Certain 2009 and 2010 Nissan Altima and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/20/first-drive-2009-nissan-maxima/">Maxima</a> models may be fitted with out-of-spec suspension components that may contribute to an accident. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall campaign (ID #09V358000) to correct the problem in up to 26,398 vehicles. The identified issue is isolated to the upper front strut insulators in both models - the inferior insulators may crack, allowing the struts to move out of position. Understandably, the problem could affect vehicle stability and potentially lead to a crash. <br /> <br /> According to NHTSA, Nissan dealerships will be replacing both left and right side strut insulators at no charge to the customer. While the recall campaign doesn't officially begin until October 5, consumers may contact Nissan at 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261), or the NHTSA's Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for further information. Further details are available in the press release after the jump.<br /> <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima">2009 Nissan Maxima</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/00_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/04_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.safercar.gov/">NHTSA</a>]<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/22/nissan-recalling-26-000-2009-2010-altima-and-maxima-sedans-over/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nissan recalling 26,000+ 2009-2010 Altima and Maxima sedans over faulty struts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/22/nissan-recalling-26-000-2009-2010-altima-and-maxima-sedans-over/">Nissan recalling 26,000+ 2009-2010 Altima and Maxima sedans over faulty struts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 22 Sep 2009 09:00:00 EST. Like the revised Murano, the tweaked Maxima offers more than just new lights. Standard equipment is up, as is horsepower. A standard Maxima 3.5S offers more goodies for $29,290; an '08 equipped the same way would cost nearly $30,000, while the most important metric is the 290 horsepower the fabulous VQ V6 now thumps out. Stepping up a trim level to the 3.5 SV will have you shelling out $31,990, and you can doll it up with sportier suspension tune with 19" rims, super-comfy premium seats, a big 'ol two panel moonroof, and a back up monitor, just to name a few goodies. <br />A new interior design improves upon what the '08 carried, which wasn't bad to begin with, unlike some previous Nissans. If any vehicle can live up to the 4DSC stickers, it's the latest iteration of the Maxima, the car that originated the phrase; to properly carry the moniker, it must. Sometimes it tends to be spot-on in its predictions; sometimes... not so much. Such is the case with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/16/nissans-diesel-maxima-may-be-manual-only/">recent reports</a> that the upcoming clean diesel engine in the Nissan Maxima would be equipped with a manual transmission only. As we reported at the time, a move like that would surely limit the new diesel's appeal to the stick-averse American buying population, and therefore hurt sales. Fear not, slushbox fans, Motive has confirmation from an engineer at Nissan that the Maxima, even in diesel form, will in fact be offered with an automatic transmission as standard. Moreover, it's the shift-it-yourself gearbox that now seems a bit unlikely. As much as we enjoy the thought of rowing our own gears with tons of diesel-supplied torque on hand, delivering the Maxima with an automatic is surely the right choice to make. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima">2009 Nissan Maxima</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/00_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/04_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.motivemag.com/pub/news/Despite_Latest_Rumors_2010_Nissan_Maxima_Diesel_Likely_To_Be_Automatic-only.shtml">Motive</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/18/correction-diesel-maxima-coming-with-automatic-and-em-maybe-e/">Correction: Diesel Maxima coming with automatic and <em>maybe</em> a stick</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 13:31:00 EST. According to Nissan, the diesel engine slated to power the Maxima could come equipped with a manual transmission as its only option. We honestly can't imagine Nissan going through with this idea. Diesels already have a mildly bad reputation in the states due to some of the not-so-great oil-burning products our market has been cursed with in the past, and Americans have a profound penchant for choosing an automatic transmission over a manual. Therefore, endowing the Maxima diesel with a stick as the only option seems like a death knell in terms of sale, although it's probably the gearbox that we'd choose as enthusiasts. Considering how well Nissan has done with its CVT transmission, we wonder if the company could find a way to pair it with the Renault-derived diesel slated for the Maxima.<br /><br />For what it's worth, the Japanese market has not been properly introduced to the diesel engine, either. Nissan's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/06/clean-diesel-heading-to-the-jdm-nissan-x-trail/">first product</a> with a new clean diesel for its home turf will be the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/06/geneva-auto-show-nissan-panders-to-the-extreme-the-new-x-trai/">X-Trail</a> SUV. The assorted powers-that-be at the company have already decided that a manual tranny shall be the only option on that model due to the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DK_YRQmcs0">M9R engine's</a> inherent turbo-lag. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima">2009 Nissan Maxima</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/00_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-nissan-maxima/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/04_09maximab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20080616/ANA03/806160310/1117/OEM01">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/16/nissans-diesel-maxima-may-be-manual-only/">Nissan's diesel Maxima may be manual only</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 Jun 2008 13:31:00 EST. Apparently Nissan's classical conventions have been muddled over the years, so buyers get confused about what the GLE or SL stuck onto the trunklid means. Does it have a CVT? Leather? At least the V6 is easily discerned by the 3.5 badging. The new flavor of alphabet soup goes like this: Base is S, fitted with common options will be the SV, luxury is SL, and people who like to drive will want to keep an eye out for the SR combo; we wonder if the R will be red. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=126533">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/30/nissan-shuffles-trim-level-designators/">Nissan shuffles trim level designators</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 30 May 2008 08:02:00 EST.
