<br />
The official pace car for last weekend's Dickies 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race was none other than the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. This, in itself, is no biggie. What's interesting is <em>how </em>the car was delivered to the Texas Motor Speedway prior to the race. If you watched sports over the weekend, you know that salutes to America's veterans were part of just about every event that took place (Veterans Day is tomorrow, remember). <br />
<br />
As part of that theme, NASCAR had the Camaro delivered to the track in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. In the video posted after the jump, you'll see the big heavy-lift chopper touch down, drop its ramp, have the Chevy drive on out, and take back off. At the wheel of the Camaro was <a href="http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/NASA_astronaut_Doug_Hurley_to_be_honored_at_Texas_Motor_Speedway.html">NASA astronaut Doug Hurley</a>, who is also a TMS season-ticket holder, a United States Marine Corps colonel, and was the pilot of the shuttle Endeavour on this year's STS-127 mission. Pretty. Freaking. Cool. In fact, short of the Camaro and Chinook subsequently turning into robots and fighting each other on the TMS infield, it doesn't get much cooler. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/10/video-nascars-dickies-500-shows-you-how-to-properly-deliver-a/#continued">Follow the jump</a> to watch.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2010 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible by</small></strong></em><em><strong><small> Drop Top Customs</small></strong></em><em><strong><small> - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
When we received the press release from Drop Top Customs saying that they would be bringing a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/08/sema-preview-drop-top-customs-bringing-convertible-camaro-to-si/">Camaro convertible</a> to SEMA, we could hardly contain ourselves. Ever since the Camaro Concept was first shown some way too many years ago, we've been expecting a droptop version as well. General Motors has had a lot on their plate lately and we consider ourselves lucky that we've even got the coupe now. With things starting to change at the top within the GM brass though, we fully expect things to change at the top of this classic bit of American iron as well.<br />
<br />
Right now, unfortunately, a genuine factory convertible isn't available, so it's up to the aftermarket to fill that need. <a href="http://www.droptopcustoms.com/">Drop Top</a>'s droptop looked like a decent attempt from the early pics but we wanted to see it in person before we really signed off on it. We knew it would be here at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sema/">SEMA</a> but it took us a while to find it. The odd thing is that we found another Camaro convertible first. We eventually found the Drop Top, which you see above, though too.<br />
<br />
The yellow car looked pretty much like the photos we had seen earlier, except that it was real and sitting in front of us finally. The conversion seems really well done. We know it's hard for any aftermarket firm to match the level of development that the automaker itself can do, but these guys are experts at building chop-top vehicles. If you have to have a Camaro convertible and you simply cannot wait for Chevy to produce one of their own, then this might be a good option. Of course there is at least one other option as well, as we found out when we canvassed the show's North Hall.<br />
<br />
A black Camaro convertible was also on display, featuring a large chrome grille and Forgiato wheels. This conversion was done by <a href="http://www.newportconvertible.com/">Newport Convertible</a> and seems roughly as good as the Drop Top job. The top mechanism looks like it fits pretty low in the rear deck and the materials seem top notch, just like on the yellow car. Newport didn't have a full boot fitted, but it looked professional, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. We didn't get a chance to see either with their tops up (or in motion), however, so we still need to reserve final judgment. In the meantime, just know that there are now two convertible Camaro options for those who absolutely, positively need a Camaro convertible <em>today</em>. Check out our high-res gallery below.<br />

<br />
What do you get the guy who has everything? For <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sema/">SEMA 2009</a>, GM decided to go with the less-is-more approach and built Jay Leno his own special Camaro... with less. Less cylinders at any rate, as this V6 special more than makes up for its lack of firing pots by adding a <em>pair</em> of turbochargers.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2010-chevrolet-jay-leno-camaro/#11"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" align="right" border="1" alt="" class="right border" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/10-leno-camaro-sema_opt.jpg" /></a>The 3.6-liter direct-injected V6 is otherwise similar to the unit that resides in run-of-the-mill Camaro LS and LT models, but with the dual huffers helping it, it produces the same 425 horsepower as its V8-propelled SS brother. And in a playful EcoBoasting slap, Chevy points out that they get the extra performance with virtually no penalty in fuel economy. Take that, rumored EcoBoost Mustang!<br />
<br />
