Frankfurt 2007: Will the real Subaru Justy please stand up? {Autoblog}

Sep 12th 2007 6:05PM Why do 1.0 liter car engines make 68 HP when 600 CC motorcycle engines now make over 100? Sure, the bike engine is less restricted and more peaky, but surely with more than an additional 50% displacement something closer to 100 with reasonable torque is attainable.

Sep 7th 2007 1:51PM Doesn't work for me either. I have the ringtones tab but it doesn't work yet.

BBC America to air full Top Gear episodes for seaon 8 {Autoblog}

Aug 9th 2007 5:19PM The U.K. gets our programming (also mostly a load of trash, but even less inspired, perhaps) a year late. I don't know why it is, but that seems to be standard for exported broadcast programming.

BBC America to air full Top Gear episodes for seaon 8 {Autoblog}

Aug 9th 2007 5:17PM They may or may not play the full length. They do have commercials but they don't always follow the typical 30 minute blocks so it may just be an hour and twenty minutes instead of an hour.

Winner of buried Belvedere determined, passed away in '79 {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2007 2:54PM This story just keeps getting more and more depressing...

Two Buck Chuck turns five {Slashfood}

May 30th 2007 6:10PM Why do people say "this wine is bad (I have had it and it is terrible) but it's cheap" as if cheapness absolves it of any and all sins? If you drink crummy wine because it's cheap, is the motivation just to get drunk (since you're not deriving pleasure from the flavor)? If that's the case, you can get drunk even cheaper with other products like Mad Dog 20/20.

Enzo Crash Watch: Another one bites it {Autoblog}

May 24th 2007 5:21PM This guy has been on 5th Gear a couple of times. The first was when he was buying a Michael Schumacher F-1 car from Ferrari and 5th Gear tagged along to document the experience and the second when he tapped a wall in his Maserati MC 12 on a snowy race track.

Are electronics making cars obsolete faster? {Autoblog}

May 17th 2007 4:09PM What needs to happen is "Blackbox virtualization" and some some standardization. You can never have a Blackbox that works for all cars, as electronics get more and more powerful you could create a device which emulates the blackbox. In this way you could upload the image of the last Mk. VII blackbox software to a website, download it, install it on a device, and then install it in your car.

This would provide almost unlimited future compatibility along with the ability to archive, upgrade and improve the software. The biggest issue is the wire outputs, which would need some level of standardization for this scenario to work.

Are cars getting cheaper or are we getting paid more? {Autoblog}

May 10th 2007 7:14PM Inflation adjusted your $7,500 car in 1991 would cost $11,000 in 2006 (see http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ to perform the calculations). That is about $5,400 less than you can get a new 3 for (This site http://www.carreview.com/cat/automobiles/midsize-compact/mazda/PRD_292493_1531crx.aspx has the price at $16,400) but the new 3 is more powerful, faster, roomier, safer and more luxurious. We just expect much more from our cars, even the "cheap" ones than we ever have. Overall that's a good thing, I think.

BMW M1 reborn as the new tii! {Autoblog}

May 3rd 2007 12:42PM Yeah, they shouldn't mess with the M1 name. What they can do, though, is only make it in the two door version and call it the "M2".
