Typically an automaker releases information on its latest concept cars in the days and weeks running up to the auto show where it's set to be unveiled. But when we got to Frankfurt this year, Volkswagen had a few surprises up its sleeve that were neither previewed beforehand nor unveiled at the VW Group event the night before the Messe opened its doors to the gathered press.

Revamped for 2012, the stylish Seat Exeo has shown the world its fresh new face at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The automaker says the refreshed Exeo has a more stylized front end, a freshened interior and LED daytime running lights. Many cars have come and gone claiming to be "race cars for the road," but few actually live up to it. Not Radical, though. The British automaker does one thing and one thing only, and that's making Le Mans Prototype-style track cars that you can – technically speaking, at least – drive on the street. The 2012 911 wasn't the only Porsche to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. German tuner Techart unveiled its new GTStreet RS based on the 911 GT2 RS. The car features a variety of upgrades, from carbon fiber aerodynamic enhancements to a power upgrade package that boosts the output of the twin-turbo flat-six to 710 horsepower and 664 lb-ft torque. Volkswagen announced earlier this year that it would be entering the World Rally Championship starting in 2013 with the Polo R, and we got our first glimpse of the race car here in Frankfurt. While it's easy to see the similarities to the road version, the Polo R WRC has been transformed into an all-out rally car with widened fenders, a fully stripped and caged interior, and plenty of carbon fiber on the body. Kia has its bags packed for Germany, because the automaker is reportedly planning to unveil a new concept car at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. According to Ward's Auto, Kia officials aren't calling it a coupe, but state the car will have "coupe-like" styling.
