<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-nissan-frontier-crew-cab-4x4-review/"><img alt="2012 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2012/12/2012-nissan-frontier-review.jpg" style="margin-top: 4px; width: 628px; margin-bottom: 4px; height: 417px" /></a><br />
<br />
Sometime during the mid '90s, the Big Three stepped up the fullsize truck arms race in a serious way. While <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chrysler/">Chrysler</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/general motors/">General Motors</a> had always fought tooth and nail for every last possible customer, suddenly trucks began evolving into more than just utilitarian work horses. While the old payload and towing one-upmanship continued in earnest, pickup design began swelling with broad grilles, massive wheels and flanks to match. Option sheets suddenly glittered with choices previously confined to luxury vehicles, and MSRPs began covering wide territory as base models got cheaper and upper trims explored new fiscal heights.<br />
<br />
With all of Detroit's resources going to the fullsize game, domestic midsize entries like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ford ranger/">Ford Ranger</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/dodge dakota/">Dodge Dakota</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gmc/canyon/">GMC Canyon</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/chevrolet/colorado/">Chevrolet Colorado</a> were left to rot on the vine. After all, why would buyers want to pony up equivalent cash for a less capable truck? Because, as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/frontier/">2012 Nissan Frontier</a> quietly reminds us, getting a job done is never about having the biggest tool. It's about having the one that's right for the task at hand.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/27/2012-nissan-frontier-crew-cab-4x4-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/27/2012-nissan-frontier-crew-cab-4x4-review/">2012 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 27 Dec 2012 11:59:00 EST. <br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/ranger/">Ford Ranger</a> has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/08/final-ford-ranger-to-be-built-mid-month-already-sold-to-orkin/">finally been shown the door</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/">Nissan</a> apparently wants to seize the opportunity to make its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/frontier/">Frontier</a> the the standout in what remains of the compact pickup truck segment. Though the sun has been setting on the Ranger for some time, it's still outselling the Frontier - even after Nissan kicked up its marketing efforts as a way to grab the real estate <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/ford/">Ford</a> is cedeing by creating the first advertising campaign for the Frontier in four years.<br />
<br />
That's not to say the Frontier is doing poorly; Nissan moved more than 50,000 out the door in 2011. That's 20,000 fewer than the Ranger's 70,000 unit performance, and well behind the 500,000-plus <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/f-series">F-Series pickup</a> models Ford shifts, but the aging Frontier is the popular sister in the Nissan truck family. Just 22,000 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/titan/">Nissan Titan</a> full-size pickups found a home last year, though the latter is another product that's been languishing on the market with little marketing effort behind it. The Frontier might do better without the Ranger around regardless, but a commercial about a snowboarding truck couldn't hurt. Check it out <a href="/2012/01/11/why-has-nissan-started-to-advertise-the-frontier-again-ford-kil/#continued">after the jump</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/11/why-has-nissan-started-to-advertise-the-frontier-again-ford-kil/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Why has Nissan started to advertise the Frontier again? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2012-nissan-titan-appearance-package/"><img alt="2012 Nissan Titan with Sport Appearance Package" class="right border" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/10/2012-nissan-titan-250.jpg" style="margin: 4px 0px; width: 250px; height: 185px; border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; float: right;" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan">Nissan</a> has announced new appearance packages for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/frontier">2012 Frontier</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/titan">Titan</a>. The smaller of the two workhorses will jump into the new model year with a Sport Appearance Package on King Cab and Crew Cab SV iterations. The kit packs 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, as well as a front grille with a Dark Hyper Silver, body-color front and rear bumpers and the Frontier graphic on the vehicle's flanks seen above. The interior gets its fair share of kit as well, with the addition of cloth sport seats, white-faced gauges and a Bluetooth hands-free calling system.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the full-size Titan will receive a Sport Appearance Package of its own, complete with 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a grille dipped in the same finish as the aforementioned Frontier, body-color bumpers all around and a set of black step rails. A handy lockable storage compartment resides inside the bed, and Titan graphics are also part of the party. Inside, the appearance package brings along many of the same tricks as found in the Frontier with captain's chairs embroidered with the Titan logo and white-face gauges.<br />
<br />
If you like the sound of this dance, you can expect to pay $1,190 for the Sport Appearance Package on the Frontier and $2,490 for the garb on the Titan. Hit the jump for the press releases.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/03/nissan-frontier-and-titan-dash-in-with-new-appearance-packages-f/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nissan Frontier and Titan dash in with new appearance packages for 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/03/nissan-frontier-and-titan-dash-in-with-new-appearance-packages-f/">Nissan Frontier and Titan dash in with new appearance packages for 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 03 Oct 2011 13:30:00 EST.
