<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mazda/">Mazda</a> is reportedly looking to issue a recall of the popular <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/infiniti/mazda3">Mazda3</a> compact in its European and Asian markets. According to <em>Automotive News</em>, the carmaker has filed a report with the Japanese transport ministry stating that driving on rough roads for an extended period of time can cause the car's oil hose to rub against the radiator's protective panel. This can cause oil to leak if the hose is worn down. Worst case scenario, Mazda says, is that the car will simply be unable to start.<br />
<br />
This recall will only affect 89,822 Axela models (the Mazda3's name in Asian markets) in Japan and China, and an additional 191,503 units sold throughout Europe. The United States is off the hook this time, though, since the recall only covers vehicles fitted with an engine that's unavailable in the U.S. Mazda is currently deciding how to repair this problem in all markets and plans to issue the official recall in the near future.<br />

Quite an undertaking. As they put it, "58 contenders. $2.5 million total. 12,000 test miles logged." For those keeping track, this is the 28th time <em>C/D</em> has published their 10Best. Surprises this year? No not really. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/BMW3Series/">BMW 3 Series</a> continues its unabated drive of dominance to 10Best history with an impressive, will-probably-never-be-duplicated <em>19th</em> straight win. Not to be too outdone, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/HondaAccord/">Honda Accord</a> also makes the cut for a <em>24th</em> time, though not consecutive. <br /> <br /> Also note that while the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/AudiS4/">Audi S4</a> makes the grade, the run-of-the-mill (so to speak) <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/A4/">A4</a> does <em>not</em>. We're also pleased to see the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FordFusionHybrid/">Ford Fusion Hybrid</a> getting its just dues (again, it's interesting that the gas-only version doesn't). And of course, you've got your yearly appearance by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/MazdaMiataMX5/">Mazda Miata MX-5</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/PorscheBoxster/">Porsche Boxster</a> / <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Cayman/">Cayman</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/VolkswagenGTI/">Volkswagen GTI</a>. Falling off the list this year? The Chevrolet Corvette, Infiniti G37, and the Jaguar XF.<br /> <br /> Would we have done things much differently? Probably not much, though we must admit we were pulling for the highly impressive <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/SuzukiKizashi/">Suzuki Kizashi</a> to make its debut and we're a bit surprised to not see one of the new crop of pony cars on the list. Maybe next year. Alphabetical list of winners <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/23/car-and-driver-announces-2010-10best-cars/">after the jump</a>.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.caranddriver.com/features/09q4/2010_10best_cars-10best_cars">Car and Driver</a> | Image Source: <a href="http://www.rsowens.com/galleries/custom/product.asp?ITEM_ID=2037">R.S. <em><strong><small>2010 Tri-Point Motorsports Mazda3 World Challenge Racecar - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
The 2010 Mazda3 made its motorsports debut this past weekend on its home track, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca at the final race of the 2009 SPEED World Challenge season. The car was developed and built by Tri-Point Motorsports, which has been running Mazdas in the series since 2001. The team has raced a trio of Mazda6s for the past few season, even capturing the Touring Car title in 2007 with Jeff Altenburg behind the wheel. <br />
<br />
Mazda hasn't released any official details on the car quite yet, but a company representative told us that the race was less about going fast and was more of a "public test" to give the car some much needed track time. In fact, the car was completed just before the race and didn't even get its sponsor decals until the second practice day. Even so, rookie driver Eric Foss managed to qualify in 12th and zoom-zoomed his way to a respectable 11th place in Sunday's race. Check out our photos of new Mazda3 racecar - which looks extraordinarily happy to be on track - in the high-res gallery below.<br />

<em><strong><small>2010 Mazda3 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
We can't talk about the new Mazda3 without lovingly gushing over the old Mazda3. Introduced in 2003 and produced until this year, the first generation was a segment buster. For about the same coin as its competitors, the Mazda3 gave you more: More sportiness, more refinement, more space and, being a Mazda, more reliability. The Mazda3 was just a better car. And of course there was the beloved MazdaSpeed3 - aka lightning in a reasonably-priced bottle. For 2010, Mazda has built a new, slightly larger 3 packed with polarizing styling, a bigger engine and more creature comforts. But will the new car bust the segment like its predecessor did?<br />
<br />

<br />Automakers have to walk a thin line when updating a sales success or perennial favorite. It's even worse when the outgoing model embodies both traits. The "evolution not revolution" line gets tossed around the engineering and design centers with the hope the two teams can build off the current model's strengths while simultaneously delivering the upgraded content consumers expect. The 2010 Mazda3 proves it can be done.<br /><br />With nearly one-third of all Mazdas sold with a 3 appended to the rear, the 2010 model had to continue to meet and exceed expectations in its class, something that's difficult to do when battling it out for compact supremacy among Toyota Corollas and Honda Civics. Thankfully, the features that made the original Mazda3 the leader in its segment - an expressive exterior, well-appointed interior and surprisingly engaging driving dynamics - not only carry over for 2010, but have been improved across the board. After a day of driving, the new 3 wasn't the only one wearing a grin. And oh, what a grin it is.