VIDEO: New BMW 750Li and 730d out for beauty shots {Autoblog}
Jul 6th 2008 1:03PM It wasn't a bad design until I saw the video ... that front end is awkward. Is it just me or have there been very few exciting model releases recently? Alot of new cars have lost something ... and it's good looks. Is it the pedestrian crash regulations that are forcing all these awkward looking front ends ... like on this thing and the new Accord? What gives?
More details on the "all-new" BMW 7 Series {Autoblog}
Jul 3rd 2008 7:18PM Is it just me or does it look like it's really jacked up in the air ... like it's trying to be tall like a crossover? I actually like that look, I don't care for low riding sedans. But this design doesn't really move me or grab my attention. It's not bad but the photoshopped spy pics interpreted something much more exotic looking.
$90m upgrade to Cobo being pushed as automakers drop out {Autoblog}
Jun 27th 2008 10:41PM Detroit is a third world dump. I grew up in another third world dump called Toledo not too far from Detoilet and I have many fond memories of going to the Auto Show. It was the one event that I looked forward to all year long.
With that being said, the city is a colossal embarrassment to what is still a great auto show. I can't imagine what all the reporters think who are visiting America for the first time and their first impression is the broken down buildings, empty skyscrapers and blight of Detroit. For foreign journalist eager to get their first taste of America they probably would find a parallel experience in Darfur, and better weather.
As much as I love the Auto Show, Detroit hardly represents the center of the automotive universe anymore, and it's time to move.
Officially Official: Mercedes-Benz unveils 2009 SL63 and SL65 AMG {Autoblog}
Feb 8th 2008 2:13AM This is the Mercedes equivalent of the Acura RL redesign. It's uglier than before ... and looks like a cheapo design. The 3 spoke steering wheel is really ugly. Bring back Bauhaus!
Chicago 2008: Acura reveals 2009 RL with more style, more power, more... {Autoblog}
Feb 7th 2008 11:19PM Acura now has two of the ugliest (and most overpriced and just plain wacky) near luxury vehicles ever manufactured in the history of the universe. Ever. I thought the RDX was a complete screw up but sheeesh ... this thing takes the cake. Why even bother with a redesign when this is the result? There is no compelling reason to buy one unless you like having the SH-AWD. And even then, how many people will ever really utilize the technology that comes along with SH-AWD? A GS350 or Infiniti M is a far better (looking) deal if you need awd. But if you want real luxury wait for the Genesis. The 10k you save will buy a nice home theater.
REPORT: Cadillac CTS Coupe to start production in 2009 {Autoblog}
Jan 20th 2008 12:43AM I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm no fan of the American metal but some of these new designs from GM are simply Beautiful both inside and out. This one is just plain stunning and it's hard to believe they are going ahead with production. It's rather angular so I can see how some might not like it but good grief, to these eyes it's a sculpture in steel.

Jan 13th 2008 12:40PM Lol. Two polar opposites ... our most talented American turnaround artists dancing next to the worst and most corrupt mayor in America.
Ed Peper to ZR1 detractors: "Bring it." {Autoblog}
Dec 22nd 2007 12:59AM I love this new attitude at GM ... this has to get the rank and file fired up when the high ups start publicly calling out the world best sports cars. It seems like the ZR1 might have the goods to back this trash talk up. Go Go GM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tesla Motors founder Martin Eberhard fired! {Autoblog}
Dec 3rd 2007 1:04AM While it's unfortunate that one of the minds that got this off the ground is now being forced out, we shouldn't be surprised if there is more turmoil to come from Tesla.
The car industry is probably one of the most inaccessible industries in the US. And starting a manufacturer from scratch to build a series production car is a monumental undertaking for even a large company. All the engineering and expense required to meet regulations is tough enough never mind engineering a car that will work as advertised and preparing for possible future litigation for the guy that gets electrocuted trying to jump start their friends Kia with the 1.21 "jigawatts" of battery juice available in the Tesla.
It doesn't matter how deep the pockets are of the people funding the company, making a car company successful is the trick. And as we've seen from GM and Ford throwing massive amounts of money at "losing" cars, we know money does not = success.
The British seem to be far more successful than us at having a cottage car industry. Ever heard of the TVR, Noble, Morgan, Lotus, Ascari etc. I don't know what the reason is but I would imagine that they aren't buried in government regulation and/or they have car building in their dna. Whatever the reason, they sure seem to have more niche supercars.
GM exceeds Malibu sales expections in the first month by, oh, 2,500 cars {Autoblog}
Nov 25th 2007 10:10AM I haven't been looking at GM's sales numbers lately but that sales number sounds awfully low. For 150 million dollars worth of ads they only could get 3000 sold? GM obviously low balled how many they thought they were going to sell, expecting the best but preparing for the worst. Granted, that's the first month of sales but that's usually when the all the hype helps to move cars but this is probably one of the best gm cars to come down the road in a long, long time. Certainly one of the few in my lifetime that "seems" as nice as the japanese competition and one of the first in a long time that I would be interested in purchasing. All forms of GM marketing are in bad need of an extreme makeover with a better focus on the demographics of their marketing area. I live in a large city with almost no blacks and almost every ad I see on t.v. has black actors, black sports folks or black voiceovers. Hey gm, how about marketing cars to whitey? I did hear that gm recently fired/forced out their America marketing executive, who was black, so maybe that's one of the reasons for all the ads. The new Cadillac ads seem pretty classy though.
