Before Ferrari officially debuts its 612 Scaglietti replacement to the public, the automaker is holding a private event where a select few people will get to see the new car in its final, production-spec glory. An anonymous Autoblog reader sent us the invitation you see above, which loosely translated from Italian to English reads, "Get ready to jump on board... Ferrari invites you to discover an all-new Ferrari in preview." The invite also includes a nice teaser shot of the car's front quarter panel. The private unveiling appears to be an online-only viewing affair and will be held on Friday, January 21 at 12:00 CET, or 6:00 AM Eastern time here in the United States.

We've seen plenty of spy shots of the Ferrari 612 successor, and even though the final design has been nicely camouflaged with boxy cladding, it's no secret that the new car will be all sorts of sexy. The front end looks to be inspired by the 458 Italia, and the very classic shooting brake proportions are fitting for a grand tourer such as the 612. Oh, and did we mention that the car is rumored to have around 670 horsepower from a 6.3-liter V12? Our interest is indeed piqued.

Ferrari 612 successor spy shots - Click above for high-res image gallery

It's been less than a week since the last batch of shots of Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti replacement have hit the Net. And while we were quick to dismiss the hunchbacked shape the last time around, this more revealing set of photos proves that the 612 does, in fact, take on a more traditional shooting brake design rather than that of a swoopy coupe.

Our spies managed to get a quick glance inside the 612 replacement, and in addition to confirming that there's an honest-to-goodness luggage compartment out back, we now have a relatively clear idea of what the cockpit looks like. In addition to heaps of the finest leather, we can see what appears to be a set of nicely bolstered seats and a Ferrari-spec steering wheel complete with the bright red "engine start" button and drive mode selector switch.

This latest Ferrari will undoubtedly be an eye-catching piece of machinery when the camouflage cladding is removed. Gorgeousness aside, we're salivating at the rumors of a 670-horsepower 6.3-liter V12 being found underhood, meaning 0-60 should be ripped off in just 3.7 seconds and the car's top speed should be well north of 200 miles per hour.

Don't be fooled by that big ol' bulge out back - the successor to the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is destined to be a swoopy, sexy coupe when it launches sometime next year. Our spies indicate that the hunchback shape is all for show and that it's part of an elaborate camouflage suit designed to completely mask the sloping rear roofline. Your dreams of a Ferrari-badged shooting brake have indeed been dashed. Still, the new 612 coupe will surely be an eye-catcher, what with its 458 Italia-inspired front fascia, long, raked hood and short rear deck.

The 612 replacement will likely use an advanced all-wheel-drive system and power will come from a 6.3-liter V12 churning out roughly 670 horsepower, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The rumors surrounding this combination suggest a 3.7-second 0-60 time and a top speed somewhere around 210 miles per hour. We're planning to see the finished 612 at the Geneva Motor Show this March, so stay tuned for the full hotness.

Our army of camera-wielding spy shot masters have managed to snag a few tasty photos of what appears to be the most advanced test mule of the expected Ferrari 612 Scaglietti successor that we've seen to date. As you may recall, rumors have cropped up that Ferrari is hard at work on a new shooting brake interpretation of the 612, and given the cladding slathered all over this particular vehicle, it would be easy to believe that the Prancing Horse pictured above is that very creation. Still, we have reason to believe that additional camouflage on this mule is covering up something a little more conventional - a 2+2 coupe bodystyle, though a rakish two-box shape may also be in the cards down the road.

A longer wheelbase is expected to help facilitate a little extra leg room, or possibly the components of a new Ferrari all-wheel drive system. There's also some thinking that points to the next 612 as packing a KERS-type system to help boost fuel economy and power off of the line. Either way, we'll find out more as we get closer to the Geneva Motor Show in March, where the 612 successor is expected to make its debut.

We're anticipating a new Ferrari to be unveiled in a few months time at the Geneva Motor Show, but just what form - and arguably just as vitally, what technology - the new Prancing Horse will take has been the subject of much rumor and conjecture as of late.

Based on Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo's reported pronouncement that his company is preparing "a very different new Ferrari" for the Swiss salon, initial reports speculated that a production-ready hybrid could be in the cards. But the latest reports seem to call that into question.

So if not a hybrid, what has Maranello got in store for us? Most reports point towards a replacement for the 612 Scaglietti, the company's flagship (if somewhat lackluster) four-seat GT. Others suggest a shooting brake two-door wagon, while yet others report that whatever debuts will incorporate the company's part-time all-wheel drive system, if not necessarily a hybrid drivetrain. The truth probably lies in the combination of several of these reports, if not all of them, but we'll just have to sit tight to see what will lie underneath the veil come March.