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mazda3">First Drive: 2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-2010-mazda3-first-drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/07-2010-mazda3-first-drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-2010-mazda3-first-drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-2010-mazda3-first-drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-2010-mazda3-first-drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Damon Lavrinc/Weblogs, Inc.</small></span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/first-drive-2010-mazda3-more-grins-inside-and-out/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2010 Mazda3 - More grins, inside and out</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/first-drive-2010-mazda3-more-grins-inside-and-out/">First Drive: 2010 Mazda3 - More grins, inside and out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 11:58:00 EST. <br />Mazda has put a price tag on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010Mazda3/">2010 Mazda3</a>, and for $15,045, you can roll away in an entry-level sedan equipped with a manual transmission. For those keeping track, that's a scant $355 more than the outgoing model, and it's a small price to pay for the additional features inside.<br /><br />The Mazda3 i Touring sedan, equipped with the 2.0-liter four-pot and an automatic gearbox will set you back $18,350, and comes equipped with Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and Bluetooth integration. If you option up for the Mazda3 s Sport sedan with the 2.5-liter four and autobox, the price rises to $19,540, with the five-door version coming in at $20,030. Both models receive 17-inch wheels and a dash-mounted 4.1-inch multi-information screen that displays everything from MP3 tracks to trip data and maintenance alerts. The "s" models are also available with the Technology package, which includes keyless entry, push-button start, sat-nav, Sirius radio (with six months of service included) and a perimeter alarm, all of which can be yours for $1,195. A Moonroof/CD changer/BOSE Audio package is available at $1,395 and you can get all the details on each package in the press release below the fold.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-hatchback">2010 Mazda3 Hatchback</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-hatchback/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/19_mazda3hatch09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-hatchback/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/20_mazda3hatch09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-hatchback/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/21_mazda3hatch09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-hatchback/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/00_mazda3hatch09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-hatchback/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/2010mazda3_hatch_hi02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/17/2010-mazda3-starting-at-15-045/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Mazda3 starting at $15,045</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/17/2010-mazda3-starting-at-15-045/">2010 Mazda3 starting at $15,045</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 13:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res image gallery of unused Mazda3 designs</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />It takes a lot of time and effort to redesign any vehicle, but the problem is magnified when the model in question is an automaker's best-seller. So it's not surprising that Mazda would have a number of unused concepts left over from the team tasked with updating the popular <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mazda3-shows-its-smiling-face/">Mazda3</a> compact. What's more intriguing, however, is just how good some of these unused sketches are. For instance, while we like the overall design of the new '3, take a look at this <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/1187035/">alternate front face</a> - meaner and more aggressive than the propitious look of the final car. <br /><br />Not only is a critical eye necessary to be a designer, it also requires a desire to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/1187041/">get your hands dirty</a> at times. Full-size clay models need to be shaped and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/1187046/">refined in wind tunnels</a> before getting final approval, and the new car needs to at least share a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/1187044/">passing resemblance</a> to its predecessor. See the whole process through which Mazda designers trudged in our gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches">Unused Mazda3 Sketches</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/2010-mazda3-18_1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/2010-mazda3-23_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/2010-mazda3-24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/2010-mazda3-13_1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/unused-mazda3-sketches/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/2010-mazda3-9_1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/11/2010-mazda3-sedan-rejected-design.html">Carscoop</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/26/cutting-room-floor-mazda3-sedan-designs-that-didnt-cut-it/">Cutting room floor: Mazda3 sedan designs that didn't make it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 26 Nov 2008 11:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for more "official spy shots" of the 2010 Mazda3 5-door</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The styling of the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mazda3-shows-its-smiling-face/">Mazda3</a> is generally pretty good, with one notable and extremely controversial element: that happy-go-lucky smiling face. Still, we've yet to get an official uncovered glimpse of the upcoming 5-door hatch, so there may still be some surprises up Mazda's sleeve. Today we discovered the odd batch of "official spy shots" straight from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/1178016/">the horse's mouth</a>, Mazda that is. They show the upcoming hatchback as it <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/1177992/">sheepishly</a> plays <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/1177994/">peek-a-boo</a> with its sedan sibling through some beautiful European scenery. From what we can tell, that blissfully chipper visage is alive and well on the 5-door. The rest of the details, unfortunately, are still pretty obscured by all that effective black vinyl clothing. <br /><br />When it finally is <a href="http://www.motivemag.com/pub/news/2010_Mazda3_Hatchback_Coming_to_Bologna_Motor_Show_in_a_Few_Weeks.shtml">debuted at the 2008 Bologna Motorshow</a> in Italy next month, the hatch's engine options should basically mirror those of the sedan's, which means the U.S. will initially get both a 148-horsepower 2.0L and a larger 167-horse 2.5L version of the MZR four cylinder engine. Could a Mazdaspeed3 be far behind? <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door">Spy Shots: 2010 Mazda3 5-door</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/mazda3-prototype-drive_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/mazda3-prototype-drive_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/mazda3-prototype-drive_29_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/mazda3-prototype-drive_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-5-door/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/mazda3-prototype-drive_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Mazda Via <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/11/2010-mazda3-hatchback-spy-photos.html">Carscoop</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/spy-shots-sort-of-mazda3-five-door-hatchback/">Spy Shots (Sort of): Mazda3 five-door hatchback</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 14:57:00 EST. <br />Mazda has unveiled its 2010 Mazda3 sedan here at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> and we managed to snap some nice shots off as it was spinning around on a huge rotating stand. It's a good looking car that Mazda says carries on its "family face" with stylish bulges and creases that attract the eyes, and we're really looking forward to seeing the hatchback version as well. Underhood is a newly-enlarged 2.5-liter version of Mazda's MZR inline-four that offers up 167-horsepower and can be mated to either a 6-speed stick or 5-speed auto. As before, a standard 148-horsepower 2.0L four will be available and can be had with either a manual or auto tranny with 5 forward ratios each. <br /><br />Considering the low price class in which the Mazda3 competes, features like dual-zone automatic climate control, Xenon self-leveling head lamps, push-button start and hands-free Bluetooth are very nice touches, as is the iPod integration and an optional leather interior. Increasingly important these days is fuel mileage, so the 3's low .29 coefficient of drag is an important piece of the overall efficiency puzzle and helps the 2010 Mazda3 hit 33 mpg on the highway with the smaller engine option. See the full press release past the break for all the details and be sure to check out our live shots below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2008-2010-mazda3">LA 2008: 2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2008-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_mazda3_live_la_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2008-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_mazda3_live_la_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2008-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_mazda3_live_la_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2008-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_mazda3_live_la_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/la-2008-2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/05_mazda3_live_la_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-6">2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-6/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/00_2010mazd3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-6/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_2010mazd3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-6/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_2010mazd3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-6/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_2010mazd3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-6/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_2010mazd3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><small>Photos Copyright (C)2008 Frank Filipponio, Chris Shunk / Weblogs, Inc.</small></span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mazda3-shows-its-smiling-face/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LA 2008: 2010 Mazda3 shows its smiling face [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mazda3-shows-its-smiling-face/">LA 2008: 2010 Mazda3 shows its smiling face [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Nov 2008 16:29:00 EST. <br />Mazda has let loose a few more details on its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/08/2010-mazda3-unveiled-ahead-of-la-auto-show/">2010 Mazda3</a> just two days ahead of its official unveiling at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a>. As before, there will be a base 2.0-liter engine that comes standard along with an optional larger unit, now enlarged to 2.5 liters. The displacement bump comes with a power increase, naturally, up to 167 galloping ponies from 156. Both engines sit under a newly-domed hood and gulp air from a smiling front grille that seems to be the new car's most controversial styling feature. As before, both a four-door hatch/wagon and a sedan will be offered, though we're only scheduled to see the trunked model this week in LA with the five-door set to debut shortly thereafter. Here's hoping that the zoomy Mazdaspeed3 sees additional improvements beyond the new digs, as well. Check out the official press release from Mazda that arrived today for all the details we know so far.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3">2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04111s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04112s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04113s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Mazda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/18/la-preview-2010-mazda3-gains-167-hp-2-5l/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LA Preview: 2010 Mazda3 gains 167-hp 2.5L</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/18/la-preview-2010-mazda3-gains-167-hp-2-5l/">LA Preview: 2010 Mazda3 gains 167-hp 2.5L</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 15:29:00 EST. <p>With the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/08/2010-mazda3-unveiled-ahead-of-la-auto-show/">2010 Mazda3</a> on its way, the next logical question for any gearhead worth his driving shoes is when we'll set our eyes on the next Mazdaspeed version. Well, we have our answer already if the latest batch of spy shots are to be believed.</p>