Besides the power upgrades, the Leno Camaro also gets a beefed up clutch for its six-speed transmission, an upgraded radiator, Brembo brakes, a Pedders coil-over kit, and a bodykit that includes a new rear diffuser as well as a revised front fascia and hood with additional venting for brakes and engine. It's one of a handful of Camaros in the GM booth, but it's the only one sticking its chin out, egging on the Ford boys. Press release after the jump and full gallery below.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS - click above image for hi-res gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />
Years and years and years ago (like back in the Eighties), we read a study that broke down car ownership by gender. The car most purchased by men? The Porsche 928, with a score of 97% male. Most by women? 69% of the time the ladies bought Nissan Pulsars - you know, those oddball <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e6/Nissan-Pulsar-N13.jpg">notchback/shooting brake/targa-top</a> modular things that usually came in pink. We mention this because traditionally, muscle cars have aimed at and appreciated by men. In fact, the gender breakdown for the 4th-generation Camaro is 80% male to 20% female. Not anymore.<br />
<br />
Despite 'Vettes getting 'em wet as the sleeveless t-shirt proclaims, it seems that what women actually want is a brand new Chevrolet Camaro. At least, that appears to be the case with America's neighbors up in the True North Strong and Free. According to Autos Canada, it's looking like new 2010 Camaro sales in Canada are splitting the gender divide right down the middle, as in 50-50 in some locations. "Unlike the older versions of the Camaro where you probably had the typical motorhead, male, buyer, this is totally the opposite," says one Canadian Chevy dealer. <br />
<br />
Why is this? Says General Motors spokesman George Saratlic, "One of our biggest challenges was the muscle car association to the car. We knew we couldn't do a replica of a '69 Camaro - It limits your audience." What does that say about fans of the 2010 Camaro? Probably not much, as the 426 horsepower LS3 version still skews heavily male. Also, the heavy dose of marketing via Michael Bay's Transformers movie series ensures that eight-year-olds and their ilk are way into GM's latest pony car as well. Still, women are clearly seeing something exciting in the Camaro. <em>Thanks for the tip, Lawrence!</em><br />

<br />
The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro has taken so long to get to here we wouldn't be surprised if Caravaggio did the original sketches. We wanted the car when we first saw it back in 6 B.C. We drove prototypes sometime around the Norman Conquest. And now it's finally on the streets. It seems like a mighty long time, but a Camaro SS finally found its way into our hands and it was like being delivered a mail-order bride we'd been corresponding with for ages, begging, "Please, just get here." But how long would our honeymoon last? Or would there be one at all? We hit the road <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/01/review-2010-chevrolet-camaro-ss-demands-to-be-loved/#continued">to find out</a>.<br />

<br />
We'll have our monthly <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/by-the-numbers/">By the Numbers</a> post ready in a jiffy, but one thing that stood out after glancing at the monthly automotive sales figures is that the Chevy Camaro has outsold the Ford Mustang for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/is-this-a-trend-camaro-beats-mustang-in-sales-for-second-straig/">third month in a row</a>. While it's still a bit too early to call this an official trend, it's clear that there was a significant backlog of demand for GM's latest muscle car. That much was a given with The General reporting over 10,000 advance orders for the car before it even hit dealer lots.<br />
<br />
We're not exactly shocked that the Camaro - with 8,680 total sales vs 6,289 for the Stang - is selling at a healthy clip, but it is a bit surprising to see the Mustang drop over 23 percent over the previous year. After all, Ford's pony car was heavily refreshed for the 2010 model year and has received <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/chevy-camaro-and-dodge-challenger-better-than-fords-mustang-i/">excellent reviews</a> from the motoring press, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/18/review-2010-ford-mustang-gt/">ourselves included</a>. Perhaps some Mustang intenders are holding out for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/12/report-2011-ford-mustang-to-get-upgraded-track-pack-to-handle-5/">expected 400+ horsepower 5.0-liter, 32-valve DOHC Coyote engine</a> or turbocharged <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/16/report-2011-ford-mustang-to-finally-get-new-3-7-liter-dohc-v6/">EcoBoost V6</a>? Time will tell...