Settle on buying yourself a Porsche 911 and you've still got a ways to go, narrowing it down to the exact model you want. That's because - with various drivetrain, transmission, body-style, aspirations and other parameters to specify - the iconic rear-engined sports car can be had in about two dozen different variants.

Most of them come straight from the factory, some (like the Speedster and Sport Classic) come from the Exclusive division while others (like the GT3 and GT2 models) are products of the company's motorsport division. But this one comes from a dealership - one specific dealership, in fact.

It's called the Carrera GTS B59 Edition. It's factory-authorized and exclusive to Brumos Porsche of Jacksonville, Florida. It's a tribute model to Hurley Haywood, who took the checkered flag for Porsche at the Daytona 24 Hours four times in the 1970s and once again in '91.

The special neun-elfen starts out with the already-special 911 Carrera GTS, with its 408-horsepower flat-six and Sport Chrono Package Plus, and decks it out in Carrera White with unique blue and red stripes up the side and along the flank, where it highlights the retro manufacturer decal. The door mirrors and 19-inch Fuchs-style wheels are painted black, while inside, the red and blue theme continues with contrasting stitching on the wheel and levers.

Only five examples will be offered exclusively through Brumos Porsche, at a price of $133,540. With those figures, chances are slim that you'll ever see one up close, so better check it out now in the high-res image gallery and the press release after the jump.
Continue reading Brumos Porsche honors Hurley Haywood with exclusive 911 Carrera GTS B59 Edition

Brumos Porsche honors Hurley Haywood with exclusive 911 Carrera GTS B59 Edition originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 18 Aug 2011 14:29:00 EST. Episode #211 of the Autoblog Podcast is here with Chris Shunk, Dan Roth, Zach Bowman and Chris Paukert. We start with the Autoblog Garage and then cover the death of the Cadillac SRX Turbo, rumors of the next generation Subaru Tribeca and Toyota Highlander sharing a platform, Fiat possibly increasing its stake in Chrysler and a quick mention of the changes coming for the Porsche 911 before we respond to your questions and emails. It's a tidy one hour and eighteen minutes this week, thanks for listening!

According to the Porsche, the 4,784-pound, 500-horsepower Porsche Cayenne Turbo gets from zero to sixty in 4.4 seconds. The 3,219-pound, 385-hp 911 Carrera 4S with PDK takes 4.3 seconds to run the same distance. With such remarkably close acceleration times, Autocar wanted to see if the Cayenne Turbo could hang with the 911 around Millbrook's 1.39-kilometer Outer Handling Circuit. The answer: A lot better than expected. Follow the jump to watch Steve Sutcliffe run both Porsches ragged. Top tip, Steve!

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS - Click above to enlarge

We're guessing that as you read this one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is on hold with a Porsche dealer trying to see how much he can get in trade for a 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. With only 500 such models slated to be made, he probably won't get much - and when he pleads, "But my steed destroys human souls!", the dealer will reply, "Ours does, too..."

The 3,020-pound GT2 RS gets 620 twin-turbocharged horses from its 3.6-liter engine, making it the most powerful Porsche you can legally put on the roads. That's 90 more horses pushing 154 pounds less weight than in the previous version, and it gets five percent better fuel economy. Ground control is handled with tires specifically created for the car, carrying it from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.4 seconds. On the one hand, that's 0.3 slower than the Porsche Turbo S; on the other, there's a 205 mph top speed and a 7:18 'Ring time.

Note too the matte carbon fiber bodywork and the black and red Alcantara interior. It'll go on proper show in Moscow later this year, and it'll run $245,000 when deliveries begin in October. Follow the jump for the release, and be on the lookout for three horsemen and a water-cooled boxer...

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S - Click above for high-res image gallery

The wunderkinds in Wiessach have wrought a new head of the family in the form of the 2011 911 Turbo S, the first 911 S model in five years and the first for the 997. In Porsche parlance, the S suffix generally means more power and better handling, and this car appears ready to live up to the badge.

As we surmised last August, the twin-turbo flat-six is boosted to 530 horsepower, though it sips fuel at the same rate as the "base" Turbo's with its 500-horsepower engine. All that power and 516 pound-feet of torque are transferred to all four wheels - now 19 inches in diameter with center locking nuts - through Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox, and a torque vectoring system helps point the car directly where the driver wants it. 0-62 miles per hour should arrive in 3.3 seconds and top speed is pegged at 196 mph. For comparison's sake, the almighty 911 GT2 makes the same amount of horsepower (530), is slower to 62 mph at 3.7 seconds, but beats the new 911 S at the top end with a 204-mph terminal velocity.

Both fixed and folding roof versions of the Turbo S will officially debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month and go on sale in Europe in May. The coupe will cost €173,241 including 19 percent VAT (the actual base price is €145,400), while the Cabriolet goes €184,546, also including the 19 percent VAT (base price €154,900). U.S. market models should follow soon after.

No other automaker subscribes to the "evolution, not revolution" idiom more than Porsche, and the next generation 911 will benefit from yet another styling refresh later this year in the form of some subtly tweaked sheetmetal and a new set of LED indicators that join the current model's daytime running lights.

Although the front-mounted LEDs are the most glaring addition, these newest spy shots hint at slightly reworked front and rear fascias, Panamera-inspired mirrors and the possible addition of a retractable rear spoiler. If we had to guess, we'd expect the newest 911 to debut either at the Geneva Motor Show in March or the Paris show this October, with a few minor mechanical updates and the usual assortment of interior upgrades.

With every iteration of the 911, Porsche makes incremental improvements to its iconic sports car and naturally, the next generation will be no exception.

This latest 911 prototype was caught at the Nurburgring sporting 997 sheetmetal, but it's what's on top and out back that deserves note. A double-bubble roof panel has been fitted, while underneath the rear camouflage is a sizeable wing and additional ducting. Look closely and you'll see a small sill at the base of the rear windscreen that's assumed to be feeding the rear-mounted flat-six - likely necessary keep the boxer cool while Porsche engineers figure out how the new contoured roof affects aerodynamics. If previous reports are to be believed, we can expect the next 911 to debut sometime in 2010, but we wouldn't rule out an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Gallery: Spy Shots: Porsche 911 with double-bubble roof

Spy Shots: Next-gen Porsche 911 sporting double-bubble roof originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 19:44:00 EST. Buy a new Carrera, and within a couple of months there's a new Turbo or GT3 you want more. Wait for the Turbo or GT3 and there's a new GT2 coming out. Wait for the GT2 and already it's outdated because there's a new generation of 911 in the pipeline. And here it is.

Spied while undergoing cold weather testing, the test mule seems to carry a more Cayman-like greenhouse, with a more swept-back windshield and sleeker profile than the traditional upright 911 silhouette. A wider, lower grille appears to cap a longer nose left exposed on this test mule, but the tail is all covered up. Sources suggest the next 911 could to hit the road as early as two and a half years from now as a 2012 model, with a possible debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Follow the link to see the next 911 test mule from all the angles.

[Source: AutoWeek]
Spy Shots: 2012 Porsche 911 in a winter wonderland originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 17:41:00 EST.
