Jul 22nd 2008 12:13AM I guess I should clarify my comments. My comments about Auto Vs Manual are just that. Manual Vs. Auto. They have nothing to do with the GT-R. If you look back at past comments about the GT-R I have nothing but good things to say about it. I just get sick of people calling people idiots because they call the trany in the GT-R and auto. The fact is, it is an AUTO.
But I have nothing but respect for all the engineering in the GT-R, trany included. It just isn't for everyone.

Jul 21st 2008 4:01PM 2004m3driver: Your absolutely right. A driver that is capable of all aspects of driving isn't anywhere near as qualified as one that only drives with two pedals and flicks their finger on the paddles to shift.
Please.. Your comments sound more ignorant then mine simply saying that auto gear boxes are boring. I never said people who can drive a manual (properly) are more skilled.
Now go back to driving your boring E46 SMG. :) BTW: I have driven one on track.

Jul 21st 2008 12:11PM Pete: I fully understand how DSGs work. Probably better then most of you. Do you have to press a clutch? Do you have to match revs? Do you have to physically select the next gear? No. This all happens automatically. Sure you have to press a button to give it your final approval. But this is very far from a manual gearbox.
I think the difference here is you have two types. You have point A to B drivers and then you have driver drivers that will go from point a A to S to S then to B. They will also take their cars to AutoX and track events. Man even drag strips are more fun with a manual. Trying to get the perfect launch. Again.. I must be stupid for wanting to do all the work myself.

Jul 21st 2008 11:54AM Why do we drive cars? For fun!! I don't care if I shift 150ms slower then an "AUTOMATIC". It is boring!! And the comment about the rest of the world not caring about manuals. Are you out of you mind? Most of the world likes their manuals. It is America driving all cars to be automatics. I feel sorry for the rest of the world that has to suffer due to the mommies and daddies who seem to thing their kids are safer not messing with a shifter. Now we have a generation that can't drive. I feel bad for my son. He isn't going to have the option of driving a manual.

Jul 20th 2008 11:55PM What isn't automatic about it? It automatically preselects the next gear and then automatically disengages one clutch and engages the next. Hmm.. I guess I am an idiot too. If it lacks three pedals it is BORING. Trust me. I have driven fast cars with these newer auto boxes and they are only fun for a day (ok, not that long) and then you wish you could go back to three pedals.