It's been a hot minute since we've heard any rumblings about Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti replacement. The oldest member of the Prancing Horse marque is due for an overhaul in the very near future, and while we've only seen a singular spy video that barely shows off the new body style, we can confirm one thing: Ferrari makes one hell of a sweet-sounding V12.

Seen here running around Italy's Fiorano racetrack, this 612 mule is obviously testing out new engine mechanics, and the revised exhaust is an aural delight for anyone whose ears perk up at the sound of naturally aspirated, twelve-cylinder, Italian-bred powerhouses. See (and hear) for yourself, after the jump.

With the 458 Italia, Calfornia, 612 Scaglietti, 599 GTB Fiorano and numerous derivations thereof, Ferrari's juggling more distinct models than it has since the days of the 328, Mondial, 412 and Testarossa. So while updating its line-up on an ad-hoc basis has worked for the company previously, Maranello has now revealed a solid product life-cycle scheme that will see a new model revealed every year.

The plan calls for each model to live for eight years, with an updated version to arrive four years after a model's introduction. With four models in the range, that will allow Ferrari to debut an all-new or significantly updated core model every year. And that doesn't include introductions of convertible or lightweight Scuderia-style variants along the way, to say nothing of the limited-production Enzo-class supercars slated to top the range every ten years.

The news casts further light on the full-range updates which Ferrari revealed just a couple of months ago. On top of that, Ferrari reportedly confirms that, although the prices will remain similar, the replacements for the 612 and 599 will be further differentiated from each other. As for hybrids, Ferrari's got a few applications of its HY-KERS system in the pipeline, but it will take at least five years to bring them to market.

Ferrari fanatics should be familiar with the work of Novitec Rosso. The Dutch tuning house regularly churns out beefed-up versions of Maranello's finest. But while recent releases have upgraded the California, 599 GTB Fiorano and 430 Scuderia, Novitec has now turned its attention to Ferrari's flagship grand tourer.

The custom 612 Scaglietti has been treated to an ECU upgrade and a host of cosmetic and rolling stock upgrades. The lightly massaged 5.7-liter V12 - good for 530 horsepower and 434 lb-ft in stock trim - has been boosted to nearly 560 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, dropping the big coupe's 0-60 mph sprint below the four-second mark and its top end to north of 200 mph.

Coupled with interior enhancements, darkened indicator lights and 20-inch front and 21-inch rear modular wheels, Novitec has imbued the big Scag with a modest, but much needed attitude adjustment until its replacement arrives. Details in the press release after the jump, high-res images in the gallery below.

With the new 458 Italia ready to go, the 458 Spider on its way, and the California still fresh on the market, Ferrari is turning its attention from the V8 range to its V12 flagships. CAR sat down with the company's CEO and managing director Amedeo Felisa, who revealed the full roll-out schedule for not one, not two, but three new V12 supercars currently under development in Maranello.

First up is the 612 Scaglietti, which has been on the market since 2004. That may not seem like a long product life cycle, but considering the lackluster Scag hasn't exactly won the hearts and minds of enthusiasts and customers, Ferrari is apparently moving ahead with its replacement, due to hit the market by 2012.

Around the same time, we can expect to see the long-anticipated supercar to follow in the footsteps of the 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo. Although Ferrari has been working on hybrid propulsion and other forms of green technology, those bits won't be ready by the time the Enzo's successor rolls around, so expect a more conventional V12 (or possibly twin turbo V8) to drive Maranello's new benchmark.

The replacement for the 599 GTB Fiorano, meanwhile, will take a little longer. The two-seat GT was introduced a few years ago and recently treated to a new HGTE package to keep it ahead of the competition. But although the new 458 is already expected to outgun the Fiorano, and with arch-rival Lamborghini hard at work on a successor to the Murcielago, Ferrari isn't planning to replace the 599 before 2015.
After about three hours at Meadow Brook, team Autoblog was ready to head out and get writing. The only thing that had us scratching our heads was the lack of modern supercars out on the lawn. On our way out the door, though, one of the gentlemen working the show asked us if we'd seen the exotics, which were hidden at the side of Meadow Brook Hall. Thank you sir.

Once we entered the hidden patio at Meadow Brook, we were greeted with dozens of supercars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Porsche, along with a smattering of ultra-rare rides, including the Reventon, Veyron, 959 and Spyker C8 Laviolette. Ferrari was well-represented with a 612 Scaglietti, California, a pair of F430s and a 599 and we were also happy to see a V-10 Audi R8, a couple Astons and, perhaps our favorite of all, the absolutely stunning Alfa Romeo 8C.

