An alleged US order guide for the 2014 Jaguar F-Type has made its way online courtesy of the good people at F-TypeClub.com, documenting everything from wheel color options to special equipment packages. From the looks of things, buyers will be able to choose from a total of eight wheel designs in sizes ranging from 18 inches on the base model all the way up to 20 inches. While most of those rollers are available in either silver or black finishes, the 20-inch blade-style wheels are not only forged, but come with carbon-fiber trim. Fancy.

Depending on trim, F-Type buyers will get to choose between two types of seat, including a set of performance-style 14-way power adjustable thrones, complete with seat belts in black, red or tan. Other fun tricks include available power folding side view mirrors and a 770-watt, 14-speaker Meridian sound system.

The F-Type will offer owners a rash of option packages that bundle popular equipment choices together, including three premium packages and two performance packages. There are also a number of aesthetic packages to be had, including a Black Package that swaps the standard grille, hood louvers, splitters, vents, roll hoops and rear valance for gloss black bits. Jaguar hasn't said one word about specific options pricing, however, model pricing is set to start from $69,000, and there's a rudimentary configurator already online. Check out the full order guide by clicking through the gallery, and be sure to head over to F-TypeClub.com for more information.

Jaguar F-Type US order guide loose online originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Feb 2013 15:45:00 EST.
For every car, there is a passionate group of fans who love it, and the F-Type already has a few million rabid followers. These are fabulous things, sports cars, and we're very happy that Jaguar is making one again. Finally. (Before you start relishing the prospect of correcting us, the XK is really a grand tourer, not a sports car.)

The main question, however, will be whether someone in a position to buy a lifestyle-enhancing yet impractical F-Type will do so in the face of more established competitors from Porsche, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW. The last time Jaguar built a true two-seater sports car (1974 E-Type; the last of the XJ220 limited run in 1994 doesn't count in this league), most of today's new buyers were too young or may not yet have been born. At any rate, the F-Type has a lot of work to do for the brand beyond just selling itself.

Jaguar inviting us to Wales for an early ride in both the 375-horsepower F-Type S and 488-hp V8 S can be interpreted in many ways. Perhaps they want our opinions, as they are now in the final phase of pre-production testing. Or maybe they wish to stretch out coverage by key media outlets instead of depending entirely on the first drive "big bang" that will happen shortly. It's a little of both, we'd guess. The inevitable comparison tests in early summer should be quite revealing, as well.
Continue reading First Ride: 2014 Jaguar F-Type [w/video]

First Ride: 2014 Jaguar F-Type [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 08 Feb 2013 11:57:00 EST.
What do you do when you're an automaker with an all-new and brand-defining sports car, one of them with a supercharged V8 cranking out 495 horsepower? You let proven race drivers test them out on track and on the road.

And what do you do if you're Jaguar and you're in that situation? Why, naturally, you make a video of it. That's how we get footage of racers Martin Brundle, Justin Bell and Christian Danner being choppered into the UK's Snetterton track to test the V6-equipped Jaguar F-Type S prototype. Then when they're finished with kerb-lined apexes, they take the V8 S prototype out onto the roads to run it through hedge-lined apexes.

According to one of them, "very fast, very nimble, great engine" is what will soon be headed our way. Check it out in the video below.
Continue reading Jaguar lets first outsiders drive new F-Type

Jaguar lets first outsiders drive new F-Type originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 17 Dec 2012 16:31:00 EST.
Jaguar is working up a short film to coincide with the US debut of the company's new F-Type. Desire will feature actor Damian Lewis in the lead role opposite Jordi Molla as the main villain in the story. The whole of the action will take place against the picturesque backdrop of the Chilean desert with filming starting early next month. According to Jaguar, the story will follow Lewis as he plays Clark, a man who delivers cars for living. Things get exciting when he crosses paths with a young woman played by Shannyn Sossamon.

With music by Lana Del Rey and some serious production value, Desire sounds keen to take its place among great automotive advertising short films like the BMW Driver series. Jaguar has released a quick teaser, which you can check out by heading over to the F-Type site. You may also take a peek at the full press release below for more information. Expect to see the film debut early next year.
Continue reading Jaguar producing short film starring Damian Lewis from Homeland [w/video]

Jaguar producing short film starring Damian Lewis from Homeland [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 30 Nov 2012 08:31:00 EST.
We already know that the 2013 Jaguar F-Type will be ditching the rotary shifter used in current Jaguar models, but Autocar is reporting that the F-Type will also be setting another trend in the British automaker's lineup by introducing a new manual transmission. In addition to the F-Type, this gearbox could also make its way into the XF.

Autocar spoke with Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar global brand director, who stated that a true sports car needs a manual gearbox, and it sounds like a three-pedal transmission with "a minimum of six speeds" will make it into the Jaguar lineup soon.

"Sports cars need a manual transmission for sports credibility," Hallmark said.

