<br />After strapping <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/review-2009-nissan-370z/">two</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z/">separate</a> Autobloggers behind the wheel of the 2009 Nissan 370Z, we feel completely justified in suggesting that the latest Z car is the best yet. It also performs rather well when compared to its closest competitors, and that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/nissan-says-next-370z-to-compete-with-porsche/">includes the pricier Porsche Cayman</a>. Regardless, the current gloomy state of the global economy is just as powerful at dictating sales levels as any given vehicle itself, regardless of how good it may be. This being the case, nearly every automaker has adjusted its sales expectations downward from earlier projections.<br /><br />According to <em>Automotive News</em>, Nissan initially planned to sell 30,000 370Z coupes globally, but it has since <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090414/ANE02/904149995/1193">reduced its expectations</a> by two-thirds. Of the 10,000 370Zs that AN says Nissan now hopes to sell in 2009, 7,000 would be destined for the United States and the remaining 3,000 units would be sold in Europe. The industry publication did not publish Japanese domestic market (JDM) sales predictions for the car (known locally as the <a href="http://www.nissan.co.jp/EN/lineup.html">Fairlady Z</a>).<br /><br />We thought those numbers seemed low, so we called Nissan USA for clarification. According to Darryll Harrison, manager of Nissan's Product Public Relations Group, the Japanese automaker sold 1,452 Zs in the U.S. market (a small percentage of which were older 350Zs) in February and another 1,632 in March in the United States alone. That figure represents about 30% of America's two-door, two-seat sports car market, sales of which generally pick up in the summer months. In other words, Nissan could actually sell well over 10,000 370Zs here in the U.S. in the 2009 calendar year.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-370z/low/">Review: 2009 Nissan 370Z</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/nissan370zfd_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/nissan370zfd_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/nissan370zfd_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/nissan370zfd_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/nissan370zfd_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Nissan, <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090414/ANE02/904149995/1193">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/14/report-nissan-slashes-370z-global-sales-hopes-by-two-thirds/">REPORT: Nissan slashing 370Z global sales hopes by two-thirds... or is it?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 14:39:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Nissan 370Z</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2009Nissan370Z/">2009 Nissan 370Z</a> has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z/">already proven itself</a> as one of the best performance bargains on the market, but for those who crave the wind-in-your-hair experience that only a drop-top can deliver, a convertible variant is right around the corner. Nissan will unveil the 370Z convertible at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NewYorkAutoShow/">New York Auto Show</a> on April 8th, and according to a Nissan designer we spoke to at the 370Z's launch, it's going to look remarkably better than its predecessor.<br /><br />The awkward roof-line and misshapen rear will be dispatched in favor of a more fluid canvas roof, because unlike the 350Z, the 370 was designed from the onset as a convertible. As previously reported, Nissan decided early on that a retractable hard-top was out of the question, primarily due to packaging and weight constraints - not to mention the risk of cannibalizing <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-infiniti-lifts-the-lid-on-the-2009-g37-convertible-w-v/">Infiniti G37 cabrio</a> sales. The 3.7-liter V6 will carry over, along with the choice of a manual or automatic gearbox and Base or Touring trims. Expect a full report from the NY show floor in a few months time.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/">First Drive: 2009 Nissan 370Z</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/01_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/02_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/03_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/04_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/05_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/">2010 Nissan 370Z</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/05_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/2009-nissan-370z-convertible-to-debut-at-new-york-auto-show/">2009 Nissan 370Z convertible to debut at New York Auto Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 21:32:00 EST. <br />Stand on any corner in any city, close your eyes and open your ears. Eventually you'll hear the telltale swell of an engine as someone blips the throttle while braking before the bend. This secret auditory handshake among gearheads signals the arrival of a driver schooled in the art of heel-and-toe. And when the 2009 Nissan 370Z goes on sale in January, you won't be able to tell an aspiring Schumacher from Joe the... shoemaker. Nissan's simple yet brilliant "SyncroRev Match" will relegate the artistry of rev-matching to the annals of motoring history. Other automakers compelled to offer manual gearboxes for the dedicated few will doubtlessly adopt the system, and those of us who care - who've unconsciously conditioned ourselves to crane our heads to catch a glimpse of what's coming - will cease to do so. Progress is a double-edged sword and rarely balanced, but don't fret. The 370Z's overly hyped rev-matching system isn't the end of the world, and it's hardly the best part of Nissan's new Z. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z/">Follow the jump</a> to find out what is.