VIDEO: European drivers vs. concrete pillar {Autoblog}

Oct 30th 2006 2:27PM I live in Manchester and know of the actual bollards in the video. The amount of signage leading up to these is so apparent you'd have to consciously know that you're driving in a restricted zone, to be there you'd have to be a complete idiot, as all those shown here indeed are, to be caught by these. I've seen a small van get stuck on them, but they were blatantly trying to beat the one-way system so it served them right. Unfortunately they had virtually no damage.

VIDEO: GT500 reviewed on Fifth Gear {Autoblog}

Oct 30th 2006 3:08AM re.17. SilverAero- yes I agree but that would require Americans to actually travel outside the country, something of a very rare feat compared to virtually every other Western country. You can't beat a great bit of blind ignorance from the majority of a population.

This review by 5th Gear is intended for British audiences, as is Top Gear which so many people seem to forget. Its baffling why Autoblog posts so much about UK car shows when it knows it has a UK slant on it and is inevitably going to offend every over-sensitive, car-loving American who's yeah, never traveled outside their own borders and cannot tolerate someone from another nation having a differing view to theirs. From the perspective from someone outside the U.S. why doesn't Autoblog report whats on their own national car shows, I mean you've got at least American Chopper & Overhaulin, two really relevant programmes on contemporary car culture!

The Ford Taurus SHO rocks, and Conan agrees {Autoblog}

Oct 29th 2006 2:42AM the SHO could stand grille to grille with a BMW M3- and in which particular fantasy world will that come true! Thankfully the M3, especially the original E30 M3, was designed for real driving with corners, crazy concept I know. But if you're someone who just appreciates going moderately quickly in a straight line then buy one of these gems, personally I'd take the M3

Saturn and Opel to be indistinguishable by 2014 {Autoblog}

Oct 7th 2006 4:27AM Does this mean that Euro buyers now start getting inferior products so they are more in tune with a broader taste to accomodate U.S. customers? At least no-one here really likes Opels/Vauxhalls apart from fleet managers because they're cheap.

It just seems that when cars from Europe are developed to suit the American market they suffer for it in the minds of Europeans. Take for example the fat ass of the Jaguar XK8 or the stupid column gearshift on the BMW 7 series, don't get me started on the obsession with cup-holders! It seems that when Americans like European cars, they probably like them for being what they are, European. When they get cannibalised in development they end up losing there focus, and its the European market that feels it. As long as its only the likes of Opel and Ford then I guess thats OK, we don't really like them that much here in Europe, they're sales have been dropping for years now.

Our Country, Our Truck: GM's Silverado marketing campaign {Autoblog}

Sep 26th 2006 3:09AM How is this "bashing GM?" Its so frsustrating, any comment that isn't seen as blindly following GM's continual lumbering mistakes is seen as a dig at America, George Bush and the struggle of the U.S.'s not-so-big 3. How can you have a rational discussion with such a narrow-minded attitude? Your level of sensitivity is laughable, I love the fact that you're happily endorsing vehicles that aren't competitive so that you're supporting your country. Does the smug false impression of your perception of patriotism compensate for driving agricultural vehicles when 99% of the time a car would be more appropriate. Yes I know some of them are used for work duty, and those customers should continue driving & purchasing pick-ups, but why do you honestly need them for daily driving? Such actions are obselete and the sooner buyers in the U.S. reaalise this, Ford, G.M & DaimlerChrysler will start to make profit again.

Ford Bold Moves - Episode 11: King of the Hill {Autoblog}

Sep 7th 2006 11:43PM "9. The Toyota Tundra and Nissan TightEnd are for homosexuals.

Posted at 5:30PM on Sep 7th 2006 by Eric Lee"

"11. #9: thanks for the laugh. I don't know if your statement is true, but it made me laugh because I have noticed that many guys who look like (latent) homosexuals seem to go towards Gayota. Nissan seems to attract geeks.
Real men drive F-Fords, GM, Chrysler

Posted at 7:43PM on Sep 7th 2006 by Patricia"

Really intelligent comments, bet you go home and fu*k your dogs, but hey, as long as they're bitches you're not queer.

Its reasons like this the rest of the world dispairs about the US.

BMW Alpina D3: Economical Excitement {Autoblog}

Sep 2nd 2006 1:03PM Autoblog, again this is old news. This has been out in the UK for quite a few months, probably much longer in mainland Europe. What is more significant about this model is that it actually undercuts the price of BMW's own Sport model of the 320D.

Mitsubishi Concept-X meets WRC {Autoblog}

Aug 3rd 2006 4:04AM Non of the previous Lancer EVO's have been intended to be beautiful, or have ever ben intended to appeal to a wide audience. They are designed to look like a WRC aesthetic which has a bias to a performance-led look, pretty styling just isn't relevant. Its not completely to my taste, its so overstyled it actually is starting to look kind of camp (like all pickups's look like they belong on the set for a Village People video), however it perfect for its target market.

Autoblog Q&A: James Glickenhaus, owner of the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina {Autoblog}

Aug 2nd 2006 6:40PM Thank god people are still able to commision one-off specials involving the likes of Ferrari and Pininfarina, and to do it on the current leading chassis gives so much kudos. If only more people had the audacity and insight (I'm not going to mention funds but thats kinda obvious!) to do so but I suppose that would reduce the effect of this. I've already seen two seperate Enzo's on the street at different times, driven round the city posing, its so refreshing knowing that something like this is going to be driven how Enzo Ferrari would have wished.

Saturn to receive next-gen Opel Vectra Wagon {Autoblog}

Jul 31st 2006 6:24PM Sorry to go against the enthusiasm felt for this range but here in Europe we think these things are dull, being only bought as company cars, virtually no-one buys one of these, new at least, and if they do its with at least 25-30% off list price. Basically they're terrible to drive, if you saw the recent Top Gear episode they pitched this with the 2.8 V6 turbo against the Mondeo ST220, whilst the Vectra was quicker in a straight line it just understeered & understeered, and this is the performance version! The Mondeo was considered vastly better and is perceived as quite an underrated car.

Personally I'll stick to BMW's with a real suspension design, buyers here already vote that way with the 3 series being the best selling vehicle in this class.
