Michael Gallagher" /><a href="http://www.opgratitude.com/">Operation Gratitude</a> is a nonprofit that assembles and sends care packages to troops serving overseas. To commemorate the occasion of its 300,000th package sent, Jeep ensured that particular box would contain a little extra "Thank You" in the form of keys to a brand new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/377052/">2008 Jeep Liberty</a>. Spc. Michael Gallagher (right), a vehicle commander from Company A, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division is currently stationed at FOB Warhorse in Baquba, Iraq. His name was the one randomly placed on box # 300,000. When informed by his CO that his attendance was required at a ceremony acknowledging the delivery, Gallagher recounts, "I thought it was just another care package and they were making a big deal about it because it was the 300,000th one." When he opened the box to find a letter from Chrysler and the Jeep keys, he realized exactly what the big deal was all about. Spc. Gallagher gets to pick up his new wheels when he returns to the States. While his new Liberty may be "Trail Rated," it won't hold a candle to his <a href="http://www.generaldynamics.com/prod_serv/combat/Stryker/Stryker%20at%20High%20Speed.JPG">current work vehicle's</a> off-road capabilities. Congratulations to him, a tip of the cap to Jeep for making his day, and thanks to the other men and women in uniform serving today. If you're interested in donating time or money to Operation Gratitude, you can get additional details <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.opgratitude.com/">here</a>. <br /><br />[Source: Jeep]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/25/jeep-packs-08-liberty-into-soldiers-care-package/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jeep packs '08 Liberty into soldier's care package</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/25/jeep-packs-08-liberty-into-soldiers-care-package/">Jeep packs '08 Liberty into soldier's care package</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 18:58:00 EST. The Jamboree kids at Jeep would like to give the Wrangler some help, and as such they've decided to price the all-new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-all-new-2008-jeep-liberty-with-sky-slider-ro/">2008 Liberty</a> SUV below the outgoing model by an average of about $1,000. A base 2008 Jeep Liberty 4x2 will carry an MSRP of $20,990, which includes a $660 destination charge, when it arrives at dealerships later this summer. That's $1,270 less than the 2007 model, according to Jeep. The 4x4 model, meanwhile, will start at $22,600, or $1,170 less than the current model. Finally, the range-topping Limited model will start at $25,175 for the 4x2 and $26,785 for the 4x4. The Liberty's 3.7L V6 producing 210 horsepower and 235 ft-lbs. of torque will be a carryover from last year, but the new SUV can now be had with the industry first Sky Slider full-length open canvas roof for $1,200. <br /><br />You can view the new Liberty from a variety of angles in our gallery below, and check out Jeep's pricing press release after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: Jeep]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/">2008 Jeep Liberty</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/19/jeep-drops-price-of-2008-liberty-to-20-990/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jeep drops price of 2008 Liberty to $20,990</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/19/jeep-drops-price-of-2008-liberty-to-20-990/">Jeep drops price of 2008 Liberty to $20,990</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 19 Jul 2007 15:02:00 EST. The Sky Slider can be slid completely forward or back or anywhere in between to reveal the open sky to all occupants. It's like owning a Wrangler without as deep a commitment to open air motoring. Obviously, the Liberty looks completely new for 2008 wearing a more traditional slab-sided Jeep design than the first generation, which was often panned for being too round and soft. The new shape opens up additional interior space, although that rear load height seems awfully high to us. <br /><br />The '08 Liberty is powered by the same 3.7L V6 producing 210 hp and 235 ft-lbs. of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Thus, we expect this new ute that has grown in most dimensions to be a tick or two slower than the current model. It should handle better, however, thanks to an all-new independant front suspension and new five-link rear suspension. Jeep faithful shouldn't fret, however, as the Liberty's Trail Rating is in tact, regardless of whether you choose the hard core Selec-Trac II full-time four-wheel-drive system or Command-Trac part-time four-wheel-drive system. <br /><br />Check out the complete press release on the 2008 Jeep Liberty after the jump and our gallery of high-res images. <br /><br />[Source: Jeep]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/">2008 Jeep Liberty</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jeep-liberty/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/08jplib_hi010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-all-new-2008-jeep-liberty-with-sky-slider-ro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York auto Show: All-new 2008 Jeep Liberty with Sky Slider roof</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-all-new-2008-jeep-liberty-with-sky-slider-ro/">New York auto Show: All-new 2008 Jeep Liberty with Sky Slider roof</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2007 01:15:00 EST. Sullivan emailed us this morning with the photos you see here. During a ski trip to Colorado, John made a stop at the Coors Brewing Company for a tour and noticed what he believed to be a pair of disguised Dodge Nitros outside. He said the drivers were pretty tight-lipped, which comes as no surprise, and since the Nitro's been out a good while now, it struck us as being odd that they'd be tooling around under cover. A closer look at the photos reveals that the camoed-up SUVs in the parking lot are none other than the forthcoming '08 Jeep Liberty, which shares its genetics with the Nitro, likely undergoing high-altitude testing. <br /><br />Note the trademark Jeep grille and round-look headlamps behind the front bra. From the looks of things, the red one's a Limited, given the chrome trim on the liftgate and roof rails. The Liberty should be making its debut soon (New York, perhaps?), and we're looking forward to seeing the finished product minus all the coverup. <br /><br />Thanks to John for sharing his find with us! The enclosed gallery contains high-res versions of both his photos.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-2008-jeep-liberty-1/low/">Spy Photos: 2008 Jeep Liberty</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-2008-jeep-liberty-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/liberty_spy1_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-photos-2008-jeep-liberty-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/liberty_spy2_ab_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/11/reader-spy-08-jeep-liberty-visits-coors-brewing/">Reader Spy: '08 Jeep Liberty in Colorado</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 11 Mar 2007 12:17:00 EST.
