Today's eBay find of the day is a particularly rare Porsche, a 1967 910 Spyder coupe. "Spyder Coupe," you say? But that makes no sense! This particular car began life in early 1967 as the third of five 910 Spyders built by the factory for European hillclimb competition. After winning two of four races in '67 as part of the factory team, the car was rebuilt and offered for sale. It was purchased by John von Neuman, who raced it for the next two years in the U.S.

Eventually, the original Spyder bodywork was replaced with a coupe shell and the car passed through several collections over the next 30 years. It currently resides at Symbolic Motor Cars in La Jolla, California, where we stumbled across it a couple of months ago while browsing. If you happen to be in La Jolla, Symbolic has a pretty impressive inventory; at the time of our visit, it included two Bugatti Veyrons, a Lamborghini Reventon, a 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra and a number of Ferraris whose vintages range the 1960s to the present.

Oh, and the asking price for the Porsche 910? A cool $995,000.
It's got everything you'd expect: great old cars, entertaining period voice-over work, clever needling of the competition from Mercury, Ford, and Plymouth, plus a soundtrack that somehow lends the whole affair a sense of urgency. In fact, after viewing this I felt a strong desire to fly home in a magnificent new Pontiac Firebird...tonight.

Enjoy! We don't actually know how old his dad is, but we know he's old enough to appreciate a classic cruiser when he sees one. The only modifications made to this '67 Impala SS during the rebuild were the addition of Crager rims, Flowmaster mufflers and an MSD ignition. He also painted the car black, which is not its original color. The hue in which the car originally came was Butternut Yellow, an unfortunate shade that surely took away from the car's curb appeal. And curb appeal this car has, as it was chosen because we instantly wanted behind its wheel for a slow cruise down Main Street, punctuated only by the occasional stop light burnout and trail of rubber stripes left in its wake.

All this week we'll feature unrelated rides that catch our eye, but we're returning with a theme next week and that theme is "Best Autocross Car". If you've got a hot AutoXer, join the Autoblog Flickr Pool and submit your ride for consideration. More detailed instructions can be found after the jump.
Continue reading RR of the Day: '67 Impala SS

RR of the Day: '67 Impala SS originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 Nov 2006 18:01:00 EST. This '67 Camaro SS 396 was purchased for $800 back in 1986 and it's been a personal project of Flickr member BinCali ever since. It was wasting away in a car port that BinCali passed on his way to work every day until that fateful day twenty years ago when he struck up a conversation with the owner that lead to the title transfer. In the 20 years BinCali has owned the Camaro, he's stripped it down to "every last nut bolt," performing all the work on it himself except the paint. The 396 motor actually displaces 402ci now, while BinCali has worked to restore other items of the car, like the interior and the exhaust, to their original factory specs. As if the Camaro weren't enough to impress this crowd, the car in the background is an ultra rare right-hand drive 1971 Holden Monaro GTS, one of about five in the United States. It makes us wonder what else is in BinCali's garage.

Follow the jump for more pics and BinCali's complete list of mods.

This week we're choosing a Camaro each day for the RR of the Day feature, and we need everyone who owns a Camaro to submit his or her ride. We want to make sure all five days are filled with interesting F-bodies, and to do that we need a great group of them from which to choose. At the moment, it looks like we might not be able to fill the week, so help us do just that by submitting your Camaro or encouraging your friends to submit theirs. Just follow the jump to find instructions on how to submit your ride.
Continue reading RR of the Day: 1967 Chevy Camaro SS 396

RR of the Day: 1967 Chevy Camaro SS 396 originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 24 Oct 2006 09:59:00 EST. Not only does this car exist in the upper echelon of Camaro annals, it also happened to be the subject of the very first piece of automotive journalism I ever penned, so it gets extra points from me for personal nostalgia. Though Kyler has performed many mods beneath the car's skin, the sheetmetal is nearly factory stock, as is the interior. This was a fantastic generation of Camaro design and Chevy was right on to use it as inspiration for the Bow Tie's pony car revival in 2009.

As we said, Kyler's made many mods to up the power and civility of this nearly 40 year old car, including a 385 stroker motor, Flowmaster exhaust, T56 transmission, MSD ignition system, 4.10 gears, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, and 17-inch wheels. He's been careful, however, to keep every part he's replaced tagged and stored in the garage, including the original engine. But Kyler promises he's not yet finished with his '67 Camaro RS/SS, and the car's suspension is the next on his to-do list.

Check out more pics and Kyler's complete mod list after the jump.

The theme for this week is Camaros! Everyone with a Camaro of note should submit his or her ride to our Flickr pool. We're starting to collect some nice Camaros in the pool right now, but we want to make sure the entire week is filled with interesting Camaros, not just your neighbor's '97 F-Body. Losing such a wonderful car is badenough, but sentimental reasons meant that the vehicle was truly irreplaceable. Purchased as a $1,000 basket casewhile Matt was in high school, the restoration was a father-son project; with the elder Frame latersuccumbing to cancer.

While searching across eBay a couple of weeks ago, though, Frame came across a familiar-looking car whilebrowsing eBay. Located in Crystal River, FL, the current owner apparently (and understandably) denied that it wasFrame's car. That is, until Frame popped the center caps to reveal his name and contact information.

This is the second story in a month that involves a first-gen Camaro and a father-son connection; in March,Anthony McCoy was reunitedwith the '69 Camaro that was built for him by his since-departed dad.

Regardless of where readers come down on the Iraq War debate, most can agree to appreciate the sacrifice andcourage required to be a soldier in the U.S. Armed Forces. That's what makes a new Associated Press article about areturning car-crazy Indiana National Guardsman so uplifting.

39-year-old reservist Spc. Bob Metcalf, returned from a one year stint in Iraq to a surprise gift from friends andrelatives: his basket-case 1967 Plymouth Barracuda restored in gleaming, patriotic style. The once rusty and fenderlessmusclecar has been reworked featuring a sparkling blue paint job with red and white stripes. In Overhaulin'-esquefashion, volunteers worked for six months to realize "one soldier's dream."

Congratulations and kudos to all involved... and for any readers that come across pics of the Mopar in question, please feel free to tip us off.