<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/broken-record-camaro-outsells-mustang-for-third-straight-month/">Broken Record: Camaro outsells Mustang for third straight month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 17:30:00 EST. <br /> Sales of the born-again <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/camaro">Chevrolet Camaro</a> have been notably strong in its first few months on the market here in the United States, even beating its longtime crosstown rival from Ford in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/breaking-chevrolet-camaro-outsells-ford-mustang/">June</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/is-this-a-trend-camaro-beats-mustang-in-sales-for-second-straig/">July</a>. <br /><br />Now, word comes from General Motors Asia Pacific that the Bowtie's latest muscle car is a hit (of sorts) in Japan as well. We must qualify the term "hit," as the car's total number of takers in Japan is very small, at "over 120 orders" - we could see at least that many within eyesight at any given time last weekend at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/woodward2009">Woodward Dream Cruise</a>. However, that's reportedly the American automaker's quota for Japan, although it isn't clear if the tiny allotment is part of General Motors' brand strategy or if the volume is limited by local government regulations. Either way, if you live in Japan and you want a new Camaro, you'd better put your name on Chevy's list for next year.<br /> <br /> According to Inside Line, the new Camaro is expected to sell in Japan for the equivalent of $45,325 to $56,390, depending on the buyer's choice of either the six-cylinder or muscular V8 powerplant.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro/low/">2010 Chevy Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/000_10camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/001_10camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/002_10camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/003_10camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/004_10camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=155206?mktcat=enabler&amp;AID=10364102&amp;PID=3193616&amp;kw=N&amp;synpartner=edmunds&amp;mktid=cj260233">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/18/big-in-japan-chevrolet-camaro-reportedly-already-sold-out-in-ni/">Big in Japan: Chevrolet Camaro reportedly already sold out in Nippon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 18 Aug 2009 18:39:00 EST. <br />
The hot-selling 2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/camaro">Chevy Camaro</a> is made in Oshawa, Canada. The mayor of Oshawa, John Gray, drives a spanking new red Camaro SS with a white racing stripe, just like the one that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/chevrolet-camaro-launches-in-the-middle-east-stops-to-pose-for/">introduced the bowtie muscle car to the Middle East</a> back in June. Supporting locally made products sounds like a shrewd move for any politician, especially when the city is footing the bill for your ride. A free Camaro is a great job perk, but one Oshawa resident - Bill Steele - doesn't agree.<br />
<br />
Steele says the mayor is "flaunting this gas-guzzling vehicle all around town... and I don't like that I'm paying for part of a sports car that gets 17 miles to the gallon." Steele serves up the city's high tax rates as a reason why the mayor shouldn't be driving a Camaro. Of course, without over 400 Camaros being built in Oshawa per day, there would likely be thousands fewer tax payers to help pay those already high taxes. Mayor Gray knows there are a few citizens who don't like his pricey, thirsty pony car, but that thankfully isn't stopping him from driving it. <em>Thanks for the tip, Alan!</em><br />

<br />
So... as of January 1, 2010, Pontiac is dead. Buried. Gone forever. No more. Obviously, something as pesky as death ain't going to stop hard core Trans Am fanatics from driving an (almost) honest to goodness 2010 Pontiac Trans Am and/or Firebird. Why? If you have to ask... you bring up a good point. Especially because when you get right down to it, the Trans Am was <em>rarely</em> anything other than a Chevy Camaro with different sheet metal. <br />
<br />
Keeping that in mind, Trans Am Depot will be offering body kits that will transform (lowly) Camaros into full-on screamin' chicken Trans Ams! Based off Kevin Morgan's original design(s), the Phoenix Trans Am kits will be unveiled at the 2009 Trans Am Nationals. And then you'll have the chance to own a Trans Am that costs more than a Camaro but is just as fast. Hey - just sayin'. Fully detailed press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/12/confirmed-phoenix-trans-am-conversion-kit-coming-for-camaro/">after the jump</a>.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Chevrolet Camaro - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Last week, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/breaking-early-camaro-ss-manual-transmission-failures-reported/">we told you</a> about a problem some members of the <em>Camaro5</em> forums who own V8-powered SS models equipped with the Tremec six-speed manual transmission were reporting. The owners were experiencing a broken output shaft on hard launch; a serious problem that will likely render their brand new Bowtie pony car immobile. General Motors responded by putting a hold on V8 Camaros with manual trannies at its Oshawa assembly plant, but until now, there hasn't been a definitive plan for replacing the affected transmissions. <br /><br />Camaro5 is now reporting that GM will pick up the phone and call all owners who may have the defective gearbox, presumably to schedule time at the dealership to fix the problem parts. GM told Camaro5 that the calls will take place in a couple weeks, after an internal investigation regarding the issue is complete. <br /><br />At this point, we don't know what happened to cause the problem with the Tremec 6060 transmission, nor do we know exactly what parts GM will need to repair. What we do know, however, is that we'll update you as soon as we have more information.