<br />When BMW rolled out the new 6 Series coupe in 2003, it reconnected with a nameplate that had laid dormant for some 14 years. The original 6-Series, produced between 1976 and 1989, earned itself a cult following and iconic status, epitomized by the 635CSi. Some apparently feel that the current 6 doesn't pay enough homage to the original. The people at Racer X Design count themselves in that camp, and are evidently hoping there are more like-minded enthusiasts... with cash.<br /><br />Racer X Design has caught our attention before with some arresting concepts, including the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/17/racer-x-design-kc-427-concept-offers-modern-interpretation-of-th/">KC-427</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/10/rendered-speculation-racer-x-design-rz-formula/">RZ Formula</a>. The RZ-M6, however, takes the existing 6 Series and retros it up a bit, in turn paying a bit of homage to BMW's own <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/27/modern-retro-bmw-m1-homage-officially-revealed/">M1 Hommage concept</a>. The modified body panels would also widen the coupe by an extra 50 mm, giving it a more aggressive stance to go along with the tribute styling. Of course, Racer X Design needs to attract some potential customers to bring the RZ-M6 to life, but it's already a few steps closer to reality than the studio's previous projects. Check it out in the gallery below and read the full press release after the jump.<em><br /><br /></em><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/low/">Racer X Design BMW RZ-M6</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2009-bmw-rz-m6-by-racer-x-design-side-race-1280x960_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2009-bmw-rz-m6-by-racer-x-design-rear-race-1280x960_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2009-bmw-rz-m6-by-racer-x-design-rear-and-side-1280x960_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2009-bmw-rz-m6-by-racer-x-design-rear-1600x1200_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2009-bmw-rz-m6-by-racer-x-design-front-race-1280x960_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.racerxdesign.com">Racer X Design</a> via <a href="http:// http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/2009/top-2009-BMW-RZ-M6-by-Racer-X-Design.htm">SeriousWheels.com</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/15/rendering-homage-racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rendering Homage: Racer X Design BMW RZ-M6</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/15/rendering-homage-racer-x-design-bmw-rz-m6/">Rendering Homage: Racer X Design BMW RZ-M6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 11:29:00 EST. <p>BMW has responded to customer demand for a tauter 6 Series by announcing the availability of a new Edition Sport trim level for the grand tourer. While the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/29/bmw-tightens-up-the-m6-with-new-competition-package/">Competition Package</a> offers a host of modifications for the M6, the Edition Sport follows along the same lines for the rest of the 6 Series range, including both coupe and convertible models.</p>
<p>The package includes a restyled hood and new lightweight 19" alloys, plus stiffer anti-roll bars and the anti-roll stabilization system borrowed from the M division. Brushed aluminum trim for the cabin and fog lights also form part of the Edition Sport, along with a couple of new colors. The 650i Edition Sport also benefits from a new exhaust system. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced for the US market, but the package commands a &pound;1500-2000 premium in the UK. While we wait for word, you can check out the British press release after the jump and the gallery of high-resolution images below.</p>

<p>Whether or not the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/30/lithuanian-builds-car-from-polyurethane-foam/#comments">foam-skinned car</a> based on a Mercedes-Benz got your motor going yesterday, you have to give the artist credit for painstakingly completing not one, but <em>two</em> of these polyurethane-plated projects. Thanks to a reader's tip, we found this <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/13/bmw-slaps-a-refreshed-nose-on-the-6-plus-new-prices/">BMW 6 Series-based</a> interpretation wearing the same brilliant red paint, flashy 30-inch dubs, and dual triangulated exhaust tips. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.newsgroupu.puslapiai.lt/2007/04/03/pagaliau-baigtas-projektas-bmw-m6-645i-pimp-edition/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/foam_6_250.jpg" alt="" /></a>While the sculptor has kept much of the Bangle-butt intact, the overall aesthetics on this execution are much more pleasing to the eye. A glance inside indicates this attempt isn't as thorough as the other (the interior appears merely painted, not sculpted). However, as witnessed by the junk in the door-mounted map pocket, this one is getting some use on the streets too. <em>Thanks for the tip Tarakonaz!</em></p>

The black tape covering the sides of the headlamps indicates that some work may have been done in the lighting department, while out back, the tail lights are given three gill-like bumps on each side to add a little bling to the butt.<br /><br />BMW took some chances with the original design of the 6-Series, but the refresh will likely go un-noticed to all but the most highly-trained eye. If you thought the current 6-Series was a unattractive, we think you'd be better off if you just turned away; nothing to see here.<br /><br />[Source: The Car Connection]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/13/spy-shots-bmw-6-series/">Spy Shots: BMW 6-Series</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 13 Mar 2007 07:04:00 EST.
