Scion Auto Show Coverage

Scion is a brand of youth-oriented automobiles operated by Toyota. Founded in 2002 specifically for the North American market, the brand launched with two models that were direct imports from the Japanese domestic market. The lineup has since expanded to include the mini iQ and FR-S sports car.

Detroit: Scion FR-S drift car looks like 600-horsepower fun
    1326145320

The Scion team is still giddy about the FR-S, and we can't blame them. We were in the mood for 200 horsepower and 2,700 pounds, and the FR-S is ready and willing to tickle our fancy. So it was understandable that Scion didn't have an all-new model to show us this week at the Detroit Auto Show, but Toyota's car-loving brand did provide a taste of the FR-S ...

Badge engineering is the ironic label for when a company replaces the badge or branding of a product with that of another and considers it something new. Domestic automakers like Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have been vilified for their overuse of this practice. Then again, they weren't often badge engineering rear-wheel-drive sports cars (though ...

Sibal, who's brought a range of vehicles to Vegas in the past, partnered up with Veilside and Mike Vu (above right) to create one particularly ...

SEMA: Scion iQ Pit Boss by Cartel and iQ-MR by Tatsu are a wild bunch
    1320186600

Scion has turned its newest model, the iQ, over to some of the most ambitious tuners in the U.S. for SEMA 2011, and the results do not disappoint. Cartel has gone crazy with the company's miniscule hatchback by turning it into a wild paddock service vehicle. With storage for tools and tires as well as a custom chop-top design, the Cartel Scion iQ Pit Boss ...

    1319819460

Scion is headed to SEMA 2011 with a total of seven concept cars tuned by some of the most creative customizers around. Cartel, Dynamic, 686, Michael Chang, Jon Sibal and Tatsu have all turned their attentions toward the automaker's lineup, and the results are as varied as the shops that built them. The newest addition to the Scion stable, the tiny iQ, ...

Spy Shots: Scion FR-S getting ready for race debut at 'Ring
    1318538640

Remember how the Lexus LFA race car debuted long before we ever saw the final production car? Well, it appears that parent company Toyota is planning to pull a similar stunt with its FT-86 Scion FR-S coupe. Here, we see a racier FR-S prototype being prepped for this weekend's German VLN race at the Nürburgring. Even with the revised wheels, front ...

Report: Toyota and Subaru to unveil production sport coupes in Tokyo?
    1305923400

The wait is over... almost. According to a report from Inside Line that jives with what we've been hearing ourselves, Toyota (or Scion, or both) and Subaru are set to use the Tokyo Motor Show to jointly unveil the hotly anticipated rear-wheel-drive sport coupes that they have been working on together since what seems like the beginning of time. Yes, ...

Video: Scion FR-S Concept shows off its curves
    1303345620

Concurrent with its debut at the New York Auto Show, Toyota has released two videos (one long, one short) of the Scion FR-S Concept. While neither of them show the "friggin' really sweet" Scion in motion, you do get a tantalizing glance at the promised front-engine, rear-wheel drive coupe's spectacular Lexus LF-A-aping curves. New York 2011: Scion FR-S Concept is "friggin' really sweet"
    1303324980

Another auto show, another version of Toyota and Subaru's joint partnership rear-wheel-drive sports car. We saw Toyota's FT-86 II concept in Geneva earlier this year, along with the chassis for Subaru's version of the car. Now here in New York, Scion has taken the wraps off of its FR-S, a sexy little number that rides on this same platform. FR-S, which ...

Scion FR-S Concept leaks ahead of New York unveiling
    1303307340

The Toyota FT-86 is continuing its long, painful march towards production at the 2011 New York Auto Show. As previously rumored, the rear-wheel drive wonder may sail under the Scion badge if and when it actually shows up on dealer lots, at least that's what Toyota seems to be hinting at with this latest concept car. The 2011 New York Auto Show is just a week away and the world's automakers are gearing up to reveal some eagerly anticipated new models. Rumormill: Toyota bringing Lexus GS, Scion FT-86 to New York Auto Show
    1299803040

We've gotten word from a very reliable source that Toyota is planning two big debuts at the New York Auto Show, although neither is wearing a ToMoCo badge. First up is a fully redesigned Lexus GS, something that we've reported on and spied before. Although it's unclear whether the GS we'll see in NYC is a concept or a production model, we do know that ...

Scion sales down 20%, but "we have the exact customer we want"
    1295018940

A chat with Scion Vice President Jack Hollis was probably the biggest 'Let's get something straight' moment we had at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Sales were down 20 percent in 2010, the new 2011 tC didn't get the warmest reception from its former proponents, and the perception is that Scion is losing a grip on its youth-oriented message. Hollis sought to ...

Scion's 2010 SEMA lineup: Sneak Peek
    1288396620

Scion invited us to its art gallery in Culver City, California last night, for a chance to preview part of the lineup it's bringing to SEMA this year. Parked out front was an xB that was transformed into a limo by Cartel Customs. The concept of a Scion xB limo sounds ridiculous, but in person it's ridiculously awesome. Report: Toyota FT-86 to be badged as Scion, retail for $25K

When the Toyota FT-86 concept was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, we were surprised and delighted at the prospect of an attractive, rear-wheel-drive 2+2 with a $20,000 price tag. Could we just as excited for a $25,000 RWD Scion? We may not have a choice. The Wall Street Journal reports that Toyota management told dealers in Las Vegas there will be a ...

New York 2010: Five Axis mods the 2011 Scion tC

Yesterday, Scion revealed their brand spankin' new 2011 tC to the world's automotive press here at the New York Auto Show. We happen to think the car looks just fine, but will admit that for a youth oriented brand such as Scion, a little bit more aggression might have been nice. New York 2010: 2011 Scion iQ is a little intriguing
    1270070700

Well, well, well – it looks like Toyota's iQ is coming to the U.S. after all, only it will be (as reported) sporting a Scion badge. Makes sense. Especially as according to Scion, the world's smallest four-seater is aimed squarely at a very young demographic. Not just young, but hip and urban, too. In fact, we were told that the iQ represents a "new ...

New York 2010: Scion reveals better looking, more powerful 2011 tC
    1270061940

The big reveal for Scion at the 2010 New York Auto Show is staring you square in the face. Meet the 2011 tC. Scion describes the car as defining "refined aggression." They called it, "masculine," too. Even though the new car borrows fairly heavily from the 2006 Fuse concept (not to mention the outgoing tC), our collective jury is still out on the refined ...