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/">First Drive: 2009 Nissan 370Z</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/01_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/02_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/03_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/04_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/05_nissan_370z_first_drive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2008 Damon Lavrinc / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2009 Nissan 370Z</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-drive-2009-nissan-370z/">First Drive: 2009 Nissan 370Z</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 13:55:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Nissan 370Z live</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />As a rain of ash fell on most of Southern California the crew from<em> </em>Inside Line set out to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/15/video-2009-nissan-370z-revealed-early-in-so-cal/">introduce enthusiasts to Nissan's new sports coupe</a>, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2009Nissan370Z/">2009 Nissan 370Z</a>. The gathering took place at the advertising offices of Chiat/Day, which supplied a striking background for the next generation Z model. First impressions of the 370Z in person were no different than those formed after viewing the initial images. The design intentions, to blend between the outgoing 350Z and stylings pulled from the Z cars of yesteryear, was especially apparent. However, it was certainly strengthened when the new model was parked in close proximity to examples of both the Z33 and its forebears vehicles. Getting a real life view of the new Z was nice, but a vehicle is best defined by the ease of human/machine interaction. The 370Z meet and greet offered the first opportunity to poke around in the coupe. Unfortunately, this blogger did not get a chance to peek inside the vehicle before the Inside Line crew put her on the spot for an opinion. The end result of the interrogation can now be seen on <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=135826?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1.*">Inside Line's preview video.</a><br /><br />After breaking away from the Inside Line crew I eventually secured a spot behind the steering wheel of the Z34. I was most curious about the side view offered by the larger rear fender and C-pillar combination, and as I suspected, the view was non-existent. The rear hatch also angled more sharply than the 350Z, which combined with the 370Z's smaller physical dimensions, meant less space for piling up junk in the trunk. The trunk held other surprise: an on-off switch for a rear differential cooler pump was hiding underneath the mat. The cooler addition is a typical Japanese trick for protecting sporty vehicles from abusive drivers, also known as members of the press. A shiny anodized fitting for an oil cooler was also spotted in the Z's front fender well. The extra hardware prompted rumors and questions about NISMO upgrades, but currently there are no answers on that front. One question that did receive attention was aimed at hashing out more details on the downshift rev-match option. The upkick in the door's edge that leads into the side windows is a particularly nice touch, as is the new steering wheel, revised instrument panel with integrated LCD and dual stitching on the leather dash.<br /><br />More details and pics to come, so be sure to check back tonight for all the techy tidbits. Details have been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/15/inside-line-sees-nissan-370z-in-person-official-photos-coming-o/">mostly speculation</a> thus far, but now some of the rumors can be laid to rest, thanks to information in a photo caption from the LA Auto Show's website. The new Z will reverse the recent automotive trend of bloated model redesigns by featuring a reduced wheelbase and more lightweight body pieces. We also now know that its VQ37 engine will put down exactly 332 horsepower. That is a couple more ponies than are currently produced by the same engine inside the Infiniti G37. For those who like to rest their left foot while driving, a 7-speed automatic transmission will also finally be offered. And for those who enjoy some fancy footwork, but don't have a perfectly calibrated heel-toe, a rev-matching downshift system will be available for the 6-speed manual. <em>Thanks for the tip, RDS!</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/">2010 Nissan 370Z</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/05_2009_370z_press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z-uncloaked/low/">2010 Nissan 370Z uncloaked</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z-uncloaked/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_nissan-370z-uncloaked_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z-uncloaked/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_nissan-370z-uncloaked_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-370z-uncloaked/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_nissan-370z-uncloaked_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.laautoshow.com/Debuts.aspx">LA Auto Show</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/11/nissan-370z-officially-rated-at-332-hp/">Nissan 370Z officially rated at 332 HP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 09:57:00 EST. Our new friend Ryen was able to briefly catch a cloaked mule on highway 60, leading through Phoenix, Arizona yesterday, and although the video after the jump is brief, the VQ37HR-powered coupe does look a bit shorter than its predecessor, lending credence to the rumors we've heard since 2007.<br /><br />As <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/26/nissan-considering-high-performance-v8-version-of-z-car-more-37/">reported previously</a>, the 370Z will be powered by the same 3.7-liter V6 found in the Infiniti G37, so output should be up and over 330 hp, with torque cresting the 270 lb.-ft. mark. The new Z will be shortened by five to seven inches, losing about 220 pounds in the process.<br /><br />Hit the jump to view the video and check out <span style="font-style: italic;">BestCar</span>'s recreation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/26/nissan-considering-high-performance-v8-version-of-z-car-more-37/">here</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-360-the-design-future-and-the-new-z/low/">Nissan 370Z teasers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-360-the-design-future-and-the-new-z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/nissan_370z_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-360-the-design-future-and-the-new-z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/nissan_360_design_studies01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-360-the-design-future-and-the-new-z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/nissan_360_design_studies02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-360-the-design-future-and-the-new-z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/nissan_360_design_studies03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-360-the-design-future-and-the-new-z/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/nissan_360_design_studies04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/spy-video-nissan-370z-caught-in-arizona/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Spy VIDEO: Nissan 370Z caught in Arizona</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/spy-video-nissan-370z-caught-in-arizona/">Spy VIDEO: Nissan 370Z caught in Arizona</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 12:29:00 EST.
