Suzuki Auto Show Coverage

Suzuki is the automotive division of Suzuki Motor Corporation based in Hamamatsu, Japan. Michio Suzuki founded the company in 1909 producing weaving looms, then explored producing a passenger car in 1937 before the onset of World War II. After the war, Suzuki began developing motorcycles and eventually cars with the introduction of the 1955 Suzulight. The company entered the US market in 1985 with the Samurai and produced vehicles for other manufacturers under contract like the Chevrolet Sprint, a rebadged version of the Suzuki Cultus. American Suzuki Motor Corporation filed for bankruptcy protection in 2012 and announced it would no longer sell new vehicles in the US. Its Canadian operations folded a short time later.

Official: Suzuki Vitara shows its face ahead of Paris debut
    1409232600

The death of Suzuki's American automotive operations can be chalked up to many, many things. One thing it cannot be blamed on, however, is the arguable goodness of its products. The company's criminally underrated offerings included the Kizashi sedan, the SX4 compact and your author's personal favorite, the Grand Vitara. The GV rode on a radically ...

Two Wheels: Japanese motorcycles moving into forced induction
    1385852580

While turbocharging and supercharging may be nothing new in the automotive industry, motorcycle engines are almost always naturally aspirated. But even that's beginning to change. At the Tokyo Motor Show last week, two major Japanese companies showed off new forced-induction motorbike engines. Kawasaki rolled in with a supercharged four-cylinder ...

Tokyo: Suzuki brings slew of car and bike concepts to Tokyo
    1385153100

As an automaker, Suzuki may be long gone from American shores, but it's still a force to be reckoned with in its home country of Japan. At this week's Tokyo Motor Show, the brand known as much for its two-wheeled fare as its four displayed a slew concept vehicles for both drivers and riders. The first is the Crosshiker concept (above), which Suzuki says ...

Suzuki EXTRIGGER concept makes a monkey of electric motorcycles
    1383157800

Small is big, monkey bikes are the new black. After years of being relegated to cob-webbed tales told by speckled-bearded men that begin with "Back when we was kids..." (and typically involving a Honda Z50 soaring skyward to miraculous heights), the petite low-power/high-fun concept is making a comeback. The latest sign of this renaissance is the ...

Official: Suzuki previews Crosshiker, X-Lander, Hustler ahead of Tokyo
    1383070860

With the Tokyo Motor Show looming on the horizon, Suzuki has revealed a trio of concept cars it will present at the expo. First up is the Crosshiker concept, a compact crossover that looks good enough in metallic red, but in its essence reminds us of the oft-maligned X-90 convertible crossover coupe. Based on the G70/Regina concept, the Crosshiker packs ...

Frankfurt: Suzuki iV-4 Concept is a personalized 'ute for everyone but US
    1378934460

It's with some sadness that we present to you the Suzuki iV-4 Concept – there's absolutely no way we'll ever see a production Suzuki based off this conceptual design in the States, despite the fact that the brand has quite a small-SUV heritage on our shores. Of course, we won't be seeing any new Suzuki passenger cars or trucks in the US at ...

Shanghai: Suzuki Authentics Concept is genuine but drab
    1366480740

Looks can certainly be deceiving. Have a glance at this new Suzuki Authentics concept, for example – we were told that this would, essentially, be a proper sedan version of the new SX4, but our folks on the ground in Shanghai tell us it's actually much larger. Like, bigger than the Kizashi. (Hey, remember the Kizashi?) Regardless, Suzuki says that ...

Teased: Suzuki offers sneak peek at Authentics concept for Shanghai
    1364749020

Suzuki has prepared the C-segment Authentics concept for the Shanghai Motor Show, a preview of a sedan that would slot into the fattest chunk of the market among China's car buyers. Suzuki hasn't given away much, saying only that it is "Sporty x Elegant" and that it's long and low and has a "rich and fine curved surface." PaulTan.org says this is the ...

Geneva: 2013 Suzuki SX4 gets new generation to carry on without us [w/video]
    1362571200

Despite the fact that the coffin has been sealed on Suzuki's US automotive arm, the brand is carrying on elsewhere in the world. The first new product to spearhead the Japanese automaker's product offerings in Europe is this SX4 crossover, making its official debut here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. You may remember the little SX4 as the cheapest ...

Teased: Suzuki teases production C-segment crossover, could it have saved them in US?
    1360173660

Suzuki may be retreating (amidst booming sales) from the US market, but its efforts to woo European buyers are still going strong. Witness as proof these shadowy teaser images of the automaker's new C-segment crossover that it plans to unveil at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Until the official debut, we've got just a few tidbits of information to ...

Paris: Suzuki sallies forth with new C-segment crossover with fishy S-Cross Concept
    1348736520

It's not what we'd call attractive, really, but at least the new S-Cross Concept is something fresh from Suzuki. Introduced to the world at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Suzuki says the pale green machine previews its upcoming production C-segment crossover. We hope some of its fishier elements – according to Suzie, the specially created Crystal Green ...

Report: Larger SX4 to lead raft of new or revised Suzuki models
    1346338860

A few weeks ago, we showed you what is likely in store for the next-generation Suzuki SX4, but What Car? now has some insider info of what might be in store for other products in the aging Suzuki lineup... at least in the UK. When the official design sketch of the Suzuki S-Cross concept was released, Suzuki said that the concept car would be a C-segment ...

Official: Suzuki previews new S-Cross compact CUV ahead of Paris debut
    1344609840

Despite having one heck of a lackluster presence here in the United States, Suzuki still manages to do well in other markets. That in mind, the automaker continually releases new products and concept cars at international auto shows that aren't destined for U.S. consumption, but this might not be one of those times. The aging SX4 crossover is in need of ...

Confirmed: Suzuki Regina concept renamed G70, production version coming?
    1328400060

The Suzuki Regina concept shown at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show was an unusual little car. We don't want to get our hopes up about production (especially since we'd probably never get it in America anyway), but the Regina will return to the spotlight at the Geneva Motor Show with some tweaks that have us wondering if Suzuki plans to actually build the ...

Suzuki debuts range-extended Swift EV Hybrid
    1322830440

Suzuki hit the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show with a small flotilla of green-minded vehicles, including the Swift EV Hybrid. According to the company, most Swift buyers travel between 12 and 18 miles per day, so engineers designed this range-extended EV to cover that distance on pure electric power. Tokyo: Gas-sipping Suzuki Regina Concept begs for production
    1322784000

There's something about the Suzuki Regina Concept that we like. A lot. For starters, it has a white roof. What's cool about that, you ask? Well, after Ford stole the idea from Mini for the Flex, nothing. But darn it if it doesn't look good here. With those rear fender skirts, we're actually seeing a good bit of Citroën DS in Suzuki's stylish ...

Suzuki Q Concept is long on cute, short on range

If this year's Tokyo Motor Show is going to live up to its reputation for wacky, it's because of the Suzuki Q Concept.
