Nominees announced for 2009 European COTY {Autoblog}

Jun 25th 2008 4:57PM I love that the Renault Megane is on the list even though it hasn't even been spotted yet. Having said that, if the launch goes well that should be a favourite - the last model won it.

Of those cars, I reckon it will go to the Alfa Mi.To - Alfa and Fiat have a fantastic record in the Coty awards, although the Insignia, Megane, Scirocco and Kuga should be up there too.

Geneva '08 Preview: Lancia Delta more photos and details {Autoblog}

Feb 21st 2008 12:05PM The reason why Lancia failed in the first place was because they were positioned so closely to Alfa Romeo. Since Alfa fulfils the sporty brief now, Lancia is charged with luxury, hence why this isn't an obvious Intergrale predocessor.

It does look a bit like a Murano, but its similar to quite an old concept car and takes many cues from the Ypsilon, which was launched before the Murano. I quite like the look of it, but I'm most disappointed by the Bravo-lifted interior. It looks good, but Lancia will NEVER get a luxury reputation if they can't at least make their cars look different from Fiats/Alfas etc etc. Especially if they'll be more expensive.

McScapegoat: Ron Dennis blames internet media for losing F1 title {Autoblog}

Oct 22nd 2007 6:36PM The little blurb at the top is completely false. Firstly, Ron is blaming nasty rumours and speculation that has fed people's imaginations this year through the internet and he is entirely correct. I have never known an F1 title fight to be so bitter and nasty and I'm not talking about the drivers.... Reading forums can be really quite offensive to all concerned, which I think Ron is referring to. Remember, the team is more than Ron and the drivers - it is mechanics too who feel the barrage of people's feelings and they are entirely innocent and do fantastic job! The Spanish media has been atrocious this season with what they have put out - very very very partisan to the point it is just reckless journalism...

Secondly, how did McLaren's poor reliability lose them the title?? Hamilton's gearbox problem was the only time this year that McLaren have suffered problems, a major achievement given where they were a couple of years ago.

Thirdly, McLaren's 'poor performance'?? They and Ferrari were miiiiiles better than anyone else this year and the closeness of the title race is evident to that.

The rise of the internet and the expression of people's opinions is very evident this year and you'd have to be robotic to have not been affected in some way by it all.

Car puts together its favorite commercials {Autoblog}

Sep 19th 2007 7:28PM Ooh, I have never seen the Audi one before. Very good!

However, the Honda Accord ad is by far and away the finest ad for a car I have ever seen and possibly one of the best ever made. So clever and marvellously executed.

Frankfurt 2007: Jaguar XF in the flesh {Autoblog}

Sep 11th 2007 9:17AM I really want this car to do well and I love 85% of it. Sleek, sporty and classy.... up until the front-end where it just looks ungainly. The grille is fine, but it's the lights that bother me. Too upright and ruined by the bright orange indicators - could they not have been smoked?? Jaguar are so close to reviving their fortunes with this car - I just hope that minor error won't ruin it.

Frankfurt 2007: 2008 Saab Turbo X arrives dressed in black {Autoblog}

Sep 11th 2007 8:54AM Mean and sinister! Love it - my type of car ;)

VIDEO: Chrysler might want to reconsider that Chery deal {Autoblog}

Aug 12th 2007 10:02AM Crikey! Is that car made of rice paper?? It looks like their version of the old SEAT Toledo, but even that couldn't have done so badly when it was around more than 10 years ago! I predict (and hope there will be) a flurry of crash tests for all these Chinese models set to come to Europe/America on the back of this and Brilliance!

VIDEO: Boys will be Boys...especially in a McLaren {Autoblog}

Jul 24th 2007 4:32AM This advert did make me chuckle first time I watched it. My cynical mind makes me think its a PR stunt-ish, but who cares!

It's Dodge Nitro vs. dog in "shocking" new viral {Autoblog}

Jul 19th 2007 5:21AM Its most similar to a Mazda advert for the 3 (don't know which countries got it) - dog walks up to it, attempts to do its business and gets sprayed by the headlight washer. Not as extreme but exactly the same concept.

Benvenuto! Fiat 500 finally here {Autoblog}

Jul 6th 2007 5:08AM It has an engine at the front for packaging reasons - pretty sensible really. No point in being nostalgic because while a rear mounted engine would get headlines initially, a little way down the line it'd just be annoying, expensive and impractical. Either way, reading the first reviews of the 500, they have been very very positive - each one has been five out of five.

They say it looks great, drives well, has nippy engines and is very easy to love! As for reliability, its based on the Panda, which has been getting top ten finishes in some satisfaction surveys - so things are looking good for Fiat to me. I'm waiting for the Abarth...
