Volt SS? Chevrolet considering turbocharged 1.4-liter for Volt {Autoblog}

Volt SS? Chevrolet considering turbocharged 1.4-liter for Volt {Autoblog}

Jul 22nd 2008 9:42AM If the IC engine doesn't matter then why bother with one at all? a 30-40 mile/50-60km range is perfect for most commuters and for urban living, stick the electric drivetrain into a commuter sized vehicle and you're done.

Jul 22nd 2008 9:37AM If it doesn't matter what IC engine is installed then why have one at all? A 30-40 mile/50-60km battery range is perfect for most commuters and urban living. Just stick the electric motor into a commuter sized vehicle and you're done.

In the name of faith: GM dealers buy $1M in GM stock {Autoblog}

Jul 17th 2008 3:23PM This sounds great, but only 20 dealers bought in, that’s hardly a show of support given the thousands of dealers in the US alone.

Have a listen to the July 13 podcast of CBC’s The Sunday Edition for a decent discussion of what’s wrong with the auto industry, globally. It is in the context of GM’s most recent problems, but they are also not shy about criticizing Toyota, who’s just as much to blame for what’s wrong with the industry.

Further proof that future Fords will have Euro flair {Autoblog}

Jul 17th 2008 9:39AM This is a non-story ... a quick google will show you that Alan Mullaly announced these plans/intentions back in Sept 2007, and perhaps earlier. That makes this news about a year old.

DId I miss something, where's the 'further proof'? Just because Automotive News reports an update on an old story does not make it 'further proof'.

Jul 10th 2008 2:38PM ... can't stop myself ... channelling Benjamin Franklin ... you'd better review your revisionist history, but it's well established that most of the so-called founding fathers were deists.

And … uh why are you spewing this filth on Autoblog, a place where the converted typically believe in fossil fuels, fossils being impossible under the Christian Bible?

Job and brand cuts from GM on the horizon {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2008 10:07AM You need to start looking outside North America. The 'domestics' are really international companies, like Toyota, Mercedes, etc. This is a long talked about and over due decision that’s needed. What’s the big deal if GMC is killed and they start selling the same trucks as Chevy’s? They pretty much already do. The Saturn and Vauxhall brands should die, just finally brand them as Opel’s (yes I know, most Saturns today are Opel themed and not really Opel’s, yet). They’ve done great reinventing the Caddy brand. There’s no need for Pontiac or Buick except for the dealers and China. Corvette doesn’t fit with the Chevy brand and is really a brand in itself – you move the Sky/Solstice, and Camaro over with minor restyling and you have something akin to an American Porsche brand. Saab lost its Saab-ness, so it’s dead. As much as any guy loves a Hummer, the trucks are just sad. You can keep some regional brands because they’re too valuable – e.g.: Buick in China, Holden in Australia, but you do your best to merge the products with the rest of the world.

Also, you can’t blame one thing, it’s not Wagoner, corporate culture, dealer network, the unions, big oil, trade protectionism, or market forces – it’s a combination of all those issues.

First Drive: 2009 Chevrolet Traverse {Autoblog}

Jun 30th 2008 3:21PM This ‘genius’ doesn’t care about what the EPA thinks, in the real world, and lets assume we have the same V6 engine in each vehicle, any time you have a larger/heavier/less aerodynamic package, mileage will be worse than with the smaller/lighter/more aero package. So, no I’m not suggesting V6 sedans will go away, but I’ll repeat what I said before ‘you’ll finally start to see some rational thinking on vehicle sizes’ which means the V6 sedan will be one of the alternatives people will start to look towards. You’ll also probably see the 4cyl versions of the sedans take up more of the sales mix.

First Drive: 2009 Chevrolet Traverse {Autoblog}

Jun 30th 2008 1:47PM I doubt you’ll see a next generation of the Lambda “CUV”s with those optimistic EPA mileage numbers and pitiful real world numbers. With fuel prices expected to stay put, you’ll see people not only ditching these fuel suckers, but you’ll also see the people ditching their boats/trailers and cottages because they can no longer afford the $200 per weekend just to visit the cottage and/or fuel up the boat. Presto! You no longer need towing ability. And for those who have more than 3 kids, you’ll finally start to see some rational thinking on vehicle sizes.
