BMW plans 500 Electric MINIs for California {Autoblog}
Jul 9th 2008 1:49PM All the negativity on the blog is really irritating. A lot of the crap posted on this thread isn't even related to the Mini. I'm off to the forums on miata.net - at least they have some constructive criticisms.
States start paying people to buy new, cleaner cars {Autoblog}
Jul 1st 2008 10:10AM The problem with this is that people who don't take proper care of their vehicles with regular oil changes will be rewarded for their neglect.
No surprise here: Expedition, Navigator production stopped for nine weeks {Autoblog}
Jun 17th 2008 8:23PM I do agree that in most instances Americans want larger vehicles but I wonder if the technological innovations can keep up with the rising cost of fuel. A $52k Yukon Hybrid is an option for only about 25% of the population unless you want to forego that tuition plan for your kids.
An EV Suburban-sized vehicle (if one existied) will be very expensive for quite awhile.

GM to begin pushing its hybrid SUVs hardcore {Autoblog Green}
Jun 9th 2008 10:39PM I think I would rather have a 6 passenger, 25mpg (as measured in Automobile magazine long term road test) Mazda 5 for about half the price.

Jun 6th 2008 11:21PM Great....So instead of a combined 14 mpg with regular unleaded it will get 11-12 mpg with E85.......What a joke on the consumer and taxpayer who forks over the $0.51/gallon subsidy...........
Asian brands beat Big 3 sales in May {Autoblog}
Jun 5th 2008 1:56PM The thing I am still bitter about regarding the domestics was the half-a**ed efforts that put out with their small cars and their assertion that small cars aren't profitable.
The Aveo is mediocre; the Focus is a car that dates back to 1999/2000, the Cobalt is a very weak entry, and the Caliber is low quality. Then they have the stupidity to kill the Focus hatch and wagon and never even offer those body types on the Cobalt.
I remember not along ago that U.S. auto execs were "bragging" that gasoline costed less than bottled water.
Who is laughing now?
Almost every European and Asian automaker got their foothold in this market via small cars so that part about them being unprofitable is bogus. It's just there way of saying "we aren't very good at making small cars."
Meeting new CAFE regs will cost Detroit double what it costs the Japanese {Autoblog Green}
May 27th 2008 9:46AM I think the assumption with those numbers is that with the current size and acceleration figures of what is being produced now. That ignores the easier way say downsizing the average auto size by 10% with the same reduction in engine size. This actually works the other way by costing the manufacturers and consumers less.
So let's see more small pickups and less F-150s. Who really needs a V6 Altima sedan with loads of torque steer when a CVT 4 cylinder gets almost 30 mpg combined and had more than adequate acceleration? Corollas don't need the option of having a 2.4 and neither does the Scion Xb. Hopefully CAFE will cure some of this madness.........

May 23rd 2008 1:33PM The average U.S. driver goes about 13,600 miles per year - the old 12,000/year just like the old 3k oil change rule is outdated.