Click on the gallery below to peruse 112 high-res images of the supercars you've been daydreaming about. Tens of thousands of people paid $25 each to see these them, but you get the Autoblog grand tour free of charge.
As the big V12 four-seater is the oldest model in the Ferrari range, logic dictates that it should be next up for replacement. However, there remain more questions than answers as to the nature of the new grand tourer.

Rather than update the current 612, sources suggest that its replacement will be an all-new model. Expect the Enzo-derived engine to provide the motivation in the place of the 575-derived V12 that initially powered the Scaglietti. So far all we can tell is that the tail pipes have been reconfigured in a stacked arrangement like those on the California, while at the front, a big square box protrudes from the hood to house whatever kind of next-gen powertrain Ferrari has in store. Ferrari's been known to be working on a part-time all-wheel-drive system to help handling and traction, while a KERS-derived hybrid braking system could also find its way into the 612 successor and direct injection is likely to be employed. Sources suggest the new GT to debut in 2011, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it arrive sooner.

[Source: NextAutos.com]
Spy Shots: Ferrari 612 successor spotted in the wild originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 09:29:00 EST.
Try playing hide-and-go-seek with a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and you're bound to lose. At over sixteen feet in length, the two-door GT is longer than a Hummer H3 and nearly as long as a Mercedes S-Class. But one owner may have found the key. This desert-camo Prancing Horse was spotted by Ferrari Chat board member "elipinsk" in the wilds of Germany.

Speculation was that it was yet another creation of Bathing Ape founder Nigo, along the same lines as his camouflaged Rolls-Royce Phantom, Bugatti Veyron and classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. We might have placed it among Saddam Hussein's corral of high-end automobiles, but indications are that it actually belongs to a local real estate developer. And not in the Persian Gulf, either, but in Wiesbaden, Germany. The "intriguing" treatment appears to have been done with a vinyl wrap, so at least it can be reversed fairly painlessly, which is more than we can say for its application.

Gallery: Camouflaged Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

[Source: FerrariChat.com via autoblog.nl]
Camo Cameo: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti ready for desert storming originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 21 Apr 2009 12:29:00 EST. Ferrari has seen the benefits of what direct injection can do, and the Italian supercar maker plans on adding the technology to Enzo's babies by 2009. Ferrari is using Audi as its benchmark, due to the fact that the German automaker has used DI successfully in several different engines.

Direct injection will first infiltrate the Ferrari lineup with the updated F430, and a ten-percent bump in power will be the most noticeable byproduct of the engine upgrade. When opening up the engine bay, things will look different as everything from the block up has to be redesigned. New cylinder heads, valve trains, intake, and throttle bodies will need to be updated for DI to make its way into the famous engine bays. Direct injection will also reduce emissions by 40-percent, which will bring the powerful sports car to more acceptable levels of pollution.

Look for the 612 Scaglietti and the 599 GTB Fiorano to receive DI next, and all applications will receive a 5- to 8-percent bump in fuel economy once the engine tech is incorporated. While direct injection will undoubtedly change the personality of Ferrari's sought-after powerplants, we're sure the ten-percent power bump and improved green stature will help everyone become accustomed to the change.

[Source: Autocar.co.uk]
Direct fuel injection coming to Ferrari in 2009 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 09:54:00 EST. You can argue that the presence of the latter essentially eliminates the need for the former, but some people like being able to tune in to a radio station where there's the outside chance of hearing songs they may not necessarily own yet. Most luxury marques, from Audi to Rolls-Royce, already have the satellite base covered. So it was a bit of a surprise to learn that Ferrari hadn't gotten into the game. That's over though, as Modena has selected XM as its extra-terrestrial radio provider of choice. The first car to get it is the 612 Scaglietti, which is fine and all, but we can't figure out why anyone would want yet another audio source to compete with the sweet music made by the car's V12. At least the NavTraffic feature can help keep the Ferrari on roads whose conditions allow it to maintain a proper pace.

[Source: XM Radio]
Continue reading Ferrari adds XM Radio, NavTraffic to 612 Scaglietti

Ferrari adds XM Radio, NavTraffic to 612 Scaglietti originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 09 Aug 2007 16:32:00 EST. Well, here's a third for you: The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti by Hamann features a new exhaust system that provides added bellow to the V12's already-sonorous tailpipe music. It would not be a Hamann deal, of course, without an aero package, either. In this case, it looks quite tacked-on if you ask us. We're not crazy about how the company's "Edition Race" wheels look in this application, either. New springs and full interior customization are also available. Oh, and that Hamann decal on the front bumper? Ridiculous. Make it go away...now. We generally like a lot of the stuff Hamann does, but in this case, maybe they should have left well enough alone. We'll take the exhaust and leave it at that. Well...if someone gives us a Scaglietti first, that is.

