Design student found guilty of blackmailing high profile car designers {Autoblog}
Feb 12th 2008 8:44PM Attended Academy of Art College for Automotive Design. Left after 2 years.
You'd be *amazed* at how much certain concept cars look suspiciously like student projects I've seen over the years of following/studying automobile design. Uncanny resemblance is common. And of course, classes are often attended by industry insiders and designers, who help students along with their projects.
I always just kind of accepted it as part of the game. *shrug*
Rumormill: Leno or Seinfeld could host NBC Top Gear {Autoblog}
Jan 31st 2008 12:57PM I was just going to make this comment. Damnit.
The salaries that Leno, Sinefeld, and Allen would command would bankrupt any TV budget. Maybe they'd do it for less cash because its something related to their love of cars, but I cant see people who are used to making 1M+ an episode all working together on the show.
Personally, I don't want to see a hot car chick on the show. Not because I dont like hot girls that are into cars, and not because I dont believe there are any hot girls that are into cars, but simply because the addition of 'eye candy' to the show sort of cheapens the whole thing. Every time they put some 'hot' girl who's into whatever the subject of a given show is on television, the show devolves into fan service and tit jokes. Disappointing.
Furthermore, Top Gear has always been about ridiculous acts of male bonding. I'm sick of everything being gender-equal and politically correct. Why cant a couple of guys get together and be car nuts and not feel guilty about it?

Jan 17th 2008 11:49AM As much as I hate to admit it, Bob is right on this one. (Not that I think Bob is often wrong, I just wish he was in this case).
Wagons in America are dead. Its a crying shame, since they're awesome cars that do everything 95% of SUV buyers want their SUVs to do, while getting better performance and economy. Most wagons also look hot, especially the sporty ones. RS4 Avant? Legacy Spec-B Wagon? Etc.
Personally, I blame Clark Griswold and his ill-fated road trips for the modern anti-wagon stance.
Same thing goes for hatchbacks. We don't get the nice hatches here for the same reason we don't get the nice wagons here: for some ungodly reason Americans equate anything with a hatch to cheapness, dowdiness, and/or low social status. Of course they're really just practical as all hell.
Maybe someday, things will change. Maybe CAFE standards and the EPA will crack down on SUVs so hard that manufacturers cant afford to keep all but the most work-oriented models in their lineups. Maybe then we will see the return of the wagon to mainstream car culture.

I'd love that drivetrain in a car half the price. -_-

More like "young girl's dream" really. This thing has chick-car written all over it. Its so cuuuuuuuuuuute, and its easy to drive!

Jan 14th 2008 11:53AM Finally. 2.0 TFSI + quattro on a US-bound car.
Thats the combo in the S3, and available in base TTs in Euro-land.
The 2.0 TFSI is an awesome motor, but who wants it mated to a FWD-only car?

Detroit '08 Preview: Mazda Furai breaks cover! {Autoblog}
Dec 28th 2007 4:57PM RX-10, anyone?
You know, Mazda and Ford have a degree of partnership. Ford has a bit of knowledge when it comes to high end MR halo cars (GT?). They also have a history of platform sharing. 3/Focus 6/Fusion, CX-9/Edge, 2/Festiva, etc, etc, etc.
Maybe its not totally far fetched. They have legitimate heritage for a high-end MR sportscar with the 787B. Obviously it would be in omfgicouldneveraffordit price territory, but if they only built 500 and called it a day, that would rock.
In the meantime, please please please give me a new RX-7 so I can trade in my S2000.
