GM's $39 billion loss further explained {Autoblog}

Nov 8th 2007 3:03PM The losses are carried forward to count against profits, when they are once again realized. However GM has not yet shown a net profit to offset their loss totals. In the past these numbers have not shown on the balance sheet. However recent changes in accounting standards have stipulated that the numbers need to be reported if they cannot be used as an asset within a particular time span.

Not Quite eBay Find of the Day: Paul Walker's 2001 R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R {Autoblog}

Oct 18th 2007 12:02PM Hmm apparently Autoblog comments don't like it when you try and make a sideways heart.
Anyway you know I heart Paul Walker...

Nissan goes viral for GT-R with The Black Mask Project {Autoblog}

Oct 11th 2007 4:10PM I'm sure this idea was spawned by Nissan's ad agency Chiat\Day. I can think of better viral marketing for the GT-R though, all it would cost Nissan is one free GT-R.

Jalopticons swell in rank {Autoblog}

Oct 4th 2007 1:04AM It is more fun to play with GT-Rs than have one of your own, or so I have learned. If I want a new GT-R I need more parking spaces... I'd rather have the Bugatti Veyron I saw in the garage tonight though.

Thanks for the shout out.

Spoiled Brats: Forbes makes teen-car wishlist {Autoblog}

Mar 8th 2007 12:34PM I see that a lot of people make the argument that teenagers shouldn't be given a new car. They need to learn the responsibility of financially funding an automobile by themselves. While many people have gone that route and now appreciate the struggle they went through. It is not feasible for a lot of people.

All through high school and college I swam competitively. That meant early morning practices before school and long practices ever afternoon following school. It also meant weekends spent at swim meets and/or more practices. I had no time for any job, my spare time was spent sleep, eating, or doing homework. Plus I was pouring all my effort into a sport that had little to no possibility of providing any sort of monetary compensation other than college scholarships. They don’t give you cars with college scholarships. The only people that could give me anything were my family otherwise, thanks to NCAA regulations good bye, NCAA eligibility.

When I was 16 I got a new car, a sporty car, an Acura Integra Type R. My parents didn’t want to wake up at 4am and drive me around. They did not want to get me a used car with unknown history and without the most recent advancements in safety. They knew I was responsible enough because they had taught me well. In fact my father, being the economist, realized that funding a new car for me was an investment in my future. I took that car and went to the drag strip. I started running track days on road courses when I hit college. Now I am out of college. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and I design automotive performance parts because my father bought me a car when I was 16. I don’t think he wasted his money.

There are probably plenty of other people who have been in the same situation I was in growing up. It is not necessarily a bad thing for a parent to give their child an automobile. Also no matter how someone obtains a car it doesn’t mean they know how to drive it.
