Nissan has released its pricing for the model-year 2014 GT-R, including the new Track Edition of Godzilla. The 2014 Nissan GT-R Premium will now command an MSRP of $99,590, while the Black Edition will go for $109,300 and the new Track Edition will ask $115,710 (*not including a $1,000 destination and handling charge for all models).

Nissan calls the GT-R Track Edition its most exclusive model, which makes sense as it will be limited to just 150 examples for the US market. The competition-ready Track Edition gets Bilstein DampTronic shocks and revised spring rates; all chosen after more development work by Nissan engineers at the Nürburgring. (Good work, if you can get it.) A carbon fiber rear spoiler and six-spoke black wheels come with the package, as do blue-trimmed, high-grip front seats inside. To save weight, the car's rear seats have been deleted in this model.

Nissan is adding yet another tier to the GT-R hierarchy for 2014 with the GT-R Track Edition. Debuting at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, the bruiser ditches its back seat in the quest for a lower curb weight, and a set of more seriously bolstered front buckets keep occupants planted once the going gets twisty. The Nürburgring-developed Track Edition offers an integrated carbon fiber front splitter with brake cooling ducts as well as an even harder-core suspension. Engineers swapped the stock bits for special Bilstein DampTronic shocks and paired them with more aggressive springs.

The engine still delivers 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque and still relies on the split-second quickness of the standard GT-R's six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Expect to see just 150 examples of the 2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition land on American shores starting this May. In the interim, check out the full press release below for more information.
Continue reading 2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition loses rear seats, gains performance

2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition loses rear seats, gains performance originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 07 Feb 2013 11:21:00 EST.
Another year, another price hike for the ridiculously awesome Nissan GT-R. When the GT-R was introduced for the 2008 model year, it had a starting price of $69,850, increasing steadily each year up to $96,820 for 2013, and now Nissan has announced that the 2014 GT-R will have a base sticker price of $99,590 (*not including the destination charge, which has not been announced yet).

More than just a simple price hike, the 2014 GT-R gets some upgrades, continuing the model's other longstanding tradition - continuous improvement. While there has been no increase in power, Nissan says the 545-horsepower, twin-turbo V6 now has better response in its mid- and upper-rpm ranges. Nissan has also improved the car's handling, giving it different shock absorbers, springs and a reworked front anti-roll bar, along with "increased body rigidity," though it doesn't specify how the latter is accomplished. The changes are said to lower the coupe's center of gravity and further improve its (already spectacular) handling. A few styling tweaks include the addition of a Premium Interior Package offering hand-stitched red leather seats, a color pattern for the steering wheel on the $109,300 GT-R Black Edition and an engraved aluminum plate showing the owner who built their car's engine.

Along with the announcement of the 2014 GT-R, Nissan also released details for the 2014 Murano CrossCabriolet. The big - but not surprising - news is that Nissan has lowered the price of its slow-selling crossover convertible to $41,995, representing a price drop of just over $2,500. Aside from price, model year changes include two new exterior colors and redesigned 20-inch wheels.

It is fitting to greet the 2014 Nissan GT-R the same way Captain Jack Sparrow greeted the Kraken in Pirates of the Caribbean: "'Allo, beastie." It's a matter of very minor tune-up for the monster, though, the 2014 GT-R moving things on by just couple of degrees or so.

Performance responsiveness has been finessed with new fuel injectors and a new oil baffle pan, and each hand-built engine gets a plaque with the builder's name. Nissan says the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 for 2014 gets injected with 15 more horsepower and 15 more pound-feet of torque, but the 545 hp and 463 lb-ft are the same as the 2013 model listed on Nissan's web site. Compared to 2012, however, both numbers are up by 15.

It's love-it-or-else looks are unchanged, but inside, the Premium model gets revised color and stitching; the Black Edition gets new accents and the option of a Premium Interior Package with Red Amber color semi-aniline leather. Nissan hasn't mentioned any price increases - the 2013 models came in at $96,820 for the Premium and $106,320 for the Black Edition, plus $1,000 for destination and handling.

It hits dealerships in January of next year. It's in our gallery of high-res photos right now.
2014 Nissan GT-R raises the stakes by just a few pennies originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 16:59:00 EST.
Nissan has released full details on the 2014 GT-R for the US market. For the next model year, the supercar will continue to offer buyers a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6, though final output will stay at 545 horsepower. There is a jump in mid-range torque, however, courtesy of a new intake and optimized exhaust for an engine that breathes easier than before. Engineers claim to have made substantial revisions to the chassis to increase rigidity, and the 2014 GT-R now boasts revised high-rpm throttle response courtesy of a new set of fuel injectors.

The Nissan GT-R will keep its six-speed dual-clutch transmission for 2014, though the suspension has received a minor touch up to improve high-speed handling. Expect to find a new anti-roll bar up front as well as revised spring and damper rates on all four corners. Tires and brakes remain unchanged for the new model year.

As another model year approaches for the Nissan GT-R, another round of improvements are being made. Rather than simply bumping up the horsepower, Nissan has decided to make refining changes to its supercar, which was recently unveiled in JDM spec for the 2013 model year.

Rather than milking more power out of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6, Nissan fine-tuned the engine with new injectors for quicker response, a baffle added in the oil pan to maintain constant oil pressure during enthusiastic driving and an improved turbo bypass valve for better acceleration at higher speeds. Nissan also optimized the car's handling potential by giving it a lower center of gravity, new shocks and stabilizers, and reinforcements in the dash giving the car a more rigid structure. Finally, the Premium Edition model adds a new Semiarinin leather and will even offer custom colors for the interior.

We've already seen a left-hand drive GT-R testing at the Nürburgring, so we will likely see these changes in the US for the 2014 model year, where it will be interesting to see whether or not the car's price will finally break into the six-figure range. The 2013 GT-R goes on sale in Japan later this month, but we'll have to wait until at least January to see the updated car here.

Every year since the Nissan GT-R was released it has either gotten more powerful or more expensive (or both), and the 2014 model year looks to be more of the same. Some new spy photos have surfaced showing the 2014 GT-R testing around the Nürburgring. While details on the new Nissan are a bit scarce, we can't help but wonder whether this will be the GT-R to break the 600-horsepower mark and the six-figure price tag.

According to the Godzilla fans at the North American GT-R Owners Club forum, this car is performing tire tests. The site also makes mention of numerous interior upgrades for the GT-R, including a two-tone steering wheel and red leather seats.

Based on the black tape found on this tester's front and rear fascias, we see that Nissan may be planning some mild styling and/or aerodynamic changes for the car as well.
2014 Nissan GT-R spied testing at Nürburgring originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 16:32:00 EST.
