<br />
Japan is back in the supercar race in a major way following the introduction last year of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/gt+r">Nissan GT-R</a> and the addition of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/lfa">Lexus LFA</a> for the 2011 model year. The question now is this: If the $85,000 GT-R is Godzilla, then what in the world (Or perhaps it's otherworldly? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/26/2011-lexus-lfa-first-drive/">Read our review</a> and decide for yourself.) is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/26/officially-official-2012-lexus-lfa-priced-at-375-000/">nearly $400,000</a> (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/10/lexus-announces-lfa-nu-rburgring-package-only-50-available/">or more</a>) <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/lexus">Lexus</a>?<br />
<br />
Clearly, with a price gap that large, the two automakers don't necessarily count the opposing product as direct competition for its own... but that doesn't mean we aren't keenly interested in seeing how the two Japanese performance behemoths stack up when the light turns green. Got your interest piqued?<br />
<br />
Fortunately for us, <em>Motor Trend</em> managed to procure a brand-new Lexus LFA for testing just long enough to line it up against the magazine's own long-term Nissan GT-R for an impromptu drag race. What happened? Well, the Lexus unleashed all 552 of its horsepower (at 8,700 RPM) and 354 pound-feet of torque (at 6,800 RPM) to its rear wheels and the Nissan used its all-wheel drive system to its advantage.<br />
<br />
And? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/10/video-motor-trend-pits-lexus-lfa-against-nissan-gt-r-in/#continued">Click past the break</a> to find out how the rest of the story unfolds. Oh, and as cool as this grudge match may be, we still want to see what happens between the two warriors after a few laps on a proper race track. <em>Thanks to all who sent this in!</em><br />

<br /> We knew the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/lfa">Lexus LFA</a> was fast, but we didn't know just how fast until reports came in of the rapid rate at which wealthy Japanese customers are snapping it up. In the three months since the final car was unveiled, all 165 examples of the Toyota division's supercar have reportedly been spoken for.<br /> <br /> Whereas in North America, the allotment of LFAs will be leased in order to counter speculation, in Japan (as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/04/lexus-lfa-to-be-sold-in-europe-through-one-dealership/">in Europe</a>), buyers will be able to buy their super-Lexi outright, at a price of 37,500,000 yen (~$410k USD) apiece. If the remaining 335 examples destined for markets abroad go as quickly as Japan's allotment, we could be looking at one of the fastest cars ever made - in one sense or another.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-lexus-lfa">First Drive: 2011 Lexus LFA</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-lexus-lfa/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfafd_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-lexus-lfa/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfafd_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-lexus-lfa/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfafd_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-lexus-lfa/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfafd_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2011-lexus-lfa/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/lexuslfafd_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://response.jp/article/2010/01/13/134738.html">Response</a> via <a href="http://www.leblogauto.com/2010/01/lexus-lfa-deja-rupture-stock-japon.html">Le Blog Auto</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/13/report-all-165-lexus-lfa-supercars-earmarked-for-japan-already/">Report: All 165 Lexus LFA supercars earmarked for Japan already spoken for</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 14:27:00 EST. <br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/23/report-lexus-to-lease-not-sell-all-500-lfa-supercars-in-ord/">lease-only</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/26/2011-lexus-lfa-first-drive/">2011 Lexus LFA</a> supercar has been getting a lot of exposure lately. We had a chance to drive it a few weeks ago and just showed you some pics of the matte black car when it showed up at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/21/cars-and-coffee-lexus-lfa-shows-up-ahead-of-la-auto-show/">Cars &amp; Coffee</a> in Irvine this Saturday, but now we have something even better. LeMans-winner and <em>Jay Leno Show</em> racing coach, Justin Bell, heads out onto Fontana's California Speedway with this very same LFA, getting some instruction himself from fellow racer Scott Pruett before taking the better seat for a lap.<br />
<br />
The segment was shot for the latest episode of <a href="http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/"><em>Jay Leno's Garage</em></a>, the Jay Leno webshow that highlights a different car every week, sometimes with Jay driving and sometimes with Justin doing the heavy lifting. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/23/video-justin-bell-shows-off-lexus-lfa-in-jay-lenos-garage/#continued">Follow the jump</a> to see the video for yourself and be sure to check out Jay's Garage regularly if you don't already. Listening to this thing rip up to 9,000 RPM is worth the nine-minute investment of your time, trust us. <em>Thanks for the tip Gabriel!</em><br />

