.

Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.

The investigation into Trailblazer blazes has moved onto the next level, according to Reuters.

Back in February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration started investigating 2006-2007 model year Chevrolet Trailblazers after receiving a dozen complaints about fires breaking out in door panels. Now the federal agency will be conducting an engineering analysis into some 341,786 vehicles, according to the report.

NHTSA has reportedly received 83 complaints over the issue, with 28 of those concerning actual fires. No injuries have been reported, and General Motors told Reuters that it is cooperating with the investigation, including examining the Trailblazer's platform-mates, the Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X.
NHTSA opens door to expanded Chevy Trailblazer fire probe originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 18 Jun 2012 09:29:00 EST.
As previously reported, Saab has announced that it is ceasing all warranty coverage on its vehicles in North America in the wake of its official bankruptcy in its home country of Sweden. That's bad news for anyone who's purchased a vehicle from Saab here in the States expecting to receive a few years of warranty coverage, but Saab Cars USA CEO Tim Colbeck is hoping to offer a solution. Speaking to The Detroit Bureau, he said:

"We're committed to develop a way to handle warranties for all owners of 2010 and 2011 Saab models. [The goal is to] reinstate (warranty coverage) as quickly as we can."

That's all well and good, but there's currently no plan to actually make it happen. While both Saab Cars USA and Saab Parts, the company that provides spare parts for Saab vehicles, are both still in business, Colbeck says that his company cannot reimburse dealers for warranty work at this time. That means either the dealer or the customer will be stuck holding the bill.

In one bit of good news for some Saab owners, General Motors has announced that it will step up to the plate and provide warranty service for any vehicles built while it owned the Swedish marque. According to Consumer Reports, that means Saab 9-3, 9-5 and 9-7X models built before January 1, 2010, should be under warranty from GM until those warranties expire.
Saab USA still looking for ways to honor warranties originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 18:28:00 EST. Owners of 2005-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Saab 9-7X SUV models with faulty gas gauges now have some recourse. According to a report in The Detroit News, General Motors will cover half the repair costs for select vehicles with malfunctioning fuel level sensors. According to a GM spokesman, that should mean paying less than $200 for the fix, provided the SUV in question has less than 120,000 miles on the clock.

GM's offer stems from a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that was launched in April, after GM and NHTSA received thousands of complaints of gauge failure. According to the report, nearly 300,000 vehicles may experience premature wear on the fuel level sensor contacts. This can lead to incorrect fuel level readings, especially after filling the tank, when the gauge may still show empty. But it can also result in the gas gauge showing more fuel than is actually in the tank, leading to the inevitable running out of gas and engine stalling. A total of 867,337 vehicles were included in the investigation.

GM issued a service bulletin to dealers in August, as well as a notification to owners. So if your Trailblazer is running on empty, you might want to check your mailbox and start looking for change under the seats.
Fed closes investigation into GM SUV fuel sensors originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Oct 2011 11:01:00 EST. The Swedish automaker has been in a marketing and design rut, which it intends to rectify by offering a new compact model that takes aim at the MINI and other small-sized competitors like the Volvo C30.

The new compact vehicle will be accompanied by a new small crossover and a redesigned 9-5, both of which will take styling cues from the Aero-X concept that has already infused the new 9-3. A new 9-5 will be based on the Theta and Epsilon 2 platforms, and is likely to debut in 2009. The CUV is expected near the close of the decade, while the 9-7X may meet its maker by the end of 2008.

[Source: Automotive News - Sub. By "limited," we're not kidding, as only 500 will be produced for model year 2007. The Altitude package includes a set polished 18" alloys, side steps, a rear-seat entertainment system and an Altitude-exclusive metallic finish called "carbon fiber gray."

We still can't believe there's a Trailblazer somewhere under there, because the 9-7X looks light years better than its corporate cousin. As for this Altitude Edition package, its squat stance and step bars give it a nice, low-to-the ground appearance. It's even covered by GM's new-fangled 100,000 mile warranty.

The Altitude Edition will run you $42,130 for the 6-cylinder and $44,130 if you go for the V8. That price range is pretty crowded in the luxo-SUV segment, so this Saab is going to have to slug it out with some pretty stiff competition. None of them offer the Altitude's level of exclusivity, though, and we're pretty sure there are 500 people out there who'll take the plunge.

(Press release after the jump)

[Source: Saab]
Continue reading Rarefied Air: Saab intros 9-7X Altitude Edition

Rarefied Air: Saab intros 9-7X Altitude Edition originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 15 Sep 2006 20:25:00 EST. The Trailblazer is expected to be discontinued by 2010 and Spenchian said that the introduction of a Saab CUV would likely overlap a bit with the 9-7X.

Spenchian, however, wouldn't reveal what platform on which the Saab CUV would ride. Ward's reports that the new CUV could be built on the same platform as an upcoming Cadillac CUV destined only for the European market. Dubbed the BLX, this Caddy CUV would be built at Saab's Trollhattan plant that currently can't keep workers busy building only the Saab 9-3 and Cadillac BLS sedans. Such a move would move production of Saab's new people hauler back to Sweden from its current point of production, Moraine, Ohio, where the Chevy Trailblazer is built.

The Saab 9-4X will be priced right on top of the 9-3, which ranges from $25,570 to $43,320, and will be sporting Saab's new design language previewed on the Aero X concept.

[Source: Ward's Auto]
Saab confirms 9-4X CUV to replace 9-7X SUV originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 01 Aug 2006 18:55:00 EST.