<p>The current Mazdaspeed3, also known as the Mazda3 MPS in Europe and the Mazdaspeed Axela in the Japanese domestic market, is a veritable barn-stormer and Mazda's performance engineers will be eager to follow up with an even hotter version of the new model. This prototype, bearing all the hallmarks of the new 3 coupled with all manner of performance bolt-ons, was spotted lapping the vaunted N&uuml;rburgring Nordschleife wearing a bit of camo and a lot of speed. The shots reveal the presence of a big ol' hood scoop, oversized alloys, a full aero kit and dual exhaust. Of course, the next question is what engine will be crammed under that gaping bonnet vent, with some suggesting a revamped version of the current model's direct-inject 2.3-liter turbo four and others the Volvo-derived 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo slated to crank out 300 hp in the new Euro-only Ford Focus RS. Tantalizing options, both, but we'll just have to wait and see what the Zoom-Zoom crew have in store for us.</p>

The styling of the new Mazda3 looks more expensive than the current model, and is perhaps a better example of the brand's new design language than the also recently redesigned Mazda6. We've been looking forward to seeing pics of the Mazda3 on the inside, and judging from this one spy shot we've seen so far, the Zoom Zoom designers didn't go cheap on the interior. <br /><br />The first thing that draws attention in the Mazda3 cabin is the Civic-esque two-tier dashboard. We're not huge fans of this style, but Mazda designers did a nice job of integrating the top deck with the lower level and center stack. Judging from the sole pic, some buttons on the center stack look to be a bit small, but main knobs for HVAC and volume are nice and big. The interior in this example is two-toned with what looks to be an aluminum-finished applique above the glove box, and more contrasting colors on the seats and doors. One thing that didn't change from the current generation Mazda3 is the red back-lighting on all the gauges, buttons, and knobs that we've come to expect from Mazda. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3">2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04111s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04112s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04113s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010-mazda3-interior-spied/">TTAC</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/13/spy-shots-2010-mazda3-interior-snapped/">Spy Shots: 2010 Mazda3 interior snapped</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Oct 2008 12:33:00 EST. <br />Mazda has already given us a sneak-peak at its long-awaited <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/08/2010-mazda3-unveiled-ahead-of-la-auto-show/">2010 Mazda3</a>, and while we like what we've seen so far, we want more. We know that team Zoom Zoom is adding a new 2.5L engine to replace the outgoing 2.3L engine, and that the full Monte will be shown at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a> next month, but <em>anything</em> more would be great. We came across a short video clip of the Mazda3 in action, but it's 12 seconds long and shows the same three photos we've already seen with moving wheel animations. Needless to say, it's a little disappointing. Now is as good of a time as any to look at the high-resolution pics we do have in the gallery below, and if you need help imagining what Mazda's top-selling sedan looks like in motion, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/10/video-mazda-releases-unrevealing-teaser-vid-of-2010-mazda3/">hit the jump</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3">2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04111s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04112s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04113s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/10/09/video-2010-mazda3-teaser-released/">eGMCarTech</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/10/video-mazda-releases-unrevealing-teaser-vid-of-2010-mazda3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Mazda releases unrevealing teaser vid of 2010 Mazda3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/10/video-mazda-releases-unrevealing-teaser-vid-of-2010-mazda3/">VIDEO: Mazda releases unrevealing teaser vid of 2010 Mazda3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 13:58:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for three high-res images of the 2010 Mazda3</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Mazda has confirmed the time and place for the unveiling of its all-new 2010 Mazda3: November 19th at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a>. In anticipation of the car's public debut, the Japanese automaker released these three images of the remodeled 3 sedan that reveal the car's new design. While the new 3 retains a similar shape as the current model with a high beltline and rear decklid, the new car sports a much more expressive face with a "smile" grille positioned low up front that's flanked by vertical air intake/fog light combos. The front fenders, likewise, are more distinct from the elevated hood and roll nicely back into the car's forward canted character line. Out back are bigger taillights embedded in what appears to be a larger trunk above dual exhaust tips. The overall shape is a logical evolution of the current car that combines current Mazda design elements already found on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/08/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-mazda-rx-8-r3-return-of-the-humme/">RX-8</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/17/first-drive-2009-mazda6/">Mazda6</a> and recently refreshed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-2009-mazda-mx-5/">MX-5</a>. Mazda also tells us that the 3 sedan will carry over its 2.0L four-cylinder, but be joined by a larger 2.5L engine to replace the current car's 2.3L. As for the Mazda3 five-door hatchback, we'll have to wait until some time after the LA Auto Show for that, though we're hoping the new Mazdaspeed3 is not far behind.