The 2013 Audi A3 will be rolling into the Geneva Motor Show next month, but first it went to Russia to get leaked all over the Internet. We saw one angle of it a few days ago, and now we see more of what looks to be a very handsome car. The move to the new MQB platform hasn't altered anything drastically, but revisions in the hatchback's details have made for a more concentrated bearing, with very A1-like appearance.

The interior is practically a throwback to the original Audi TT, with a cleaned-up, minimalist IP sporting a screen atop the dash, the expanse below broken up only by two round vents and HVAC controls below.

The three-door is expected to be followed by variants that include a convertible, five-door and sedan. According to Google's translation of Russian, engine options will include TSFI engines with 122 and 180 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission alongside a seven-speed dual-clutch option.
More pictures of the 2013 Audi A3 say hello to the Internet originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 10:00:00 EST. Word is that a larger, edgier, lower and wider evolution of the bread-and-butter hatch will show up earlier than planned in order to make a better case for itself against an upmarket Polo and to take advantage of cost savings.

The savings will come from the use of VW Group's new modular platform, which could eventually be a workhorse for 60 different models throughout the company's various brands. That would eliminate 16 of the current platforms it needs to use. Sixty might seem like a large number at first, but the new Golf is being prepped to fit new powerplants including electric and Twin Drive, and that will quickly add branches to the family tree.

The interior will be replete with tech as well, with "higher-quality materials" joining an eight-inch touchscreen with iPad-like operability that controls navigation, audio, and Internet access. We've seen a prototype of VW's GLORIA touchscreen system and it should be impressive. A note of caution, though: C/D starts the piece off with the note that VW CEO Martin Winterkorn wants to make VW bigger than Toyota. All we'll say is we know what happened when Toyota wanted the top spot, so please, VW be careful.

Audi A3 - Click above for high-res image gallery

Europeans go crazy for the Volkwagen Golf, but not so much for the Jetta. Like, not crazy at all. Americans, on the other hand, will give props to a hatchback, but what we really love is <strike>big butts and we cannot lie</strike> a trunk in which to put our junk. According to Inside Line, Audi has decided to stop letting its A3 hatchback be a whipping boy while trying to sway American tastes and instead it has committed to bringing us an A3 sedan.

The small sedan is already in the development pipeline and will arrive in the U.S. - its only intended market - in 2012. It is reportedly going be the size of the first-generation Audi A4, the B5 model. That sedan was 178 inches long and 68.2 inches wide, whereas the current A3 hatch is 169 inches long and 69.5 inches wide.

The question is whether the A3 only needs a trunk in order to lure more buyers. The current hatch starts at $27,270. If the Golf and Jetta are taken as examples, there is just $135 difference between the two cars, the Jetta being more expensive. This plan could theoretically work if the A3 sedan is similarly close to the hatch, but somewhere along the way we feel like it will need to shed its image as a gussied-up Golf for sales to really fly.