The report does suggest that a it will be at least a year before the F-Type debuts with a manual, but it will be the first car since the X-Type sedan to offer more than just an automatic transmission. On the automatic front, Hallmark said that future Jaguar and Land Rover models will use the latest nine-speed automatic ZF transmission.
Jaguar to bring back manual transmissions starting with F-Type originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 09 Nov 2012 09:33:00 EST.
If you've found yourself on the fence between a 2013 Jaguar F-Type powered by a supercharged V6 or the model with a more potent supercharged V8, we have just the thing for you. Jaguar has worked up a quick 30-second video with little more than audio from the two convertibles. On the first pass, viewers get an earful of that blown 3.0-liter V6 at full whine, though there's no telling whether the machine packs 340 horsepower or the 380 hp found in the middle-child F-Type S. Either way, there's no denying just how potent the newest member of the Jaguar family sounds.

And then there's that supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with its 495 horses. At wide-open throttle, the machine sounds like it's hell-bent on sucking down the world one yellow line at a time. Check it out in Jag's video below. Just make sure you turn up the volume.
Continue reading Jaguar plays up sound differences between V6 and V8 F-Type

Jaguar plays up sound differences between V6 and V8 F-Type originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 30 Oct 2012 16:57:00 EST.
Porsche's heart lives in the rear end of the 911. The heart of Mercedes-Benz resides more in the brand values of the Three-Pointed Star than any one model. Mini is defined by petite packages wrapped in giant amounts of sass. Since the end of the Series III XJ in 1992, however, what has represented the unique and irreducible definition of Jaguar?

We're certain Jaguar is happy that the above question is moot, thanks to the arrival of the F-Type at the Paris Motor Show. Jaguar brand manager Adrian Hallmark tells Autocar that the $69,875 convertible is "the core of our range, and from now on it is our orientation point" - it is the E-Type for our times, and will lead the way for Jaguars to come. We don't know fully what that means yet; until we drive it, it isn't clear if the champagne and confetti party of the F-Type's introduction will end in afterglow or hangover. Nevertheless, there is at least a direction now, which is a major waypoint.

It will start with - surprise, surprise - a small sedan and a utility vehicle. We've heard for ages that a BMW 3 Series rival had been dancing across drawing boards, and after years of equivocation, it looks like an SUV/CUV may have finally been acceded to. Hallmark tells Autocar that "Whatever we do will be driven by the three pillars of our brand: innovation, design and performance leadership," by which he presumably means "driven by the huge sales opportunities and cha-ching!" We don't blame him; the market segment is hurtling in that direction and leaving all those pounds on the table would be something the old Jaguar would do. Obviously, those days are over. All hail the F-Type.
What's next for Jaguar after F-Type?
Jaguar has laid down a price tag on its sultry new aluminum-chassis'd convertible, the 2013 F-Type. Buyers looking to bring one of the sports cars home will face down an MSRP of $69,000 (*plus a $875 destination fee). That price tag includes a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine good for 340 horsepower mated to an eight-speed ZF paddleshift automatic. Step up to the $81,000* F-Type S, and the same engine serves up an additional 40 horsepower, active exhaust, a mechanical limited-slip differential, uprated brakes and launch control, among other niceties. The extra grunt shoots the convertible to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds (down from 5.1) and increases the roadster's top speed by 10 mph to 171 mph.

If you'd rather have a V8, the Jaguar F-Type V8 S boasts the company's delectable supercharged 5.0-liter V8 and can be had for $92,000 plus delivery. With 495 horses, the top-tier F can click off the 0-60 run in 4.2 seconds on its way to a 182 mph top end. Start saving your pennies. In the meantime, check out the machine's debut video below as well as the full press blast. If you're feeling a bit more masochistic (or a bit better about your finances than we are), you can head over to the Jaguar site to configure your own F-Type.
Continue reading 2013 Jaguar F-Type configurator launched, priced from $69,000* [w/video]

2013 Jaguar F-Type configurator launched, priced from $69,000* [w/video] originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 01 Oct 2012 11:31:00 EST.

"We're not worshipping the ashes of our ancestors here."

Jaguar finally has its much anticipated - and much leaked - new sports car. Revealed at the Musée Rodin Museumin Paris ahead of the Paris Motor Show, the rakish convertible picks up the long-dormant mantle of the legendary E-Type, but it isn't a retro-retread. Autoblog was invited to England earlier this month for a hush-hush preview of the F-Type, where Jaguar Vehicle Line Director Ian Hoben assured us that "We're not worshipping the ashes of our ancestors here." While Jag has offered the larger XK grand tourer for years, it hasn't really fielded a new sports car in 50 years. And as Hoben points out, "For us not to be there [the segment] seems as wrong as Ferrari or Porsche not building sports cars."

