VW Rabbit gets a carrot from Consumer Reports {Autoblog}
May 11th 2008 8:06PM The atrocious fuel economy isn't surprising given it's a VW. I don't know why, but every one seems to be sub-par for the pack.
It's that which made me decide not to bother looking at a VW.
Now, for reliability, as much as I've heard about them being poor, my neighbor bought a VW Beetle (new one), and the only thing ever done to it was routine maintenance and her husband installing a few (dozen) aftermarket parts. She traded it only because of it's fuel economy, and went with a Diesel Beetle. Which, at 200k, has only been down for a new timing chain (when first bought) and other routine items, as well as aftermarket parts.
The only other experience I have with a VW is my brother's old Bug he was given. It wasn't running, but it was free. What'd you expect?

May 11th 2008 7:54PM First off, to the guy who thinks a sportscar has to be fast, this IS a true sportscar. Designed purely around handling. Sportscar = handling. While a sportscar can be awful fast, like a Corvette, GTR, or a Porsche 911, it is meant to handle well.
I'm actually more interested in the hard top than the engine. I'd like a MX-5, but don't want a drop top for a daily driver. I want a RWD, 4 banger car which can turn out decent fuel economy, and be fun to drive. The MX-5's only lack is the lack of a true coupe. If I wanted a second car, a drop top wouldn't be bad, but for a daily, give me hardtop or give me something else!
Rendered Speculation: MG TF is coming... {Autoblog}
May 8th 2008 7:42PM Which is the same as saying not all Rover 75 were front drive.
Spy Shots: 2010 Chevy Cobalt {Autoblog}
May 8th 2008 7:37PM GM should make a friggin' hatch regardless of what it looks like.
The HHR is hideous. It should not have ever existed. The Cobalt should have came with a 5 door option. My only complaint about mine, which is due to the design of the car, is the fact it is not a hatch/wagon. Then there's the slush-box, but it's actually a decent trans, I just hate slush0boxes and have regretted buying this one for that one fact.
Offer a stick, and offer a wagon/hatch.
Chrysler criticized for $2.99 gas, Suzuki jumps on bandwagon {Autoblog}
May 6th 2008 7:11PM If Toyota or Honda had came up with a similar scam (and Chrysler's is a scam, by virtue of requiring a credit card), it would be brilliant and proof of Toyota/Honda's concern for their customers; glass camshafts and spontaneous combustions notwithstanding.
Hard times means some Icelanders can't keep on truckin' {Autoblog}
May 4th 2008 7:49PM Suddenly I want to go to Iceland. And I couldn't care less about the trucks.
GM CEO Wagoner declares that EVs must be affordable to the masses {Autoblog Green}
May 4th 2008 12:15PM Not only do they need to be affordable to the masses, they need to be practical as well. The EV1 was not practical, and would not sell in quantity. An Electric version of the Astra, on the other hand, with around 100 mile range, would have me installing the 220v plug by the end of the day, just to get ready for it.

May 4th 2008 12:13PM Hey, I learned to drive from that movie, and Blues Brothers!
I'd love to have one, preferably blue with t tops. They might leak, but then it'd be a Sunday driver anyway; the tops would be on in a garage, not while I'm in it. I'll shove an LS1/6 speed combo in it though, for better fuel economy.
Project Track Slut, Part One: Pick a weapon on the cheap {Autoblog}
May 3rd 2008 1:25PM I agree. It's a car, one specifically built with spirited driving in mind to boot. It is meant to be driven, and quite able to be driven at an AutoX.
If I couldn't drive a car, I'd crush it instead. No sense letting it sit for eternity.
The Truth About Smart: fortwo rumors dispelled {Autoblog}
May 2nd 2008 7:07PM Why are there italics everywhere?
The Smart, regardless of what it is or does, does not do it well. You trade in space for what exactly? The Fit, Versa, Aveo, and Mini all offer 4 passenger capacity, more cargo space, similar (or better!) fuel economy, and marginally better styling (Aveo offers better styling only than a Yugo, but the Mini is decent looking as is the Versa). For similar or less money too boot.
I could not do with a Smart, because I haul too many groceries, and do have a need to haul around 3-4 people; and do not see the need to waste money and the material and environmental costs to build and buy a car that I couldn't use but once or twice a week maybe.
