Automakers losing interest in performance hybrids {Autoblog}
Dec 29th 2007 10:27AM Hybrid sports cars make sense if you consider them in the same light as hybrid SUVs, a way for eco minded people to look like they are trying to save the planet, while getting less MPG than a diesel equivalent.
The real advantage to a sports car with a hybrid engine would be the instant torque available to the drive through the electric engine. However I think the real alternative to a hybrid sports car will come the day Audi decides to drop a diesel into the R8
Crazy rich guy attempts to legalize Ferrari FXX for the street {Autoblog}
Oct 30th 2007 11:15AM Following the completion of the FXX project, which is happening soon, or has already happened (FXX evo [read FXX V2.0] being revealed by ferrari recently) FXX owners may take their cars home.
The intention was to give the owners the ability to take their cars to track days at their leisure, but if someone wants to federalize their car for the road, more power to them.
as for the question of "why in Switzerland?" Many racing drivers and celebrities live in Switzerland, due to its dedication to personal privacy.
Breaking: Toyota F1 to sign Timo Glock for Ralf Schumacher's seat {Autoblog}
Oct 12th 2007 2:49PM Why would Toyota hire a rookie?
What Toyota needs is an experienced driver, like Barrichello to help them develop the embarrassment they have now, into something that can realistically win races.
With all their money they can easily afford to build a competitive car, but without a skilled and experienced driver to help them work out the kinks they will never progress beyond the middle of the pack.
Fernando Alonso returning to Renault in 2008 {Autoblog}
Oct 11th 2007 3:46PM The first question is: if Alonso is getting equal treatment from McLaren, why would he leave for a team which is struggling right now?
The Second Question is: why would McLaren want to loose one of its two amazing drivers, who would have won them a Constructors Championship had it not been for the illegal actions of one employee (especially considering that without Alonso or Hamilton Ferrari would have won the constructors easily)?
I strongly believe this is all BS, propagated by lazy and uncreative "journalists" who have nothing better to do than speculate idly.
SSC (almost officially) takes top speed record {Autoblog}
Sep 14th 2007 11:30AM I think its cute how everyone seems to be forgetting that the Veyron has never made an official top speed run, and was never officially the worlds fastest car.
The Veyron was designed as an engineering experiment and showcase, not as a top speed contender.
Frankfurt Preview: 2008 Mazda6 breaks early {Autoblog}
Sep 6th 2007 11:39AM If it comes in AWD I may have to re think what I am replacing my current Legacy Wagon with in 2009.
Subaru pares down Legacy, Outback offerings for 2008 {Autoblog}
Jul 16th 2007 9:57AM I can't see Subaru doing this frankly. This means, with the demise of the Impreza wagon that the only wagon left will be the Outback, which is priced significantly above the current Legacy Wagon.
I hope Subaru continues it's current trend, of treating the US and Canadian markets differently...
Porsche GT2 brochure leaked with official specs, pics {Autoblog}
Jul 13th 2007 8:37AM The last 2 GT-2s were "widow makers" because they didn't have any sort of electronic stability control, and dumbassed bankers and executives bought them because they were the most expensive car in the Porsche lineup...and crashed.
Now with PSM, PSAM, SC and TC the car can be more tame...and will be able to make up for the mistakes of people with more money than brains.
Hopefully this will prevent this GT-2 from becoming the depreciation disater the last one was.
Dyno Dino: Baby Ferrari test mule spotted {Autoblog}
Jul 11th 2007 2:26PM Ferrari is about being exclusive...the factory already sells every car it makes, and there is a long waiting list for all of its models.
Why would it need to produce anything else? This speculation is as silly as the "Rockster" BS which was circulating in the spring.
2008 Porsche 911 GT2 spotted Stateside {Autoblog}
Jun 27th 2007 10:00AM I think Autoblog has it backwards...Based on the disguised 996 GT2 from the early 2000's, I think the rear wing will remain as is on this car, and the rear bumper will change.
The rear bumper looks too tacked together and unfinished to be put into production. I would expect an evolution of the 997 Turbo's bumper, possibly with 2 exhaust exits per side, keeping inline with Porsche's other maximum performance cars.
