iPhone Dev Team unleashes Pwnage Tool 2.0 {Engadget}
Jul 19th 2008 11:59PM I have a simple question.
When I finally decide to buy an iPhone 3G and install the soon-to-be released jailbreak and unlock for a Windows user, and I'm breaking away from ATT, which carrier should I go to? I haven't taken the time to do my homework on who has the best plans, but I know enough to know I don't want to get raped by ATT, so which carrier will it be?
Thanks in advance for the responses (assuming I get any) :)
Nikon D700 gets real: full-frame, 12.1 megapixels {Engadget}
Jul 1st 2008 12:40AM Don't feel bad for scooping up the D300, that's still a bad ass camera.
For those unfortunate souls who find themselves mistiming their purchases of a DSLR or point and shoot camera, the DPreview forums are your friend. They can also be your enemy, but once you learn how to tame the fire breathing trolls and sort through all the disinfo., the real info. can help you make very well informed decisions, and maybe even help you become a better photographer.
Here, I'll even give you a nice headstart on who's posts to watch in the Nikon Forums on DPreview, Watch Thom Hogan's posts, and Jeff-C. There are some other veterans in there who have access to some inside info. and post very rarely as well. But just by watching some of the threads these folks get involved in, you'd have known about these kinds of upcoming announcements very well in advance.
Happy Hunting.
Nikon D700 presentation video revealed early, it's very nice {Engadget}
Jun 30th 2008 10:34PM The Euro/Dollar transfer doesn't really apply in this circumstance.
It's been stated by a number of folks who simply point out the Euro/Dollar transfer for previous cameras, and one can conclude that the € to $ are almost identical.
Besides, with the Nikon D3 costing around $4,500, it would make no sense for them to introduce the D700 with only a $500 difference.
Not to mention the fact this is intended to appear as the competitor to the successor of the Canon 5D, that won't be feasible with a cost that's more than double the current 5D.
I expect the cost will be below $3,000.
Details emerge on Apple's acquisition of chip designer P.A. Semi {Engadget}
May 8th 2008 12:51AM I've been really interested in this development since it first broke.
With so very little known about the plans though, it's difficult to determine what motivated Apple to do this in the first place; discounting the profits and pure technological superiority it could potentially hold.
I do think it's safe to say they wouldn't make this move unless they knew it could benefit them, and hopefully by extension, their customer's greatly.
Not to mention it also allows them to regain a little bit of that hush hush M.O. they so lovingly prided themselves on.
Panasonic's flash-based HDC-SD9 HD camcorder gets reviewed {Engadget}
Apr 17th 2008 10:53PM The SD9 has been getting horrible reviews everywhere.
It hasn't even been out for 6 months and Panasonic has had to drop the price a couple hundred already.
Matsushita/Panasonic needs to step their game up, seriously.

Apr 5th 2008 11:11PM Ha, people rambling on about the appearance of the product rather than its capabilities.
I understand that the appearance of a product in some professions actually does have an impact on productivity, but not with something like this. Sure, you're free to give your opinion on it, but you sound really foolish when you discount its capabilities in the process.
Those kinds of comments remind of people who just buy stuff and let it sit somewhere as a visual reminder of what they own; conversely serving as a visual reminder to others of what they have no idea how to use.
Panasonic's 17-inch BT-LH1760 production LCD costs $5000 {Engadget}
Feb 20th 2008 1:18AM Look.
I know Panasonic has ideas for life and all, at least that's their slogan.
But why do they insist on continuing to push innovation only when the beneficiary are the wealthy and/or corporate-industrial executives?
They are no different than Sony in this regard, and it irritates me to no end.
I don't want to hear from anybody who thinks just because Panny makes decent camcorders that they are conscience of what the customers need.
They aren't.
They might have a few individuals in R&D and marketing for an isolated department who know how to shake things up, but it certainly doesn't represent the business as a whole.
Panasonic needs new ideas.
Nikon D300 gets reviewed {Engadget}
Jan 21st 2008 9:44PM @ Temple,
Your explanation of the variables that differentiate the sensors between the D2x and D300 is incomplete and somewhat misleading.
You seem to be mistaking the D2x for much older Nikon DSLRs.
Prior to the D2x, there were no other CMOS based DSLRs in Nikon's arsenal, it was the first, and until the D3 and D300 came along it was their only CMOS DSLR.
Although, the D2H LBCAST sensor was believed to have been a derivative of CMOS technology.
Never the less, the D2x was a 1.5x CMOS and it was 12MP, so it's easy for others to assume the D2x and D300 share the same sensor. Both sensors are fabbed by Sony, although the D300 and D3 sensor have some very different CMOS designs at the gapless microlens and circutry level to help seperate them from the D2x, allowing for much greater image quality, particularly at higher ISOs.
My primary point was to clarify that the differences between the D2x and D300 go much deeper than CCD vs CMOS and MP count. It is new CMOS technology coupled with new image processing and overall better performance from AF among other improvements.
With this in mind, it should be interesting to see how the successor to the D2x improves upon current trends and what they have in store to compete with the ridiculously popular Canon 5D and/or its successor.

Jan 19th 2008 3:06PM For reallyreal.
One way fascism succeeds is by creating an internal, as well as an external threat.
In order to create paralysis among the sheep, you must make them fear everything around them.
Have them in fear of terrorists from overseas, and make them fear these "cyber terrorists" at home, as well as abroad. Don't be a sheep, don't fall for their tricks, think for yourself, and don't live in fear.
Poll: Did you pre-order a MacBook Air? {Engadget}
Jan 15th 2008 9:26PM I honestly anticipated more for less.
It has an appealing form factor, but beyond that, it simply just doesn't seem worth it.
What went wrong?