<br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/lfa">Lexus LFA</a> supercar might not be in dealerships for another year or more, but the two prototypes are getting quite a workout. After driving the car in Miami, we heard the white one was shipped off to Europe while the black one took up residence in its new home: a trailer. The car has made a few appearances around the country, most recently at SEMA and a private showing in the Los Angeles area. Next stop on the LFA tour appears to be the LA Auto Show, but apparently it couldn't stand to be cooped up too long.<br />
<br />
Along with a handful of other Lexus show cars, it showed up at our favorite Saturday morning car meet. The handler fired it up several times so the crowd could marvel at that V10 shriek. Reactions were mixed, mainly where price was concerned. We heard more than one person say that if it had a Supra badge and sub-$100K pricetag, it would be a killer. At four times that price, the Lexus badge just doesn't seem to win as many people over. One thing almost everyone loved was that changeable display with the sliding center gauge.<br />

<br />
Hiromu Naruse is Toyota Motor Company's "master test driver." He's the man responsible for honing our favorite ToMoCo sports cars - from the MR2 to the Supra - and he's one of four drivers that ran the 24 Hours of N&uuml;rburgring (along with several other races) in two <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/LexusLFA/">Lexus LFA</a> prototypes, joining Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda in the #14 car. Yesterday, he became our personal chauffer around the Homestead-Miami Speedway.<br />
<br />
The only problem: the batteries died on our GoPro camera. Thankfully, <a href="http://www.0-60mag.com/online/?p=20054"><em>0-60</em>'s helmsman Brian Scotto had his own minicam</a> and handed it over when it was our turn to get a few hot laps from the master. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/lexus-lfa-video-hot-lap/#continued">After the jump</a> you'll find two videos: one mounted on the inside of the windshield (the suction cup isn't rated over 150 MPH, and we hit 157 MPH on the oval) and another shot by Scotto's iPhone as Naruse-san delicately snaked the Lexus LFA around the Speedway. 3... 2... 1... <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/lexus-lfa-video-hot-lap/#continued">jump</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/lexus-lfa-video-hot-lap/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Lexus LFA hotlap at Homestead-Miami Speedway</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/lexus-lfa-video-hot-lap/">VIDEO: Lexus LFA hotlap at Homestead-Miami Speedway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 19:55:00 EST. <br />
We're still trying to wrap our heads around yesterday's drive of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/lfa/">Lexus LFA</a>, but before we give up the goods on Toyota's first V10-powered hypercar (check back on Monday), we cornered Paul Williamsen, the National Manager of Lexus College, about ToMoCo's plans to offer a harder, track-focused LFA.<br />
<br />
In the last few years of development, Lexus considered building several more LFAs to be used in a one-make spec series to pit wealthy privateers against each other, further accentuating the LFA's extensive motorsport involvement. That plan fell by the wayside when Toyota decided to limit production to just 500 units. <br />
<br />
However, Lexus is actively considering offering owners the option to purchase a decontented LFA, stripped of its luxurious, tech-laden interior and fitted with more track oriented features to be used as a weekend racer. A final decision hasn't been made yet, but Williamsen was clear that these hardened LFAs would have to be created out of the current allocation, as Lexus is intent on keeping production to a "hard" 500 units. Considering that nearly all the components fitted to the LFA were derived from prototypes that ran at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring and other events (the suspension remains adjustable for corner balancing and nearly all the components on the race cars were serialed production pieces), it wouldn't take much to turn the LFA into a tried-and-true racer with a few thoughtful, minimal mods.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/23/lexus-lfa-track-focused-stripped/">Lexus may offer decontented, track-focused LFA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 12:32:00 EST. The LF-A <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/17/the-l-word-lexus-to-rename-lf-a-supercar-as-lf-l/">(or LF-L)</a> is a lock for production and rumors have the Japanese supercar going on sale in the UK <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/18/spy-shots-lexus-lf-a-back-on-ring-wearing-white/">as early as this month</a>. Lending more credence to its imminent arrival: a new video of the LF-A leaving a gas station outside the Nurburgring.<br /> <br /> Joining a pre-production camo-clad mule is a white LF-A cloaked in a minimal amount of detail obscuring taping, and as the near production version heads out slowly from the lot, the lucky driver quickly gets on the go pedal, with the rev-happy 550 hp V10 powerplant letting out a series of F1-style cries. It's definitely worth your time, especially if you've got the speakers to appreciate the sound of Toyota's first exotic powertrain. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/video-production-spec-lexus-lf-a-opens-the-taps-outside-the-ri/#continued">Make the jump</a> to check out the video and Toyota's release.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept">Lexus LF-A Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HAMKHRJbrU">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/video-production-spec-lexus-lf-a-opens-the-taps-outside-the-ri/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Production spec Lexus LF-A opens the taps outside the 'Ring</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/video-production-spec-lexus-lf-a-opens-the-taps-outside-the-ri/">VIDEO: Production spec Lexus LF-A opens the taps outside the 'Ring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 08 Oct 2009 13:30:00 EST.
