Report: Ferrari wants Alonso and Kubica for 2010 {Autoblog}
Aug 14th 2008 3:05PM Last time I checked, Alonso was two-time world champion. People around here sound like he's a nobody who never won anything against any worthy opponents.
Some beat Schumacher, some choke 18 points in the last two races and lose the title. Not everybody can.

From the Monegasque Rumormill: Alonso to Ferrari in 2010 {Autoblog}
May 28th 2008 1:09AM @fm:
Alonso signed with McLaren right after winning his first championship. At that time, there was the feeling around the paddock that Renault could leave F1 -yes, even after winning both the drivers' and builders' championships. While Alonso might have rushed his decision, it's not like he did anything amazing. He was in a position to secure himself a seat at the most succesful team ever, or he could stay in a dismantling project and find himself without a competitive car by the end of 2006. What would most of us have done?

May 27th 2008 5:03PM You guys love to hate Alonso. He's not the most likeable driver out there, but he's been a lot more sincere at all times than most people in the F1 world ever where, most notably his ex-teammate (are there really teammates in F1?) Hamilton.
Hamilton was given undeserved advantages by his team in qualifying and race strategy, which obvoiusly pissed Alonso off. Only he still obeyed, instead of forcing the team like Hamilton did at Hungary.
So what if Alonso bitches and moans when he's not happy about something? Hamilton did the same a lot (Monaco 2007, for example), only he never had much to complain about, given the fact that he was the first rookie ever to be given the #1 driver status in a winning team. Alonso was exactly the same when he left Renault, and they still wanted him back. People and the press love to show him as the evil guy (if only he were German and had a moustache...), but it seems he's better liked by the people who really deal with him every day than you could expect. He's blunt, he doesn't try to be liked by everyone and say the nicest things all the time, but he's the kind of co-worker I'd much rather have, instead of a smiling backstabber.

Mar 14th 2008 6:01PM Ridiculous. Not even a millionaire rapper would buy this thing, even if it cost a tenth of the price.

Dec 30th 2007 5:19AM While I'm all against cruelty against animals, and understand the feelings of anyone trying to ease the life of these animals, I can't help but feel that this is a bit over the top.
Taking care of these animals -being among their needs vast protected spaces, loads of food, transport from wherever theyy were first- looks extremely expensive, and there is a lot of wildlife in need of preserving out there.
Grad students create Splinter, the wooden supercar {Autoblog}
Dec 18th 2007 10:15AM It is not as stupid as it may sound.
If you stop thinking "wood" and start thinking "vegetable fiber composite", you may begin to appreciate some advantages.
While I haven't read the piece (of course), it doesn't strike me as stupid to think of a wood composite with high stiffness to weight ratio.
You might also make jokes about carbon fibre monocoques being "coal lorries", or fiberglass being simply "glass", if you decide to focus on the primary sources of materials.
I don't know if it could work, but I would put the idea to test, and even if it didn't work, I'd give props to the guy who thought of it, and encourage him to keep thinking out of the box. That is the way of engineering.

Dec 17th 2007 10:43AM Modern Ferraris' design sucks. Only the "cheap" ones (F430 and 360) are nice. The Enzo screams "Look, I'm hi-tech!", and the 599 GTB and 612 Scaglietti are unforgivably bland. Those two could very well be the next Hyundai Coupé (Tiburon for you yanks).
The P4/5... boy, oh boy, that's entirely another story. As you have said, that is how the Enzo should have looked.

Dec 17th 2007 10:37AM Do you expect F1 teams to beat major electronics corporations at developing battery technology? After all the time and money those corporations are (and will be) spending on that issue? Not happening.