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/">One Night Stand: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/one-night-stand-2010-chevrolet-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05-one-night-stand-camaro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33674">Camaro5</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/23/hello-chevy-reportedly-vows-to-call-camaro-owners-who-may-have/">Hello? <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Chevy Camaro Transformers Special Edition - Click above for hi-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Today at Comic-Con, General Motors officially announced the 2010 Chevy Camaro Transformers Special Edition. The $995 appearance package can be applied to LT (V6) and SS-trim Camaros in Rally Yellow with or without the optional RS package. So, whadda ya get for the dough? It's very straightforward:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Autobot insignia fender badges and wheel caps</li>
    <li>An embroidered Autobot insignia on the center console</li>
    <li>Gloss-black rally stripes with Transformers logos</li>
    <li>Transformers-logo doorsill plates</li>
</ul>
If you were hoping for more, such as the Z/28 fascia and hood, the storm drain-sized exhaust outlets used on Bumblebee in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/transformers-revenge-of-the-fallen-great-action-even-worse-sto/"><em>Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen</em></a>, or, say, an actual robot mode, you're outta luck. There are no performance upgrades, either -- you'll simply have to make do with the 304, 400, or 426 horsepower that comes standard, depending on which base config you select. If you desperately want your own Bumblebee but are turned off by the whole Transformers brand-mania thing, you can still do the obvious thing and order up a regular Rally Yellow car and simply add plain black rally stripes for $470. We'd do that. Check out the official press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-transformers-special-edition/low/">2010 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-transformers-special-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/01-2010-camaro-transformers-edition_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-transformers-special-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/02-2010-camaro-transformers-edition_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-transformers-special-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/03-2010-camaro-transformers-edition_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-transformers-special-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/04-2010-camaro-transformers-edition_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevrolet-camaro-transformers-special-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/05-2010-camaro-transformers-edition_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: General Motors]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/22/2010-transformers-special-edition-chevy-camaro-unveiled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Transformers Special Edition Chevy Camaro unveiled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/22/2010-transformers-special-edition-chevy-camaro-unveiled/">2010 Transformers Special Edition Chevy Camaro unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 22 Jul 2009 12:35:00 EST. Some dealerships feel like hives of villainy more wretched than even the Star Wars Cantina, though being held at gunpoint by Greedo is likely preferable to enduring the overall auto-buying process at one of those retailers. After all, as Han Solo demonstrated, one <em>can </em>actually "deal" with Greedo in a satisfactory manner.<br /> <br /> Dealing with anyone in a satisfactory manner was, unfortunately, not in the cards for <em>Washington Post</em> blogger Vijay Ravindran, who probably would have had better luck negotiating a peace treaty with the Rancor monster in Jabba's palace. Ravindran, guest-posting at WaPo's <a href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/achenblog/2009/07/guest_kit_why_cant_i_buy_a_cam.html">Achenblog</a>, reports that with his nine-year-old Bimmer beginning to feel a little tired, he was ready to make the move to a new car. Now, Ravindran is one of these people who admits that "domestic sports coupe" is not a thought that had ever tickled his synapses before, but the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-camaro/">2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a>'s drop-dead looks changed all that. Ravindran started with a nearby dealer that advertised Camaros in the newspaper, and things pretty much tanked from there. He called the dealer, left a voicemail requesting a test drive, and promptly never heard back. Good thing the auto market is so strong right now that dealers can turn away prospective customers so easily.<br /> <br /> Ravindran's efforts were similarly futile as he expanded his search to other area Chevy dealers, each of whom appeared to have an aversion to the general concept of getting him into a car. Or responding to his queries at all. The dealer that <em>did </em>finally engage him excelled only at giving him a slimy runaround. Granted, we understand Camaros are hot commodities right now and that they may be hard to get, but Ravindran's story flies directly in the face of GM's post-bankruptcy spin about great dealers, great service, etc. You can <a href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/achenblog/2009/07/guest_kit_why_cant_i_buy_a_cam.html">read Ravindran's whole tale</a> at Achenblog. As for Vijay Ravindran himself, he's no dummy: he's pretty much given up on his Camaro quest.