MSI Wind gets official pricing and availability for the US: $399 {Engadget}
May 13th 2008 4:42PM I am presuming that this uses the lower end of the 2 Atom CPUs?
Why is Linux not offered with the larger RAM and BT?
Why no WiFi?
What's the screen resolution?
With a few spec corrections this looks interesting. Wonder what the size and weight is?
Poorly-translated rumormill: VW to build Porsches in U.S. {Autoblog}
May 13th 2008 12:34PM Wanna bet they also consider selling Bentley to relieve CAFE pressure?
Poorly-translated rumormill: VW to build Porsches in U.S. {Autoblog}
May 13th 2008 12:33PM Porrsche have a huge CAFE problem in about 5 years. They also now own a substantial minority of VW Group. Thus if Porsche took their stake up to a controling 51% would Porsche be able to take the average CARFE of VW+Audi+Porsche and survive this way?
House: House's Head {TV Squad}
May 13th 2008 10:06AM House and Amber appeared to be sitting opposite each other rather than togehter. Had he been in a tryst whatever sysmptons he finally observed would have been seen much earlier in the evening and a taxis to the hospital would have been more appropriate, rather than wait for a bus.
Did I mention Cuddy is "HOT". WOW!
Terrifically well acted ep.

[SPOILER ALERT] Turkish Grand Prix was dog gone good {Autoblog}
May 12th 2008 8:55PM You nailed it Billy. F1's future is likely to be in Asia and Russia and China. Eventually this will leave a massive hole which another series will gratefully fill. Unlless of course both Bernie and Max are retired ASAP. Time for new F1 managment which looks to building a future embracing it's core fans not moving away from them.
[SPOILER ALERT] Turkish Grand Prix was dog gone good {Autoblog}
May 12th 2008 5:06PM Brett,
Kimi was off the race leaders pace as he finished third. Massa looked to have lots in reserve, so why bother to put down a one off fast lap? Massa anyway beat KR in qualifying. Hamilton on a 3 stopper convincingly drove aropund Kimi and the latter could not respond.
In summary it's about race pace that KR seems to lack versus the top 2 finishers and most specifically his team mate. I am searching for the reason for this.
[SPOILER ALERT] Turkish Grand Prix was dog gone good {Autoblog}
May 12th 2008 1:39PM Massa was the best driver on track (IMHO) ALL weekend. He qualified upfront and lead the race easily and likely had a lot in hand which he didn't bother to show.
HK also qualified faster than LH, but hisrace was ruined by LH clipping his rear wheel,causing s slow puncture, necessitating an early stop under green.
LH's race was very very professional and he managed to see off KR impressively. BUT the reason why he was put on a 3 pit stop sequence b4 the race (and he carried less fuel than his faster team mate in qualifying) was that his particular driving style caused sidewall tire delamination issues. Thus he had the choice of changing his style into the mid/slow paced corners, or McLaren mandating the shorter stints to replace his quickly worn tires. This indicates that while LH is a superb FAST driver he cannot yet change style, as and when a particular course mandates it.
Meantime I am wondering why KR was so far off the pace of his team mate in this race.
Sprint dropped 1.09 million subscribers in Q1 {Engadget}
May 12th 2008 11:29AM I have been a Sprint wireless customer for 8 years. I have no major problems with their service.
The problem I have had is their totally disrespectful attitude when ones contract co0mes up for renewal. Consequently I have degraded from4 phones (in the family) to one only from Sprint.
When contracts end I have mostly been offered relatively poor renewal deals and a more or less take it or go away attitude. Then I get the follow up call asking me why I dropped phones... Totally pointless.
In one case a contract for one phone (on retention scheme) ended and the user was awaiting the launch of a specific phone slated for 2-3 months away. What did Sprint do? They doubled or near tripled the monthly charges, out of contract, because that user would not immediately lock in a new contract and gie up on their desired phone. End result that family member moved immediately to AT&T, saying he would NEVER go back to Sprint.
My wife and my phones came up for renewal and I was offerd a a terribly expensive contract. No amout of talkinmg got Sprint to budge an inch, despite my 7+ years of continous service from Sprint. End result I did the math and moved my wife to a prepid service with T-Mobile. I also opened a pre-paid phone for 3 months and morped my Sprint number across to it. I opened a new SERO acct with sprint and moved the phone number back.
End result is that Sprint, over a year, lost 75% of my family business and they kept calling asking Why? And only then offered deals to get us back.
Sprint needs a more appropriate SOP to make long term customers feel the renewal experience is satisfactory and offer long term customers an edge to make them feel wanted. It's no surprise to me that despite a decent technical service, Sprint bleeds customers.
ASUS Eee PC 900 now available {Engadget}
May 12th 2008 11:07AM This 900 will be an initial "sell out" as those who must have it NOW jump in.
After a month or two at most the selling will slow down as majority of potential buyers weigh the cost of this against a similar HP model.
This will likely force Asus to quickly get more price competitive when the Atom powered machine debuts, in order not to lose sales to HP. IF HP are very clever they too will switch to the Atom CPU and then the price war will begin in earnest.
I sold my 701 in anticipation of the 900 model and still basically want the 900. But I am willing to wait a month or two to see all this play out.
