The automotive industry may be in a pickle right now, but the current recession has made for an incredible buyer's market, particularly for anyone who wants a bargain on a performance car. We've seen some pretty amazing deals, like $18,995 for a brand new Mustang GT, and now both General Motors and Chrysler are offering enticing incentives for the Pontiac G8 GXP and Dodge Charger SRT8, respectively. The G8 GXP, already a steal at $37,610, is available with $3,000 cash back in some areas. With a $1,700 gas guzzler tax, the total comes to just $36,310. The Charger SRT8 is an even better deal with its $41,120 MSRP (including gas guzzler tax and destination) dropped all the way to $34,516 after Employee Pricing and $3,000 in cash-back bonuses. Of course, many of the cash-back deals are regional and some are only for brand loyalists or require you use the automaker's financial service for your loan, so not all dealers may be offering these prices, but we're guessing they'll still do just about anything they can to sell you a car.

2009 Dodge Charger details released, including new 368-hp R/T

Chrysler has released official details of its refreshed 2009 Dodge Charger, changes to which most notably include a new-generation HEMI V8 in the R/T model that produces 368 horsepower and 395 lb-ft torque, up from 340 hp and 390 lb-ft. Sounds like someone's going hunting for a G8 GT. The increase in power comes from a new variable valve timing system, and along with the continued use of MDS (multi-displacement system), the 5.7-liter V8 can achieve up to 24 mpg on the highway. The 6.1-liter HEMI V8 in the SRT8 and the 3.5-liter V6 in the SXT model remain unchanged, although the 2.7-liter V6 in the Charger SE drops from 190 to 178 horsepower.

On the outside the Charger gets a new taillamp design and the antenna has now been moved to the rear window. The SE model benefits from the upgraded interior of the R/T including satin silver trim on the door, center console, cup holder, and shifter bezel.
