The automaker can tease us all they want with word of a "new compact sports car," but we know what the score is: the new Cayman is on the way, and we're ready for it.

That said, no one has seen what the next-generation of the sub-911 coupe looks like... that is, until now. Photos of the new Cayman, taken by Instagram user "Frod1966," have popped up online. The hardtop Porsche was photographed in a warehouse of sorts, and still has the packing wraps on the headlights and taillights. It can be seen next to a 911 Coupe, so perhaps this duo is, in fact, on its way to the LA Show?

While design elements like the teardrop roof and pronounced rear fenders are retained from the outgoing model, the new Cayman features updates shared with the latest Boxster, such as the gaping air intake ahead of the rear wheels and a spoiler that melds seamlessly into the taillights.

While the base model of the Cayman will likely get the 265-horsepower 2.7-liter flat-six engine, the dual center tailpipes and larger front air intakes suggest that this may be the Cayman S, complete with a 3.4-liter boxer-six making 315 horsepower. But for now, its purely conjecture; you'll know for sure when we bring you coverage from the 2012 LA Auto Show in just two weeks!
2013 Porsche Cayman spotted in the wild originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 16 Nov 2012 15:45:00 EST.
Ever since the 2013 Porsche Boxster debuted earlier this year, we've been wondering when its hardtop sister, the Cayman, would show up. According to Automotive News, we'll be waiting for many more months, as Porsche is reportedly set to hold off on debuting the Cayman until the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Much like the Boxster, the big changes for the new Cayman will be a reduction in weight and a focus on better fuel economy while not sacrificing performance. We fully expect both of the Boxster's flat-six engines to carry over largely unchanged, likely putting out 265 horsepower in its base configuration and 315 hp in the Cayman S.

We ought to have the official details ahead of the car's official unveiling, but until then, buckle in - it's still a long way 'til November.
Next Porsche Cayman earmarked for Los Angeles debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 20 Jun 2012 09:13:00 EST.
Some automakers roll out a new model and that's pretty much it, while for others, a new model's introduction is just the starting point. Porsche most definitely falls in the latter category. When a new 911 rolls out, for example, you can bet there will be a dozen or more versions to follow. A new Boxster? Slap a roof on it and in another year or so you've got a new Cayman. So it only stands to reason that the German automaker would do the same with its more family-oriented offerings, the Panamera and Cayenne.

Automobile magazine's European bureau reports that, when Porsche rolls out a restyled Panamera next year, the four-door model will yield the variants that the current model does not. That will likely include a long-wheelbase model for the Chinese market, as well as a potential shooting brake and a possible four-seat cabriolet.

A slant-back version of the Cayenne is also said to be in the works to take on the BMW X6, with a new Cayman to put a roof over the new Boxster's head later this year and a generous array of 911 variants to come out year after year. Couple all those spin-offs with the new Macan crossover, the Pajun (baby Panamera) and a pair of new supercars (918 and 960) to slot in above the 911 range and they're suddenly looking very busy at Zuffenhausen over the next few years.
Porsche gearing up to roll out the variants originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 19 Apr 2012 09:00:00 EST.