<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE:</strong> Just in, via <a href="http://www.twitter.com/therealautoblog">Twitter</a> from GM's <a href="http://www.twitter.com/AdamDenison">Adam Denison</a>, one of the PR personnel for Camaro:<em><span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content"><br /><br />"FYI, we offered that WaPo blogger a ride with Ed Peper at a local dealership tomorrow. <br />Let's pull back the curtain a little bit, shall we? Sometimes, when we're picking up or dropping off a vehicle to review, we see other vehicles that are in the press fleet. This was the case one afternoon when, during the course of a vehicle swap, we noticed something of interest waiting to be driven off by some other keyboard jockey: a 2010 Camaro 2LT RS, only unlike the one <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/22/the-joy-of-six-2010-chevy-camaro-v6-rs/">we reviewed this spring</a>, <em>this </em>sixxer RS was additionally kitted with the OEM accessory ground effects package and 21-inch two-tone wheels. <br /><br />Frankly, we were taken aback by the whole thing at first, and thought it looked a little ridiculous. The dubs+1 hoops seem overly big, the body kit isn't painted body color, and the new rear bumper cover with its squared off, integrated exhaust outlets is a little excessive. Naturally, we called General Motors and asked if we could take it home for a bit, if only to see if our initial reaction would soften. Mostly, we wanted to photograph it and give you all a chance to weigh in. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/hot-or-not-2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories-w-pol/">Follow the jump</a> to read about our week with the kitted Camaro. After perusing the high-res image gallery below, you can also vote if the 2010 Chevy Camaro RS with factory accessories is hot or not.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories/low/">2010 Chevy Camaro RS with factory accessories</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/oemkitcamaro000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/oemkitcamaro001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/oemkitcamaro002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/oemkitcamaro003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/oemkitcamaro004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez/Weblogs, Inc.</small></span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/hot-or-not-2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories-w-pol/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hot or Not? 2010 Chevy Camaro RS with factory accessories [w/POLL]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/hot-or-not-2010-chevy-camaro-rs-with-factory-accessories-w-pol/">Hot or Not? 2010 Chevy Camaro RS with factory accessories [w/POLL]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 11:54:00 EST. <br />Wasn't it just a couple of years ago that the American Family Association was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/search/?q=AFA&amp;invocationType=wl-auto&amp;searchsubmit=">boycotting Ford</a> for marketing in gay-centric publications? Fast forward to today and see just how much things have changed. Last month, Chevrolet sponsored an event in Los Angeles called <a href="http://www.autoshowgayday.com/">Gay Day at the Movies</a> to promote the release of <em>Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen</em>. Michael Bay's latest opus, of course, features a bunch of General Motors vehicles, not the least of which is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-camaro/">2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a> that plays the leading role of Bumblebee.<br /><br />A video was produced to promote Gay Day at the Movies featuring a pair of "Bumblebee Boys" in Camaro-branded briefs washing the Bowtie brand's pony car revival. The cheeky (pardon the pun) video is clearly targeted at the gay community and uses beefcake car washers to that effect in a not-so-subtle way.<br /><br />Will Chevy or GM see a backlash from being associated with this video? Who knows, but the video isn't exactly being shown in primetime on NBC. For the moment, it lives solely on YouTube with a gajillion other vids - and one would have to actively search to find it. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/video-camaro-makes-marketing-debut-to-gay-demo/">Follow the jump</a> to watch the video for yourself, and please remember to be respectful in the comments.<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE: </strong>The video has been removed from YouTube by the user. <br />High end tuner Fesler has created its own 2010 Fesler Moss Camaro; a tuned-up version of the hot-selling coupe that's been designed as an homage of sorts to General Motors' 1969 Bowtie. For about $55,000, you can get features like an adjustable coilover suspension, special 22-inch wheels and tires, as well as stainless steel struts. Bump the price up to $90k, and you'll get a supercharger that bumps the power quotient to an even 600 ponies. The fully loaded model stickers for a stout $150,000, and includes <a href="http://www.feslerbuilt.com/2010Packagesheet.htm">more equipment</a> than we can reasonably add here. Fesler is even offering a package that includes a matching 1969 model(!) if you've got the garage space and the financial wherewithal. