The third round of the Autobacs Super GT series wrapped up last weekend at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, and while the race was plenty entertaining, the on-track action got started long before the green flag waved. Event organizers got bunch of exotic cars together for a special pre-race parade lap. Unfortunately, it looks like not everyone was paying attention when traffic bowed up. The driver of a Porsche Cayman S managed to punt the Ferrari 360 Modena ahead of him into a Ferrari California (the fan reaction is great). We can imagine that the Ferrari owners had a few words for the wayward Porsche driver.

There aren't too many details available on the incident, but we'd have a hard time imagining that anyone was injured from such a low-speed impact. If only the same could be said for the Porsche pilot's ego. Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself.
Continue reading Porsche Cayman causes three-car pileup in parade of exotics

Porsche Cayman causes three-car pileup in parade of exotics originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 26 Jun 2011 19:01:00 EST.
Are you playing Speed's Online Fantasy Bid Game? If not, this is the perfect chance to start, as it's just about to hit the auction block - Bid away, you could end up winning a prize, such as an Apple iPad. These Ferrari 360s can typically be had for anywhere from $75,000 to $95,000... but this is Mr. Hendrick's personal low-mileage car and it's on the Barrett-Jackson stage, so our guess is that a $100,000+ winning bid is certainly possible.

With that out of the way, let's take a look at this particular machine. Saying that Rick Hendrick owns a couple of cars is like saying the crowd at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson auction likes to throw back a couple of drinks. As an auction night marches on, the bartenders tip jars fill up faster and prices start to climb. Rick Hendrick is hoping they don't cut anyone off because a few of his cars will be rolling across the stage... including his 2002 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 Spider.

Looking splendid in its traditional red paint, the drop-top Italian sports car shows just 1,936 miles on the odometer. Only 379 convertible paddle-shift cars were built and this one was kept inside when the weather was anything other than sunny. We're guessing it drove it a little more aggressively than he plans to drive his new Chevrolet Volt.

Ferrari hasn't forgotten what Dan Cawley, of Cheadle, Manchester did to its black beauty, and the Italian supercar maker is suing the Brit for infringing on its trademark. According to lawyers, Ferrari feels cutting the 360 Modena in half and turning it into a limo no longer makes it a Ferrari. Under the terms of the lawsuit, Cawley has 14 days to remove the Ferrari badging or he'll have to go toe to toe with the prancing horse's legal department.

While it ticks us off that a company would have the cajones to sue someone for modifying a vehicle that the person paid a lot of money to own, Mr. Cawley almost deserves the legal headache. Ferrari may be confident that it'll win the suit, but anybody with the funding to buy a supercar, cut it in half, and add 9.5 feet of carbon fiber body panels probably has the resources to put up a pretty good fight. We reposted the video of the half-finished stretch 360 Modena after the jump.

[Source: The Times]
Continue reading Mess with the Ferarri and we'll take our prancing horse back

Mess with the Ferarri and we'll take our prancing horse back originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 08:02:00 EST. A short time later they had relieved a Highgate Village residence of one silver Ferrari 360 Modena.

The Ferrari was reported stolen and the underaged GTA artists soon found themselves being chased by police. An eyewitness who saw the 360 fly past him guessed that the car had to be going around 100 miles per hour. That speed was reduced to zero moments later when the Ferrari and a light post tried to become one. The car, seen at right, did not take it well.

The two hooligans responsible for punching the car's ticket to the Scuderia in the Sky escaped with a few scrapes and scratches. They fled the scene on foot but were later picked up by the authorities and arraigned in Youth Court.

Despite the pickle in which the two little delinquents find themselves, they can take some pride in one thing: the little joyride demonstrated that their driving skills are at least equal to those of some Enzo drivers.

[Source: Tottenham Journal]

Hide the Enzo!
