Mitsubishi L200 Savana snorkels into Brazil {Autoblog}

Mar 27th 2008 8:56PM Sure, and blame it on carmakers' greed, as only the high taxes fail to justify this absurd

In the UK a Type R Civic, much more expensive and techinically refined than the EXS, even being assembled there in UK paying lotas of taxes too, and even with the higher wages earned by the UK workers, costs less than BR Civic, it costs 25000 Pounds, or 75000 Reais, so, less than the EXS here

Of course no one will "Give" cars and the main target of every single enterprise is the profit, for sure, but here in BR the carmakers especially the japs, are digging deep and taking the most of this "hype" for jap cars

Mitsubishi L200 Savana snorkels into Brazil {Autoblog}

Mar 27th 2008 8:48PM As previously siad, the price is so high just because every single car here in BR pays from 35 to 50 % in taxes, the automotive tax itself accounts for "only" 10 to 20 % of the price, the rest is the cascade effect of another taxes which incide over the labour, material and production costs (the state of São Paulo, for instance, has the highest service and merchandise tax between the Brazilian states, reaching 12 to 25 %, needless to say that tax evasion here in SP is one of the highest, too)

Then, aside this factor, BR market is passing through a japanese "hype", even with waiting list for some Honda and Toyota cars (Fit and Civic, Hilux and Hilux SW4, respectively) and exploring this, they're raising their prices, for instance Fit, Civic and Corolla had their prices raised almost 50% in the last 4 years, while the average car prices raised less than 20% in the same period

Fiat could shift Alfa Romeo production to N.A. for sales in U.S. {Autoblog}

Dec 28th 2007 9:16AM Here in Brasil, as mooj said, ethanol comes from sugar cane, which doesn't require too much fertilisers or a nutrient rich soil to grow, and even considering the burning, it's still efficient

And there's no relation between debt and ethanol, national debt exploded between 1995 and 2002 when we had probably the worst president ever

From 2003 and on, things are getting better, the president is much, much more efficient, and launched fiscal control programs, since then debt is being reduced consistently

Now, back to the energy subject, the current government started a new Biodiesel project, processing diesel from "babaçu", "mamona" and other nuts that grow on poor areas affected by the drought, therefore giving an opportunity to poor people improve their income, and so, bringing technology and wealth to these areas

From Jan. 1st and on, our diesel will contain 2 percent of these local produced biodiesel, in 2010 they could improve this percentual to 10 or 15 %, it will only depend of the production capacity

And, about the sugar cane ethanol, there is a project that produces energy from processed sugar cane rejects, they call biomass, and is yet to be implemented in large scale, as of now, it only exists in a few plants, but is promising

Analysts Gone Wild: Could VW buy Chrysler? {Autoblog}

Dec 3rd 2007 7:06PM Well, more than 2 decades ago, VW bought Chrysler's Brazilian operation, in fact they even produced some rebadged Dodge Polaras for Latin American market, after this they simply ended the Dodge lineup here, and so, for more unreal this rumour could be, at least they're not quite "unfamiliar"

Fastest Lambo Ever: Edo Competition hits 214 MPH with LP640 at Nardo {Autoblog}

Dec 1st 2007 8:28PM Anyway, how these guys (Simyar or Mayer) got a Reventon a month before the official launch ? Is he a member of Lambo's "VIP club" ?

Fastest Lambo Ever: Edo Competition hits 214 MPH with LP640 at Nardo {Autoblog}

Dec 1st 2007 5:34AM In fact he has a Reventon, at least is waht appears on his site, supposedly last updated in August 11, so, if he can afford a LP640, he could afford a Reventon, too, probably

Nov 30th 2007 9:28PM AB commenters:

Assuming that you've entered that guy's personal site, and being a gearhead, did you noticed one thing ?

Besides the LP 640 that guy had a Reventon back then in August (at least his site says it was last updated in August 11) !!!

I can't believe, sure he has a lot of cash, really, to afford a car like that, plus a Reventon, unbelieveable

Raikonen's F1 title questioned, then confirmed; McLaren to appeal {Autoblog}

Oct 22nd 2007 8:58PM We shouldn't be cynical, FIA allowed hamilton to do several things that the same FIA disallowed other drivers in the present and in the past

For instance, someone above claimed that hamilton "lost the momentum" in this last weekend race start, after both "cavallinos" took the positon ahead of him. So, what you think about that clamorous start at Italian GP (Monza) when hamilton aligned his car pointed inside, and simply cutting Massa's front, clearly blocking, or, the Safety car incidente, remember, 12 yrs ago, Schumi was penalised with a black flag in (where else could it be?) British GP when he passed Hill during the formation lap for a while

And, we're not even taking into any account the shame of that judgement where mclaren drivers escaped unhurt of the spy issue

though they didn't find any specific F2007 parts into the MP4 22 project, for sure the main advantage was taken in how the tyres were used, hence mclaren used Bridgestone for the last time in '01 season, it might be a completelly different car, but as they knew how a team that uses the tyres for almost 6 years, it's clear that they've learned how to make better use of them in the MP4 22