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3">2010 Mazda3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04111s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04112s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/p1j04113s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Mazda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/08/2010-mazda3-unveiled-ahead-of-la-auto-show/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Mazda3 unveiled ahead of LA Auto Show</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/08/2010-mazda3-unveiled-ahead-of-la-auto-show/">2010 Mazda3 unveiled ahead of LA Auto Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 21:24:00 EST. Based on these very rough outlines, somebody named Pascal Boiss&eacute; from Auto-Motive D&amp;C has <a href="http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/news/article.aspx?cp-documentid=10651469">created a rendering</a> that gives us a slightly better idea of what the new compact car will look like. The results are a bit mixed, with the fenders and greenhouse meeting our expectations, but that happy-go-lucky front end may be a bit off. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/17/spy-photos-mazda3-sedan-wearing-skin-tight-camo/">Recent spy shots</a> don't show the snout protruding out quite that far. We may see character lines along the door's bottom edge, leading up to the rear arches as the rendering clearly shows. What we know for sure is that Mazda has been getting more expressive with its styling, as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/17/first-drive-2009-mazda6/">revised 6</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/26/moscow-2008-mazda-kazamai-concept-officially-unveiled/">recent concepts</a> prove. We'll see the Mazda3 in person at the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> and here's hoping that it's a bit more refined than the rendering above.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/news/article.aspx?cp-documentid=10651469">MSN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/26/rendered-speculation-2010-mazda3-smiles-back/">Rendered Speculation: 2010 Mazda3 smiles back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 20:02:00 EST. When it's black and white tape stuck to the body of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010Mazda3/">2010 Mazda3</a> sedan. The new 3 was recently caught in the U.S. and the new front end is essentially a reworked version of the Mazda6's, with a grinning, two-piece grille split by an angular bumper. Notice the bulges and fairings around the foglamps next to the lower grille, and the way the stretched headlights and flared fenders turn the hood outline into a wild polyhedral. The sculpted leather seats and roomy cabin look a treat as well. Assuming Mazda won't jack up the price or sink the driving dynamics, this could exceed the success of the current car. We'll bring you the full story from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/LAAutoShow/">LA Auto Show</a> in just about sixty days. <em>Thanks for the tip, Kris!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://news.auto.cz/spy/spy-photos-mazda3-sedan-nove-foto.html">Auto.cz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/17/spy-photos-mazda3-sedan-wearing-skin-tight-camo/">Spy Photos: Mazda3 sedan wearing skin-tight camo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 13:29:00 EST. These renderings of the redesigned 2010 Mazda3 were posted in a thread over on carspyshots.net under the auspice of being toy renderings, but our colleagues from Autoblog Spanish did some digging and discovered that Mazda actually owns these images, not some Japanese toy manufacturer. Thus, it's more likely that these are actual renderings of the real, full-scale 2010 Mazda3. Of course, we could all be wrong and these renderings may have been made by a kid in his mother's basement, as the perspective and scale seems off in some areas. Then again, the design they show, which takes a few styling cues from the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Mazda6/">Mazda6</a> and refreshed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/RX8/">RX-8</a>, is right in line with what we're expecting. <em>Thanks for the tip, Galvin!<br /></em><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-renderings">2010 Mazda3 Renderings</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000974795_0001_1_source_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000974795_0001_2_source_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000974795_0001_3_source_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000974795_0001_4_source_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-mazda3-renderings/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/000974795_0001_5_source_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://carspyshots.net/showthread.php?t=1332&amp;page=26">Carspyshots.net</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/11/2010-mazda3-revealed-by-a-toy-not-really-but-kind-of/">2010 Mazda3 revealed by a toy? All of the concepts featured a prominent five-point grille and "flow" inspired creases flanking the sides. In the rendering above, we don't see any of those elements. Instead, it's simply the integration of a few of the cues found on the new Mazda6 and its CUV/SUV siblings.<br /><br />The Brits assert that the next 3 will be built atop the longer platform slated to underpin the 2010 Ford Focus, featuring a more spacious interior with higher quality materials, with a Mazdaspeed version (MPS abroad) that will utilize the 2.5-liter mill from the new Mazda6.<br /><br />[Source: AutoExpress]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/14/rendered-speculation-mazda3-interpretation-gets-it-all-wrong/">Rendered Speculation: Mazda3 interpretation gets it all wrong?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 18:27:00 EST.
