BMW confirms 1 Series Limited Edition for Detroit reveal

BMW is headed to the 2013 Detroit Auto Show with a new Limited Edition Lifestyle package for the company's 1 Series Coupe and Convertible models. The coupe kit is available in exclusive Mineral White metallic paint or two other colors, along with 18-inch alloy wheels. By comparison, the droptop receives a brown soft top with silver pigment. Indoors, brown leather with white contrast stitching lines the cabin of both bodystyles, and drivers will enjoy a matching leather sports steering wheel. The dash, meanwhile, gets trimmed in Fineline Stream wood.

So far, there's no word on any actual performance modifications, or how much the Limited Edition Lifestyle package will set 1 Series buyers back, but we should hear more when the package debuts next month.

BMW will also pull the sheets back on the Concept 4 Series Coupe, M6 Gran Coupe and a modestly revised 2014 Z4 at the Detroit Auto Show. Stay tuned for more information. In the interim, you can check out the full press release below.

Spy Shots: BMW 1 Series frolics in the snow

The BMW 1 Series may have undergone a very slight refresh for the 2012 model year, but it appears that engineers are already hard at work for the next-generation of BMW's current entry-level machine. Here, we see a five-door hatchback version out testing in the snow-laden cold, complete with a set of chains on its rear tires.

Though it appears that the size of the 1 Series hasn't changed much, we can see that the front fascia has been slightly redesigned, probably taking on a shape more akin to what's been done to the larger 5 Series sedan. This prototype is still pretty heavily camouflaged, so it's hard to tell exactly what design tweaks are in store.

As for what's under the hood, your guess is as good as ours. However, BMW's latest commitment to four-cylinder turbocharged engines leads us to believe that the base car will have four-pot power, while the top-end 135i will still likely use the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that we currently enjoy.
