If you want a new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette but can't quite save up enough pennies for the monthly payment, we have good news for you. Toymaker New Bright has pulled the covers off of its 1:8 scale remote-controlled version of the American sports car. Complete with a very detailed interior and LED headlights, this large-scale R/C is as close as most of us will ever come to having one of the menacing Chevrolet models to call our very own. New Bright still hasn't released pricing or availability, but word has it the coupe should hit the market soon.

Right now, it appears as if the C7 will hit shelves in Torch Red, though we don't know if other colors are planned as well. The good news is that New Bright isn't exactly turning its back on the old C6 - representatives say the company will continue to make its popular C6R racecar for those who prefer round taillights.
New Bright creating exclusive 1:8 scale radio-controlled C7 Corvette originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 17:45:00 EST.
Where else would you expect the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to show up first? Although this time it isn't exactly in Jay Leno's Garage, Leno instead playing an away game at Brown's Classic Auto in Scottsdale, Arizona. Nor does Leno drive the car, instead taking an 11-minute walkaround of the new American sports car with General Motors design head Ed Welburn, the same man who recently brought by a string of classic Corvettes to the talk show host's California compound.

It is, admittedly, a love-fest for the American sports car now featuring 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, but one that also features admissions about previous Corvette seats like "they were kinda rough," and the explanation that labeling the coupe "Stingray" means not having to call it "the base Corvette." On top of that, Welburn also explains the proper application of the term "dashboard." You can watch it all in the video below.
Continue reading 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette wastes no time zooming into Jay Leno's Garage

2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette wastes no time zooming into Jay Leno's Garage originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 24 Jan 2013 12:45:00 EST.
2013 is shaping up to be a frantic year for Chevrolet, with over a dozen reveals and launches on its calendar. New iterations of the most financially and emotionally important vehicles to the brand are launching little more than a few weeks apart - the 2014 Silverado (financially) and the 2014 Corvette (emotionally). Better than any other models, these two lines form the bedrock for the Bowtie's identity and bookend its portfolio. The pickup is the backbone of the brand's profits (and indeed, those of General Motors) and the Corvette is its spiritual core and flagship.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray will slay a few sacred cows.

It's fair to say that upon first impression, the new Silverado didn't exactly bowl over the assembled media - or the Autoblog commenteriat - with what many see as largely incremental improvements. (This, at a time when rivals are rewriting the book on what it means to be a full-size pickup). By contrast, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will slay a few sacred cows along the way to what is its arguably its biggest model-over-model change in decades. And at least at first glance, the Vette appears all the better for it.

We'll get to the specifics of its genetic makeup and appearance in a minute, but for now, you'll want to focus on these key bits: The all-new LT1 small-block V8 holds on to the same 6.2-liter displacement as the C6, here producing 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque backed by either a seven-speed manual or a six-speed paddleshift automatic. And although GM has yet to release the car's weight (we only know it won't be under 3,000 pounds as previously rumored), it's promising a better power-to-weight ratio than the Porsche 911 Carrera and Audi R8. In fact, Chevy pledges the C7 will run from 0-60 in less than four seconds and Z51 Performance Package examples will achieve cornering grip of over one g right out of the box. Further, 60-0 braking distances are said to be consistent with that of the outgoing Grand Sport and so are its lap times - impressive for a standard model.
Continue reading 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Everything there is to know [w/video]

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Everything there is to know [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 13 Jan 2013 19:00:00 EST.
We're mere days from the official unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, and General Motors has released yet another teaser video of the car. We've already seen clips highlighting the machine's interior and digital gauges as well as what went into bringing the coupe from concept to reality. The latest video spends a second focusing on manufacturing and follows the chassis down the assembly line for a spell. From the first weld to the marrying of the body shell to the driveline, the video below gives us our first glimpse at the innards of the C7.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will bow on Sunday, January 13. Stay tuned for official photos and information, as well as live shots from the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. In the interim, check out the latest teaser for yourself.
Continue reading Fourth Corvette C7 teaser vid focuses on manufacturing

Fourth Corvette C7 teaser vid focuses on manufacturing originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 10 Jan 2013 12:30:00 EST.
What looks to be an official General Motors service bulletin for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette has leaked out onto the internet thanks to spy shooter Chris Doane's Facebook page. The image above clearly shows what we assume is the nose of the next-generation sports car - more specifically, the front brake cooling deflector kit installation information. From the line drawing, it appears as if the 2014 Corvette will feature a familiar front profile with tall fenders that slope inward to the hood. Speaking of the hood, aggressive air inlets dominate the bodywork toward the front. The car's trademark gills look to have grown in size as well, with a dramatic inset tucked just behind the front wheel well.

From what we can see, the 2014 Corvette will abandon its low and wide headlamp arrays for more vertical pieces that extend well into the lower fascia. The face looks good, even in black and white. And while there seems to be more than a little Ferrari influence in the design, you certainly won't hear us complain.
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette peeks its nose out from an unlikely corner originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 17 Dec 2012 15:58:00 EST.
Critics have long taken delight in bashing the Chevrolet Corvette for the sports car's sub-par cabin execution, but the latest teaser for the C7 seems to indicate the next generation machine will bow with much nicer materials. The quick teaser video below shows workers whipping around massive swaths of leather, stitching hides together with contrasting thread and plenty of carbon fiber trim. This is all excellent news. The latest teaser joins a spate of videos showing snippets of the upcoming halo car from General Motors.

We've already seen what it took to bring the car from concept to reality and what the vehicle's gauges will look like, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to get our eyes on the finished product. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is set to receive its world debut on January 13 at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Stay tuned. In the interim, check out the latest teaser video below below.
Continue reading Chevrolet's latest C7 Corvette trailer focuses on fixing an old ail: the interior

Chevrolet's latest C7 Corvette trailer focuses on fixing an old ail: the interior originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 17 Dec 2012 14:00:00 EST. Even America's sports car, the Corvette, is not exempt, with CAFE regulations clouding the view inside the 'Vette Nation's crystal ball.

Motor Trend, commenting on the C7 Corvette's delayed arrival, has said that the new coupe won't appear until the 2014 model year at the earliest. The mid-engined route has also been scrapped, since it would simply cost too much to re-engineer the entire car for the purpose of easier integration of fuel saving tech like cylinder deactivation.

That means a six-cylinder is still being talked about -- by GM outsiders only, at this point -- as an option for the C7. If we take the Camaro as an example, that 2014 introduction date could mean late 2012, but that still only gives you four years to mentally prepare for a budget- and economy-minded V6 Corvette. Get cracking.

[Source: Motor Trend]

No future for the mid-engine Corvette originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 14:28:00 EST.