The new all-aluminum F-Type is a strict two-seat affair, none of the leather-wrapped and seatbelt-equipped parcel shelves of the XK here. Available in three trims, F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type V8 S, the baby Jag will offer one of three powertrains, a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 (380 hp / 339 lb-ft.), or a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 (495 hp / 460 lb-ft). The sole transmission at launch will be ZF's ubiquitous eight-speed automatic, with paddles and a more conventional gearshift lever in favor of the rotary selector of recent fame. Jag won't confirm it, but we suspect a manual transmission will be made available in a year's time, possibly on a harder-core R model. In its top specification, Jag promises a 0-60 dash of 4.2 seconds and a limited top speed of 186 mph. The mid-level V6 S does the deed in 4.8 seconds and taps out at 171 mph, while the 'base' F-Type still runs to 60 in 5.1 seconds and hits a 161-mph vMax. While we have yet to drive them, we have heard the new cars fire up and under power, as the Brits say, they sound "right cracking."
Continue reading Jaguar F-Type heralds return of first new sports car for Leaping Cat in 50 years [UPDATE]

Jaguar F-Type heralds return of first new sports car for Leaping Cat in 50 years [UPDATE] originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 26 Sep 2012 16:32:00 EST.
Just last week, we got our first look at what appears to be the production-ready 2013 Jaguar F-Type courtesy of a single leaked image, and now we can see even more of the new Jaguar thanks to a handful of new pictures from Autoweek.nl. The new shots show the droptop from all angles and, just as importantly, they give us our first look at the interior.

As nice as this car is from the front, the rear view of the 2013 F-Type is simply stunning. As we suspected, the F-Type's styling follows very closely to the 2011 Jaguar C-X16 Concept (minus the hardtop roof, of course). We do get our first look at some of the production F-Type's details such as the Aston Martin-style flush door handles and Jaguar's leaper logo above the center brake light. We expect the F-Type will be offered with multiple engine options, and while these shots show the car with a center-mounted exhaust and a more conventional quadruple-outlet configuration, we don't know which is layout is for the V6 or the expected V8.

Inside, one of the biggest surprises is that the F-Type will use a conventional gearshift lever on the two-pedal transmission rather than the round dial selector used on all other current Jaguar models.

We only have to wait a couple more days to see the 2013 F-Type in person at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and get some high-res images, but until then, enjoy these shots of Jaguar's hot new roadster.
More Jaguar F-Type images leak onto web before Paris debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 11:30:00 EST.
The first test the Jaguar F-Type has to pass will be administered at the Paris Motor Show, and while we've seen its skin, we still can't say for sure what's under it. After that, when drivers get behind the wheel, the examinations get a lot harder. Ten-hour-per-day cramming sessions have been held at the Nardo test circuit and, again, the Nürburgring to tweak performance aspects like handling at VMax, cooling, track DSC and the e-diff.

Jaguar says the F-Type is a "thoroughbred enthusiast sports car," and after all the years we've been waiting for it, the company doesn't want to be wrong. The two videos below, "Fierce" and "Focused," take high-speed looks at what is going into the convertible cat, and we even see the needle swing past 170 mph. Needless to say, we're looking most forward to finding these things out for ourselves.
Continue reading Jaguar works out F-Type at Nardo and the 'Ring

Jaguar works out F-Type at Nardo and the 'Ring originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 24 Sep 2012 19:30:00 EST.
The car you see above, ladies and gentlemen, appears to be a leaked image of the Jaguar F-Type. It will get its official debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in a little more than a week, but this lone image was posted to Facebook by well-known spy photographer Chris Doane with the following caption: "Something interesting just popped up in my inbox..."

As you can see, the production F-Type will look very much like the C-X16 Concept that debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, minus that car's fixed hardtop (though Jag is mulling building the F-Type in both hardtop and Roadster configurations).

We're expecting a range of engine options that will include two supercharged V6 options along with "a derivative" of the supercharged 5.0-liter V8.

It's too early to draw any real conclusions about the car's appearance from this single low-res image, but what we see looks pretty good. The car appears small in stature, which is a good thing for a sports car such as this, and there's no mistaking its face and profile for anything but a Jaguar.

Stay tuned for live images and commentary from the car's live debut in Paris. In the meantime, click on the image above for a slightly higher-res version, and feel free to have your say about the new F-Type in the Comments.
Jaguar F-Type leaked ahead of Paris debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 19 Sep 2012 12:55:00 EST.
How can you not be excited to see Jaguar getting back into the sports car business with a modern-day interpretation of the classic E-Type? Well, there is that one little issue with the F-Type powertrain that Jag announced during the Beijing Motor Show. In this day and age, a 380-horsepower V6 just doesn't cut it, supercharged or not. At least not when Mustangs are packing 662 horses.

Yes, we know the horsepower wars have lately gotten out of hand, but if Jaguar wants the F-Type to be taken seriously, it just plain needs a V8. And according to Car and Driver, it's going to be getting one. At least, eventually.

C/D says the F-Type will eventually get a version of Jag's 5.0-liter V8, although it doesn't know which one. Speculation says the supercharged variants in 470- and 550-horsepower states of tune are the most likely, as the base V8 only makes five more horsepower than the planned V6. The report also surmises that the initial roadsters will be six-cylinders when they debut in 2013, with the V8 models appearing further on in the production cycle.
Jaguar confirms V8 option for F-Type originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 01 May 2012 19:00:00 EST.
