Rolls-Royce News

Rolls-Royce is a British brand of high-end luxury automobiles. Founded in 1906 by Henry Royce and Charles Rolls, the company also made engines for planes until 1973 when the divisions were split into separate companies. Rolls-Royce purchased rival Bentley in 1931, and the two operated together until the Volkswagen Group bought both in 1998. The Rolls-Royce name, however, was not part of the sale. BMW licensed the Rolls-Royce name from its original owner and currently operates the brand.

    1351776540

Befitting a creature called the Ghost, it was there and then it wasn't: Rolls-Royce dropped a few details and a picture of the 2013 Ghost, then removed all trace of it from the corporate site. The Internet can't keep a secret, though, so we have the goss on a carryover sedan with a few upgrades. Next year's model takes its inspiration and several new ...

While it isn't that uncommon to see cars belonging to celebrities and dignitaries roll across the auction block these days, this car is a little extra special. This particular 1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was the car that Prince Charles and Princess Diana arrived at the White House in during a visit in 1985. As some added trivia, this was also the visit ...

    1349911800

While all the gory details surrounding the new Rolls-Royce coupe – including its true name, "Corniche" is just a savory-sounding best guess right now – are still shrouded in mystery, this new set of clandestinely foraged images proves that the car probably won't be a slouch in terms of performance. The Ghost-based Roller was spotted on the ...

Global sales rose 14.3 percent last month, to 146,843 units, on strong sales in China and global sales of the 1 Series small car (pictured). That brings BMW's sales through nine months up 8.6 percent, to 1.11 million vehicles. Meanwhile Audi ...

    1348177500

Rolls-Royce announced that it will be bringing some "art-deco inspired" cars to the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and while we really have no clue what that means just yet, we're sure the cars are going to be very expensive. The images show what appears to be a stylized Rolls-Royce Phantom or Ghost in an artistic rendering that would look at home in South ...

Report: Rolls-Royce planning one or two new models based on the Ghost
    1346279460

Fourteen years after Volkswagen bought Bentley, its English brand has two distinct lines, Mulsanne and Continental – with numerous variants at the Continental's lower price point – an SUV on the way and perhaps a sports car and a Mulsanne convertible, too. In the 14 years since BMW bought Rolls-Royce, its English brand has the Phantom and ...

Cars of the 2012 London Olympics Closing Ceremonies
    1344878880

There may not be an Olympic sport involving automobiles (yet), but cars were featured prominently in the closing ceremonies of the 30th Olympic games in London last night. The event was more of a rock concert than a ceremony, with musical performances by everyone from chart-topping boy band One Direction to pop veteran George Michael to The Who. The stage ...

Report: Ghost Coupe to be fastest Rolls-Royce ever
    1344186720

Autocar has snapped spy shots of a Rolls-Royce Ghost Coupe, and judging from proportions the car will be so long in front and raked in back that it would make Dick Tracy whistle. We'll get the true story on that at next year's Geneva Motor Show, which is when Autocar says it's due to be revealed, but what's less in question is this: with a 6.6-liter, ...

Spy Shots: Corniche Comeback: New Rolls-Royce coupe spotted testing
    1343225580

It's been over a decade since Rolls-Royce last offered a Corniche, which was the company's name for its unibody coupe and convertible models since the early 1970s. But from the looks of what our photographers recently snapped in Munich, that drought may soon be over. What they've spied is the 2014 Rolls-Royce Corniche coupe, a forthcoming model based on ...

Official: Giles Taylor succeeds Ian Cameron as head of Rolls-Royce design
    1340891880

Back in the day, a Rolls-Royce looked pretty much the same as a Bentley, but with a different grille. Once BMW took over Rolls-Royce, however, it was faced with the challenge of visually separating itself from its former sister brand. And most would agree that it did so pretty well. But its cars have looked pretty much the same ever since. What Rolls-Royce ...

Nissan Patrol rides in with Rolls-Royce getup
    1340645460

We hardly have words for the machine you see above. On the one hand, we adore the Nissan Patrol with every last ounce of our little black hearts, and there are only a few itches a good Rolls-Royce can't effectively scratch. So, you'd be forgiven for thinking the progeny of those two players would be automotive nirvana for us. As is so often the case, ...

Official: Rolls-Royce opens flagship showroom on Long Island
    1339264920

A modern Rolls-Royce is big. Really big. The standard-wheelbase Phantom is closer to an full-size SUV in size than it is to an ordinary sedan. And the extended-wheelbase model is an astonishing 20 feet long. Hence, Rolls-Royce needs some big showrooms, and the one you see above is its biggest yet in all of North America. The new Long Island showroom in ...

Official: Rolls-Royce invites customers to dine on its assembly line
    1339156860

Automotive assembly plants have a reputation of being crusty, grungy places – often in stark contrast to the new cars they're assembling. But the truth is that modern auto plants are surprisingly clinical in their cleanliness. These days, you can almost hear company officials boasting that their assembly lines are almost clean enough to eat off of ...

Report: Martin Scorcese to produce Silver Ghost film about Rolls-Royce

This could be interesting: Oscar-winners Martin Scorsese and Richard Attenborogh are teaming up to make a film called Silver Ghost, based, in part, on the lives of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce. Official: Rolls-Royce makes room for updated Phantom Extended Wheelbase in Beijing

Considering how short some product lifecycles have become, it boggles the mind to think that Rolls-Royce has had the Phantom on the market for nearly ten years now. And with the next-generation model not expected to arrive for another few years, the model that relaunched the brand under BMW ownership stands to reach its Bar Mitzvah before it's replaced. ...

Official: Rolls-Royce showcases Ghost Six Senses concept in Beijing
    1335220800

"Stock" is a relative term. Stock cars, for example, like those raced in NASCAR, are anything but showroom stock. And at the opposite end of the spectrum, "stock" is just the starting point when ordering a new Rolls-Royce. The high-end marque offers its customers a virtually endless array of personalization options, and to drive that point, home ...