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/video-fesler-camaro-taking-shape-smoking-tires/">Hit the jump</a> to watch video of the supercharged version of the car in action. As you can probably guess on your own, the video includes burnouts and donuts. We wouldn't have it any other way.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.feslerbuilt.com/index.htm">Fesler</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/fesler-camaro-taking-shape-smoking-tires-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fesler Camaro taking shape, smoking tires [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/fesler-camaro-taking-shape-smoking-tires-w-video/">Fesler Camaro taking shape, smoking tires [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 13:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Chevy Camaro - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />You want a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-camaro/">2010 Chevrolet Camaro</a>? You'd better come strong with more money than the MSRP requires, and you'd better be willing to wait.<em> Bloomberg</em> is reporting that General Motors can't build the reborn bow tie pony car fast enough to quench public demand. That's excellent news for a company that needs a reason to smile, and it could be even better for dealers donning the bow tie. After all, car sales are still firmly in the tank, and GM has seen more than its fair share of shrunken demand.<br /><br />Dealers have already booked about 25,000 orders for the Camaro, yet only half have been delivered to date. Analysts reportedly told <em>Bloomberg</em> that dealers are getting $500 over sticker on average, too, and at least one dealer is guessing that he won't have a Camaro to sell in stock for at least a year. Bartow Chevrolet in Florida sold its first two Camaros at MSRP, and he's already booked 18 orders. <br /><br />There is no question that the Camaro has grabbed the attention of the car-buying public, and the debut of <em>Transformers 2 </em>will likely give the pony car another marketing shot in the arm. GM sold 5,463 copies of the Camaro in May, and we're guessing that number will grow as production ramps up. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-first-drive/low/">First Drive: 2010 Chevy Camaro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/001_2010camaro_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/007_2010camaro_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/000_2010camaro_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/002_2010camaro_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-chevy-camaro-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/003_2010camaro_fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601093&amp;sid=auHoxPnOvAjU">Bloomberg</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/report-gm-says-camaro-supply-outstripped-by-demand-cars-sellin/">REPORT: GM says Camaro supply outstripped by demand, cars selling for over sticker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 12:35:00 EST. <br />Normally the twisting of an ignition key doesn't constitute news here at Autoblog, but this is one of the few exceptions. Back in January, Hennessey Performance announced the HPE700, a concoction born from the combination of an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/hennessey-hpe700-bastard-love-child-of-camaro-ss-and-corvette-z/">LS9 supercharged V8 from a ZR1 and a 2010 Camaro</a>. The Texas-based company only recently <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/15/it-fits-hennessey-successfully-shoves-zr1-ls9-into-camaro/">shoe-horned the engine into the engine bay</a>. A video camera was on when it was finally time to start the newly created monster, and the sound is nothing short of amazing. The result of open headers plus what appears to be a fairly aggressive cam makes for a sound that has the hairs on the backs of our necks standing on end. Have a listen for yourself by watching the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/25/video-commencing-countdown-engine-on-for-ls9-powered-hennessey/">after the jump</a>. <em>Thanks for the tip, Brian!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hennessey-ls9-camaro/low/">Hennessey Camaro HPE700</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hennessey-ls9-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/hpe700camaropa_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hennessey-ls9-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/hpe700camaropa_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hennessey-ls9-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/hpe700camaropa_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hennessey-ls9-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/hpe700camaropa_09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hennessey-ls9-camaro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/hpe700camaropa_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv2yFzx9DTk">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/25/video-commencing-countdown-engine-on-for-ls9-powered-hennessey/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Commencing countdown, engine