[Source: Hamann]

Gallery: Hamann Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Continue reading No stone unturned: Hamann does the Ferrari 612, too

No stone unturned: Hamann does the Ferrari 612, too originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 May 2007 20:07:00 EST. If you don't remember, however, here's a link to our original piece on the car. And really, it's not as if we can blame you if you did forget about it. For all its personalized features, including embossed Wallpaper* asterix logos, custom map pockets, and a matching set of luggage, the Wallpaper* Scaglietti lookes basically like any other "pedestrian" 612 on the surface. All the special elements require an up-close inspection to be seen, and the car's custom two-tone Nero/Blu Pozzi finish remains as indistinguishable in photographs as it did 8 months ago.

Still, a custom Ferrari is a custom Ferrari, and this one has a new home in Ireland. The car is now the property of collector Paul Hill, who paid an undisclosed amount for the car.

Press release after the jump.

[Source: Ferrari GB]

Gallery: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Wallpaper* Magazine Edition

Continue reading Wallpaper* Ferrari 612 Scaglietti finds a home

Wallpaper* Ferrari 612 Scaglietti finds a home originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 19 Mar 2007 16:58:00 EST. With an illustrious history that spans the last 60 years and then some, the company currently sits at or near the top of both motorsports and the commerical arena in which it sells its Italian exotics. This year is Ferrari's 60th anniversary, and it's celebrating the milestone in a very Ferrari way, which is to say unlike anyone else. The festivities begain at the Italian embassy in Abu Dhabi today where Ferrari owners set out on a relay that will ultimately involve over 10,000 cars on a trip across China, Japan, Australia, South Africa, American and all of Europe. The trip is actually a relay, in which a special baton will be carried that bears 60 enamel symbols representing the 60 most important events in Ferrari's history. It's topped by a platinum and diamond prancing horse - very fitting.

At the start of the relay this morning, Piero Ferrari, son of company founder Enzo, gave a speech in which he also announced that the company will build and sell 60 very unique 612 Scagliettis. The cars will be offered in a two-tone livery with available colors that have graced the marque's most memorable models from year's past. Each will have a trick electrochromic glass roof, of which the degree of opacity can be infinitely adjusted by the driver. What will make each 612 the rarest of collectibles, however, is a small enameled symbol, presumably matching one of the the ones on the relay baton, set in the center tunnel of each car. We're guessing you won't be able to arrive at your Ferrari dealer and plunk down a deposit for one of these. Chances are you'll be invited by the company itself to purchaes one. I wouldn't hold your breath for the opportunity, however.

Check out Ferrari's full press release after the jump.

[Source: Ferrari]

Gallery: 60th Anniversary Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Continue reading Happy 60th: Ferrari building 60 individually unique 612 Scagliettis

Happy 60th: Ferrari building 60 individually unique 612 Scagliettis originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 29 Jan 2007 19:41:00 EST. Well, the finished product is out, and while it's certainly very nice, its special nature is not immediately apparent. In fact, at first glance it looks surprisingly stock.

Created using Ferrari's Carrozzeria Scaglietti personlization/customization program, the big GT sports a subtle two-tone paint scheme that combines the colors Nero and Blu Pozzi. Unfortunately, the combination is so understated, the color differences are not readily apparent in the photos released. It sounds elegant, but it's probably better appreciated when viewed in person. That two-tone theme is carried inside as well, where it is a bit more discernible. The Daytona-style seats are done in Nero and Blu Scuro leather, with Blu stitching adding additional contrast throughout the car. The effect is very nice, as shown in one of the detail shots after the jump.

A couple of bespoke features are added as well. The Wallpaper* asterisx logo is embossed on the leather glovebox lid and on the custom map pockets added to the sides of the center tunnel. The 612's custom-fitted luggage also gets embossed Wallpaper* logos. Other "off-the-shelf" Carrozzeria Scaglietti options include yellow brake calipers, a yellow-faced tachometer and the aforementioned "Daytona" seats (which are a great retro touch).

As for the car itself, it's a 612 Scaglietti F1 with the HGTC handling pack. It's best feature -- above and beyond all the custom bits described above -- is underhood. The 533-horsepower V12, you see, is the perfect complement to whatever custom colors you choose to adorn the car with.

If any readers attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, we'd love to know how this car looks in person.
