Hot-rod Audis get your blood boiling? Can't argue with the Audi RS5, then. Take one of the most lithe coupe forms you can buy, pack it with the 4.2 FSI V8 found in the base R8, back it with an S Tronic gearbox and lay the power down with Quattro all-wheel-drive. Sounds tasty. The biggest problem with the RS5 right now is that you can't get one.

Dreamers and Germans (and dreamy Germans) can have some fun with Audi's website and set up a Deutschland-spec RS5 just the way they'd like to buy it. A trip to the Konfigurator is a multifaceted gift, too. Not only will you get to gaze at pictures of the RS5 and select from its available options, you also get to learn what Kraftsoffverbrauch kombiniert means. The only thing better would be having the actual car in your driveway.

Good news, Quattroheads: Audi has just unloaded a boatload of new images of the RS5 coupe in red, white and blue doing its thing all over some beautiful roads in Europe. We feel the need to point out where these shots were snapped simply because the German automaker has not yet announced any plans to bring its ubercoupe Stateside. And we therefore shed a tear.

Then again, maybe there's hope after all - we have heard rumors that Audi was at least considering blessing us Americans with the RS5... though nothing substantiated by any other reliable sources. In any case, it's always a good time to gaze upon 4.2 wonderful liters of naturally aspirated goodness with 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque sent to all four wheels, right? Right. Each successive batch of spy shots shows the 2010 Audi RS5 taking shape, and with development churning along at quick clip, we suspect Audi's newest M3 fighter will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Unlike previous images that captured the coupe traveling to and from Audi's engineering center, these latest pics show the RS5 at speed on the Nurburgring, revealing a retractable spoiler similar to the unit fitted on the R8 supercar. It's assumed that the new wing will deploy at a certain speed, and like its mid-engine sibling, expect a button on the dash that allows the driver to choose if the spoiler is up or nestled into the coupe's trunk-lid.

As reported previously, the RS5 will likely be powered by a tweaked version of the RS4/R8's 4.2-liter direct injected V8, sending 450 hp through either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox before reaching all four wheels. Naturally, everything within the wheel wells will be upgraded, and these newest shots show RS-specific calipers in front, with discs barely squeezed into the 19-inch lightweight wheels.

The 2010 Audi RS5 has reappeared at the Nurburgring and these newest images give us the best glimpse yet of the production version of the 500 hp coupe. The standard RS fascia we've seen before is still present, but it's joined by a beefier rear bumper, RS-specific dual oval exhaust outlets and slightly flared fenders. The brakes have grown in proportion to the wheels, filling the inside of the 20-inch lightweight rollers with a minimal amount of clearance, while inside, a set of aftermarket Recaros have been fitted for prototype duty.

Details on the RS5's powertrain are still unknown, but after a spy video surfaced last year, the accompanying soundtrack hinted at a V10 powerplant. We suspect Audi will adapt the RS6's twin-turbocharged, 580 hp 5.2-liter V10 for duty in the RS5, although it's likely to be de-tuned for the coupe. If we were a betting blog, we'd wager the 2010 Audi RS5 is due to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Audi's PR department has continued to toe the line that TT RS is not meant for Stateside consumption. However, MotorTrend's unnamed Audi insiders are saying the 335-hp coupe will make it to the U.S., albeit several months after its European introduction.

According to the report, Audi USA has decided to delay the introduction of the hottest TT so the new 265-hp TT S can gain traction in the U.S. - or more accurately, before the RS variant steals the show. But that's not all we have to look forward to.

The RS5 is still in the pipeline and MT pegs output of the 2+2 at around 500 hp, with a rear-bias Quattro system and a torque-vectoring rear differential joining upgraded brakes and a suitably aggressive body kit. We've already seen spy shots of the RS5 making runs around the 'Ring with its Bauhaus sibling, although there's still considerable debate about what lies under the hood, particularly after a video surfaced of the RS5 taking hot-laps around the Nordschleife.

While we're still suitably cautious about the TT RS' future in the States, Audi is considering bringing over the A4 Allroad - a model that was originally developed for our friends abroad - so there may be hope left for some more RS love in the U.S.

There have been countless conflicting reports about what will power the next generation Audi RS4 and the forthcoming RS5. Fourtitude had heard the rumors and decided to go straight to its sources for clarification. While the four-ringed obessesives weren't able to divulge the identity of their insiders (neither did CAR, which published of one the first stories about future RS powertrains), Fourtitude may have put to rest the rumblings that the next RS4 would ditch it's V8 in favor of a supercharged six.

According to Fourtitude, the 4.2-liter FSI V8 will soldier on in the RS4, and will also find a home in the RS5, which is currently undergoing testing both in Germany and the U.S. While a boost in output wasn't divulged, engineers will supposedly keep displacement the same, while decreasing frictional losses and possibly incorporating a new version of Audi's Valvelift system. If all goes according to plan, expect at least 450 hp from the direct-injected 4.2 and don't be surprised to find the tweaked V8 in the revised R8 around the same time.
