Flint see bluff but not strike in Delphi/GM/UAW poker game {Autoblog}

May 15th 2006 11:01PM From Mr. Flint's Article:
The United Auto Workers union really doesn't want a Delphi strike that would cripple General Motors. The union's priority is to save those 100,000 GM jobs. The high-paying Delphi jobs are doomed whatever happens, and the union knows it.

No I am afraid not. The UAW leadership may know it, but the members who vote them in and out of office certainly do NOT know it. They imagine that these high paying jobs can be saved from worldwide market forces forever simply if GM wills it.

I have said it before, I'll say it again, a strike is coming.

BREAKING NEWS: UAW wants its members to authorize a strike at Delphi if court cancels contracts {Autoblog}

May 4th 2006 9:04AM Did anyone read this:
"Also in March, Delphi proposed a 35% cut in hourly wages in exchange for a $50,000 incentive to each union member -- an offer the UAW rejected." from the Freep

If it is true, the Union passed up probably the best deal they are likely to get.

Delphi says court can void contracts {Autoblog}

May 3rd 2006 9:14AM The train wreck continues. A strike is coming. Mark your calendars.

All sides have decided that they would prefer a strike over a settlement on the terms offered.

Delphi Management would rather go out in a blaze of glory than die the death of a 1000 cuts. They really and truly believe that if they don't get an all in wage somewhere in the low $20's they have no chance of long term survival. There are many home runs to hit after that, but they have to hit that ball out of the park first. Believe me, I know what I am talking about on this one.

As to the UAW, would YOU face re-election after telling your members the cold hard truth? In the cities that Delphi has plants, the alternative to working at Delphi is a $10-$15 per hout wage (surprise: an all in wage of below what Delphi is offerring). But, the members don't want to face this. They perfer to think that somehow they can save their current jobs by railing against the obviously generous salary Miller & the Boys are getting. It ain't going to happen.

And GM? please. They've done all they are going to do.

A strike is coming.

Think it can't happen?

Don't bet your pension on it...

Brace for impact: Tower Automotive asks judge to pull plug on union contract {Autoblog}

Feb 28th 2006 10:45PM If the Tower employees and their Management would rather have a strike than split the difference over $2-3 per hour (perhaps $6-9 "all in" wage reductions by the time you add in the benefit cuts), how does ANYONE think that Delphi employees and Mr. Steve will be able to avoid a strike when there is an all in wage cut of $40-50 per hour at stake???

While it has taken Mr. Bryant too long to blog about this, at least he filed it in the right catagory: TRENDS.