on for LS9-powered Hennessey HPE700</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/25/video-commencing-countdown-engine-on-for-ls9-powered-hennessey/">VIDEO: Commencing countdown, engine on for LS9-powered Hennessey HPE700</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 14:57:00 EST. <br />It's a classic case of old versus new, classic versus current, father versus son. A 1968 Chevy Camaro RS/SS lines up against a 2010 Camaro with the same options packages. According to the comments on YouTube, the '68 is anything but stock, with a 406 cubic inch small-block V8 mated with a five-speed manual Tremec transmission and a 3.73:1 posi rear end. This powertrain combination helps level the odds against the newer and more powerful (in stock form, at least) 2010 model, though we can't say if the new car has is fitted with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.<br /><br />In any case, the race is a close one and, as often is the case with such feuds, the winning driver is probably the one that can make the best use of the available traction. Speaking of which, racing cars out on public roads is never a good idea - even if there isn't any other traffic - and posting the law-breaking antics on YouTube probably isn't a particularly smart move either, given that the authorities seem to be combing the website for lawbrakers these days. In any case, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/01/video-2010-camaro-rs-ss-drag-races-its-1968-counterpart-on-a/">click past the break</a> to watch it all go down on video. As an added bonus, we've included a second video of the same 2010 Camaro lining up against a 1972 big-block Chevelle. <em>Thanks for the tip, Khanh</em>!<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxJODfIDMnE&amp;NR=1">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/01/video-2010-camaro-rs-ss-drag-races-its-1968-counterpart-on-a/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: 2010 Camaro RS/SS drag races its 1968 counterpart... on a bridge?!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/01/video-2010-camaro-rs-ss-drag-races-its-1968-counterpart-on-a/">VIDEO: 2010 Camaro RS/SS drag races its 1968 counterpart... on a bridge?!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 12:29:00 EST. <br />Artisan is teaming up with Turbochargers.com to create a turn-key tuner out of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010ChevroletCamaroSS/">2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS</a>. Using a similar formula as its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/04/sema-preview-600-hp-twin-turbo-fox-marketing-artisan-lexus-is">Lexus IS-F SEMA car</a>, the crew is employing a duo of rear-mounted GTK350 turbos, a cat-back exhaust, intercooler and a tweaked ECU to net a total of 600 whp from the SS' 6.2-liter V8. The body benefits from a 1.5-inch flare in front and a three-inch stretch in the rear where a set of 21-inch (front) and 22-inch (rear) iForged wheels reside, framing 14-inch SSBC Big Brakes. A new lip, rear diffuser, gauge package, Artisan-embroidered head-rests, BASF Glasurit paint and a numbered plaque round out the mods, and although the parts can be had separately, the full turn-key package will set you back $69,000 when the Artisan SA-600 goes on sale this June.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/07/600-hp-twin-turbocharged-artisan-camaro-ss-sa-600/">600-hp, twin-turbocharged Artisan Camaro SS SA-600</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 07 May 2009 20:01:00 EST. <br />Might the newly-revived Camaro be the bright shining sales star that General Motors so desperately needs? That remains to be seen, but at least initial reports are favorable. According to <em>The Peterborough Examiner</em> (via <em>The Detroit News</em>), demand for the new-gen. muscle car is high enough that GM has asked workers at the assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario, to work through the week of June 29, which had previously been scheduled as mandatory time off. Furthermore, Camaro orders are expected to be strong enough to keep the Oshawa plant's flex line humming along on Saturdays in June, July and August, and that means overtime for the beleaguered auto workers.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-camaro-production/low/">Pre-production Chevy Camaro assembly</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-camaro-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/01-camaro-prod-feb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-camaro-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/02-camaro-prod-feb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-camaro-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/03-camaro-prod-feb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-camaro-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/04-camaro-prod-feb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevrolet-camaro-production/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/05-camaro-prod-feb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1554563">The Peterborough Examiner</a> via <a href="http://www.detnews.com/article/20090506/AUTO01/905060396/1148/rss25">The Detroit News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/06/gm-adds-shift-at-oshawa-to-keep-up-with-camaro-demand/">GM adds shift at Oshawa to keep up with Camaro demand</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 06 May 2009 14:29:00 EST.
