May 9th 2008 6:52PM Funny, where are all the semi-retarded GM posts that raised the BS flag for the Nissan GT-R's ring lap time, giving a range of lame excuses that included:

- they timed it wrong
- they used R-compound tires
- they used stock tires from Japan but aren't stock tires from US (wow)
- ring times aren't indicative of actual performance (lol)

And a rollbar does impact performance. Greater chassis rigidity means less body flex, which means the suspension can do its work without body flex getting in the way. Sure it only shaves tenths off laps per corner, but tenths on a 8-minute track like the ring can translate to a good second or two.

The time is a great feat by GM regardless, but a giant rollbar through the cabin of the car isn't production spec. Or is that not necessarily a pic of the car that had that time?

May 7th 2008 1:57PM That's a simplistic assessment--simply dropping HP doesn't yield better MPG. You can't compare cars from 1977 because back then they didn't have power everything, didn't have airbags adorning every nook, reinforced steel for better crash ratings. All those amentities equals more weight. Cars today are also much heavier. If you want to compare Accords:

1976 Accord weight 2000 lbs.
2008 Accord weighs 3600 lbs.

Dropping weight means dropping amenities or safety features, which consumers don't seem willing to do.

May 6th 2008 1:44PM "Give way" I'm assuming is their way of saying "Yield." It's missing an "a" but it's saying "Give away art work."

I love the "touching wire causes instant death" and $200 fine right below it hahahah. People getting mad at this proves some souls just don't have a sense of humor.

May 5th 2008 4:38PM You're reading into way more than what I said. Where did I say that after 3-4 years that he can drive it like a Nuburgring time-attack trial? Heck I bet even the dad can't handle a 425 hp car like that. I meant just touch the thing for a neighborhood drive, not taking corners, maybe flooring it only on a deserted open road.

May 5th 2008 2:02PM That driver may be 16, but it's obvious half the posters in here are in their teens too. No dad in their right mind would hand their keys of that car to a kid. I don't care if he gets straight A's, is magna cum laude from Harvard, the kid ought to stick to his beater Corolla. Then after he's proven to be responsible in driving (after say 3-4 years), then he can ride it--with dad riding shotgun.

May 5th 2008 4:00AM Just because cooling is aft doesn't mean it's mid-engine. Cars have had a radiator to the rear for weight distribution sake, so it's not unheard of. It's resemblance to the R8 is what hints at being a render.

GT-R drops 'Ring time down to 7:29 {Autoblog}

May 1st 2008 11:46AM Dang autoblog can't put my reply in the right place--third try.

I misunderstood you, and I apologize for my accusation. I've just seen so many horrible posts on the GT-R for so long and was getting fed up.
