Canon prepping a Digital Rebel XS / 1000D? {Engadget}

May 14th 2008 3:58AM Probably to be competing against the Nikon D40, which is sub-$500, compared to the D60 and D80 which sandwich the Rebel XSi in terms of price. Not to mention cheaper competition from Sony Alpha-200/300, Olympus E420, and Pentax K200. All of which are superb cameras.

May 14th 2008 3:54AM The D40 is limited to newer AF-S lenses. So lenses with older bayonet mount won't work with AF. But you can still use the lenses, metering, etc work fine, but you're limited to manual focus.

Also, when it comes to lenses for these budget dSLRs, generally speaking, you're not likely to buy the good lenses in either Nikon or Canon. Most cheapo lenses that cost below five hundred bucks are likely EFS or DX lenses that are mediocre in quality. Best advice is to get some good primes that are cheaper. The real value of the system doesn't really show itself until you start making investments in higher end lenses.

VIDEO: Diesel vs Hybrid, the heavyweights take it to the streets {Autoblog Green}

Apr 29th 2008 1:29PM Damn, only if diesel prices weren't so damn high these days, especially compared to regular unleaded. I was thinking about getting a TDI but ridiculous diesel prices have curbed my enthusiasm since it eats into the cost benefit of getting the diesel in the first place.

Proposed CAFE rules hurt Porsche, small powerful vehicles {Autoblog}

Apr 28th 2008 7:08PM BMW, Porsche and Mercedes have been paying CAFE fines for years. The largest Porsche paid was 2001 with a CAFE fine of $5 million. There has also been speculation that its control of VW could help Porsche meet CAFE numbers. regardless, its actually chump change for Porsche who has the highest profit margins in the industry.

Trouble at the top? Toyota vehicles sitting longer on dealer lots {Autoblog}

Apr 28th 2008 4:01PM Sales are down everywhere;especially in trucks and SUVs. Not surprisingly, hybrid sales are up this year again. Economy is doing poor and gas prices are high.

Why was Toyota singled out? Well, its probably because its Autoblog.

More details on the Lotus Eagle {Autoblog}

Apr 23rd 2008 6:54PM Probably be using the 2GR-FSE(IS350, GS350) instead of the 2GR-FE(Camry, Avalon). The FSE variant comes with direct injection and produces more power.

They are both great engines. The Toyota GR V6 engines have been on Ward's 10 best three years running (2006, 2007, 2008).

However, I was hoping Lotus would use the 2UR-GSE engine found in the Lexus IS-F. I'm sure Lotus could really extract power from Toyota-Yamaha engine like they did with the Toyota-Yamaha 2ZZ-GE engine in the Elise.

Formula One to introduce hybrid Kinetic Energy Recovery System in 2009 {Engadget}

Apr 23rd 2008 4:44PM >>Unlike hybrid systems found in regular cars, however, the so-called Kinetic Energy Recovery System (or KERS) doesn't store up energy in a battery, but instead captures kinetic energy during vehicle deceleration using a flywheel mechanism.

F1 2009 regulation doesn't require the use of flywheel only.

KERS allows for energy to be stored in either mechanical or electrical form. F1 Racing Magazine has a recent article on it, supposedly, F1 teams like Toyota, Honda, and Ferrari are going the electrical route. The batteries weight will essentially be replacing the weight ballast on the cars. So it should weight the same, however, several teams are calling for a increase in the minimum weight requirement.
