Our first exotic car poster (Countach FTW!), our first subscription to a buff book (in our own name) and countless hours spent on the carpet with our Hot Wheels collection doing imaginary power slides and performing gravity defying leaps over the abyss of our kitchen sink. Amazingly, Hot Wheels has been facilitating those memories for four decades since it began selling its die-cast toys back in 1968.<br /><br />For Hot Wheels' 40th anniversary, it commissioned artists to design <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/30/sema-2007-hot-wheels-tries-something-new-to-celebrate-its-40th/">a few concepts</a> that would celebrate the toys' heritage, and it is now planning a U.S. tour to mark the four <em>billionth</em> miniature sold. You'd have to be a fast food restaurant to claim to have served more people than that. Details about the tour are minimal, but Hot Wheels is planning a stop off in Detroit and an appearance at the historic races at Watkins Glen once things get underway later this summer. And a tour wouldn't be complete without schwag, so Hot Wheels plans on giving out collector cars in a variety of colors during the trip. We are so there.<br /><br />[Source: AutoWeek via <a href="http://news.windingroad.com/etc/hot-wheels-celebrates-40-years/">Winding Road</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hot-wheels-40th-anniversary-concepts/low/">Hot Wheels 40th Anniversary Concepts</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hot-wheels-40th-anniversary-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/hotwheels---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hot-wheels-40th-anniversary-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/hotwheels---2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hot-wheels-40th-anniversary-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/hotwheels40th---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hot-wheels-40th-anniversary-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/hotwheels40th---10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hot-wheels-40th-anniversary-concepts/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/hotwheels40th---11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/18/hot-wheels-celebrating-40-years-planning-tour-of-the-u-s/">Hot Wheels celebrating 40 years, planning tour of the U.S.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 16:31:00 EST. Each is finished in Marble White, features special badging and some unique features like a leather and Alcantara interior. Retro-style contrast-stitched leather trim is meant to evoke the classic Cosmo Sport, and it's also got Bilstein dampers and a foam-filled front cross member. Power output is the same as what's found in standard RX-8 Type S (6MT) and Type E (6AT) models, so like other RX-8 specials, this is all paint, accessories, and trim. It sure looks nice, though. Complete details are in Mazda's press release after the jump. <br /><br />[Source: Mazda]<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition-jdm/low/">Mazda RX-8 Rotary Engine 40th Anniversary edition (JDM)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/rx8_40th_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/rx8_40th-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/rx8_40th-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/rx8_40th-(3)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition-jdm/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/rx8_40th-(4)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/08/japan-gets-mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Japan gets Mazda RX-8 Rotary Engine 40th Anniversary edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/08/japan-gets-mazda-rx-8-rotary-engine-40th-anniversary-edition/">Japan gets Mazda RX-8 Rotary Engine 40th Anniversary edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Aug 2007 21:02:00 EST. Only forty of these cars will be built, with twenty earmarked for the US market and the rest going elsewhere in the world. The anniversary model is finished in a Alubeam paint described as liquid metal. The twin-turbo 6.0L V-12 has 604 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. The CL65 runs from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and back down to a halt in 116 feet. <br /><br />You can get the details on the paint and the rest of the car from the press release after the jump, as well as view some excellent shots in our high-res <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/">gallery</a>.<br /><br /><em>You can view all the debuts and galleries from the New York Auto Show <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-debuts-and-galleries/">here</a>.</em><br /><br />[Source: Mercedes-Benz]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/low/">40th Anniversary AMG CL65</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/ny07_cl63ann---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/ny07_cl63ann---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/ny07_cl63ann---12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/ny07_cl63ann---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/40th-anniversary-amg-cl65/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/ny07_cl63ann---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-amg-cl65-40th-anniversary-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York Auto Show: AMG CL65 40th Anniversary Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-amg-cl65-40th-anniversary-edition/">New York Auto Show: AMG CL65 40th Anniversary Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2007 15:44:00 EST. The CL65 AMG, arriving fall '07, receives the 6.0L biturbo V12 thrust carnival found in it's S-Class AMG cousin. This is a perfectly good thing, as the powerplant is good for 612 horses and a tire liquefying 738 lb-ft of torque. 62 miles per hour arrives in 4.4 seconds -- no small feat, given the CL's 4,900-lb curb weight. Those kind of numbers are usually reserved for aftermarket tuning houses whose upgraded machinery costs a <em>lot</em> more than the factory AMG cars.<br /><br />The CL65 AMG debut coincides with AMG's 40th anniversary, and, as such, a special (and very limited) edition is available. Only forty CL65 "40th Anniversary" cars will be built, and each one is finished in liquid-metallic-looking Alubeam paint, which has previously appeared on Mercedes-Benz show cars only. Inside, diamond-patterned quilted leather, an Alcantara headliner, and edition-specific trim such as embossed "V12" headrest logos and carbon fiber accents round out the package. The rest of the car features everything you expect from AMG, including the tasteful aero kit and big split-spoke wheels. If you can't afford an SLR (not many can), this big coupe may well be the next best thing you can drive out of a Mercedes dealership. <br /><br /><em>Press release after the jump.</em><br /><br />[Source: Mercedes-Benz]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mercedes-benz-cl-65-amg/low/">2008 Mercedes-Benz CL 65 AMG</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mercedes-benz-cl-65-amg/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/cl_65_hi_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mercedes-benz-cl-65-amg/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/cl_65_hi_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mercedes-benz-cl-65-amg/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/cl_65_hi_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mercedes-benz-cl-65-amg/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/cl_65_hi_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mercedes-benz-cl-65-amg/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/cl_65_hi_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/29/new-york-preview-mercedes-benz-cl65-amg/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York Preview: Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/29/new-york-preview-mercedes-benz-cl65-amg/">New York Preview: Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2007 12:32:00 EST. Business is so good that the company that Carroll built has opened a new Shelby Modification Center at its Las Vegas HQ where it plans to offer unique and limited edition upgrade packages for Mustang owners. The first will be the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/04/sema-shelby-gt-h-convertible-concept/">Shelby GT-H Convertible</a> we showed you earlier and it's being immediately followed by the 40th Anniversary Package for Shelby GT500 Mustangs.<br /><br />GT500 owners can drop their car off in Vegas at Shelby's mod center where it will receive a host of visual and performance mods to make it even more powerful and exclusive than when it left the factory floor. Exterior mods include a carbon fiber lower front fascia splitter and mirror covers, a lighter aluminum hood with grille inserts, "Shelby" lettering on the rear deck, those cool sequential taillamps, front and rear brake ducts, special Anniversary striping for the convertible models, and those sharp 20-inch American Racing Shelby Razor wheels in black. <br /><br />The 40th Anniversary package also improves the GT500's performance with the addition of a Shelby Signature Borla exhaust that allows the Mustang's motor to exhale with less impedance. While Shelby didn't go so far as addressing the GT500's biggest fault, it's weight, it has added a more capable Eibach coilover suspension that's adjustable for street or strip, as well as larger anti-roll bars. <br /><br />SEMA saw Shebly unveil the GT-H Convertible Concept as well as announce this GT500 40th Anniversary Package.
