Dec 18th 2009 2:37PM @Chris Ziegler: A camera is only as good as its lens. You can have a 30MP camera shooting through a piece of plastic, and it's going to look like crap.

Consumer Reports: Over 40 percent of 'sudden acceleration' claims involve Toyota {Autoblog}
Dec 8th 2009 1:14PM This was covered when the off-duty officer and family were killed in that rental car...
1. Not all cars let you shift into Neutral (It might damage the engine! Oh noes!)
2. In cars with keyless ignitions, you need to HOLD DOWN the start/stop button for a matter of seconds. This is likely something not everyone knows.
Personally, this whole drive-by-wire thing is a load of crock. Give me my keyed ignition and my throttle cable, please.

Dec 8th 2009 1:11PM @jrejre: I'm pretty sure this was exactly the problem when the article a couple years ago about Toyota Priuses accelerating came out... The dealers couldn't find anything wrong with it, so there *was* no problem. It was all in peoples' heads. Suuure.
24 Hours of LeMons announces 2009 Season Champions {Autoblog}
Dec 6th 2009 12:01AM Any car that's being sold for $500 (barring financial troubles on the seller's behalf) has been abused, misused, probably has sludge in the engine and likely hasn't seen a tuneup in 5 years.
A 20-year-old car (especially in the south) is going to have problems with everything rubber (hoses, belts, weatherstripping, tires) degrading. In the salt belt, it's going to be rust problems, which lead to broken ground cables (and all the fun problems that come along with that), along with the usual missing rocker panels and, in extreme cases, floorboards.
Just sayin'.

Nov 29th 2009 8:38PM So now, instead of buying a $15,000 car and doing $2,000 of modifications to it, with the same money, you can buy a $2,000 car and do $15,000 of mods? Hmm...
